While the classes can be challenging, I've found them here to be a mixed bag as far as difficulty level. I will say a huge focus at p.volve is technique/form, which I really appreciate. Instructors typically won't hesitate to form correct or assist if you need. Classes involve some unusual equipment including a mat, which takes some getting used to, but I know for some people, this method of exercise works really well for them and I can see that. This is a nice facility (although they have no showers) but they get an F in terms of newbies to the class. I was told to arrive 15 minutes early so the trainer could introduce herself and I assumed walk me through the equipment, ask if I have any injuries or issues, and make sure I understand how to use the equipment. none of this happened. I walked in with everybody else - I might as well have been doing it for the 50th time for all she knew. it's very hard to see or hear the instructor bc it's so dark, loud and crowded in there. The equipment is not self-explanatory. She never checked my form once and as a result, I'm sitting here with a very painful wrist, inner left knee and ankle. Hopefully it's just tendinitis or irritated ligaments, but who knows? they make you sign a liability waiver (I see why, now). All of this could've been avoided if I had just gotten a little attention in the class and been shown some modifications for some of the moves. they really need an all beginners class or reserve spots upfront for beginners. at one point I had two sliders under 1 foot which probably contributed to my injury, but I couldn't tell in the dark whether it was one or two. also the weights you lift are soft wrist and ankle weights, and it was very hard to get a good grip on them. They really should have 3lb dumbbells as well. read more

One of my favorite classes in the city! I tried a lot of different workouts but this one was overall the best. The class itself is low intensity but made you break the sweat. I love that everything is set up for you before class and they take care of everything after class so you don't have to clean up after. The instructors are super nice and attentive. The studio itself is absolutely beautiful, everything was so clean and well set up. Would definitely take a class here again! read more

I feel like one of my many toxic traits is thinking I'm in shape and can handle any workout but then I'm sweating in the first 5 minutes into the WARM UP. And Pvolve definitely had me sweating in the warm-up. The workout: The class I took was Sculpt & Burn. It was low-impact, had great music, and the equipment we used was weights and resistance bands. The coach was super nice and knowledgeable and even at the start of the class, offered to help set me up. The class was a good size where I didn't feel I was just another number and the coach was able to correct forms and give pointers throughout the workout. I will say, the class is pretty fast-paced and it will work muscles you never knew you had. Service / Amenities: - As soon as I walked in to check in, the front desk crew was super nice and showed me around. I really liked how attentive and friendly they were! And even at the end of the class, they gave a goodie bag. - The space is really clean, the lockers are a great size, and the best part, is they have a whole shared space with dry shampoo, deodorant, a blow dryer, and some face products read more

My new favorite workout! The teachers are fantastic. The front desk staff is really nice and very organized and I always feel amazing after class. Now that I've said all this it's going to be even harder to book a spot lol. I've taken classes in NYC, Santa Monica and West Hollywood, and they've all been equally great. read more

I really like the classes here - for someone who is not incredibly fit or active, the classes are a good balance of accessible and challenging. The moves are interesting and inventive and keep me engaged, yet the class is not so hard that I get discouraged. I definitely feel sore afterwards though. The locker room is nice but can get a bit crowded if both your class and the preceding/following class are full. There are four bathrooms but no showers. I would like a bit more diversity in the clientele though. read more

TL;DR: the studio itself is beautiful but I hate the class. It's an outrageously nice spot in soho with complimentary sparkling waters, lockers, nice beauty products, etc. no sbowers. The staff is great and helpful. Checkin process is seamless and there's a lot of area to hang out before the studio. Now onto the bad. I find that the workout is just not good. It's just hard enough that I don't feel the same "zen" that I get from yoga or Pilates, but not hard enough where I feel like I'm getting an actual workout. I also think it's a little confusing for a first timer- it wasn't completely clear to me how to interpret the instructor's directions with the numbered mat. I feel like this could be rectified very easily with 2-3 minutes of directions before class. Same thing with the equipment - they use basically resistance bands with Velcro ankle straps that were a little confusing during my first class. My main complaint is that all of the equipment is set up pre-class and the last class I took, there was a huge open space in the middle of the room but the mats were really close to each other and the woman next to me (no fault of hers) kicked me a couple times before I got fed up and moved my mat a foot further into the empty space. It just seemed weird that they wouldn't have thought of that before class? Anyway, I would maybe try one more just because the studio is SO nice, but of the workouts I've tried in New York it's in my bottom three. read more

Modern and chic- this place is fabulous. Music wasn't too loud, it was uplifting and energetic. I took a Sculpt & Progressive Weight Training class with Melanie. She is a great instructor, she comes around to every one in the room and provide pointers and corrects our form. Her voice is amplified with the headset she has on, it's not too loud nor not too quiet. Everyone is totally focused on themselves, so if you have anxiety like me- it's not too worrisome! Bathrooms are clean, no need to bring locks as it's already pre-installed. I suggest to come in already dressed and to pack light. The lockers are really small! I came here with classpass credits. The instructor was really patient with the class and focused on up doing the techniques correctly so we could really feel the workout! I am really happy I came here and considering buying their new comers package of buy one class and get the second class free. I took my first class with Evan at P.volve and it was awesome! She led a great class with detailed instructions to achieve the most from each exercise. The workout was easy to follow but still challenging and kept my interest. Evan's music selection was on point, her music and her words help motivate me through the class! It's good if you're athletic. The fuzzy equipment, like a ball fixed to your thighs, is not my cup of tea. But instructors are nice and I can see how this is a new fun way to work out. I was not sure about the unusual knee positions though. read more
