As a New Yorker, I am used to yoga studios that operate like big, impersonal businesses and pack students into tight spaces, but SPY showed me how yoga is really supposed to be done! The studio is run by two friendly sisters, who take a genuine interest in their students' yoga practices and lives. They have created a warm community and a welcoming yoga practice. Fun music plays during class and the instructor demonstrates how to do all of the poses and helps students on an individual level. It is clear that the instructor has been practicing yoga and teaching it for years! She really makes her students feel comfortable and at home, especially for me as a newcomer to this studio. The yoga studio itself is a private open space with high ceilings, nice hard wood floors, dim lighting, and is very clean. The owners seem to be very receptive to feedback and special requests. Based on popular demand, they offer cooking classes, summer retreats, etc. I definitely plan to return to the studio and partake in other fun activities these ladies have to offer! I have taken a barre class, Pilates, and barrelattes, which is a mix of the two. I recently took their barre crawl class two days ago. I am a member of ClassPass, so I paid $25 for the class. I arrived 10 minutes early. As soon as you walk in, they take your name and ask what size t-shirt you want. The t-shirt was so cute. It said "Meet Me at the barre," and it was a gray tank top with white lettering. I thought it would look very cute, but I didn't put it on because I like to wash everything before wearing it. Almost everyone else put on their t-shirts right away, except for about three other women. They had a choice of small, medium, or large. The first part of the evening was the barre class. Everyone got their shirts and went in for class. A woman with blonde hair helped me. She could be one of the owners or instructors, I'm not sure, but she was extremely helpful. She gave me a resistance band and a ball and helped me get the correct form. I really appreciated that because she noticed I was doing one exercise incorrectly, and she explained that it was why my back was hurting. The class was challenging. I would rate it about an eight out of ten, but I liked it a lot and definitely plan to come back. Everyone in the class was friendly. I don't usually talk to people in exercise classes because I'm still trying to build a regular habit, so I didn't know everyone, but the atmosphere was very welcoming. Part of the evening included little sample cups of smoothies. There were three different types and some snacks, which were nice. After class, everyone went over to the bar in the same shopping center, but I went home. Overall, I loved it. I've been to this studio a couple of times, and every time I enjoy the class. The instructors are very kind, answer any questions, and help you work on your form. I definitely recommend this studio. I almost forgot: After the workout, I saw many women wiping off their workout ball with hydrogen peroxide spray. So, this was a courteous and healthy gesture to do for the next guests. I may have overlooked the BYOM but they provided one- best bring your own!if you go. The studio is small though and the class was very full (about 30-40 people), with minimal space between mats. In one of my Lucille Ball moments I actually stepped on my neighbors mat. The instructor was clear, and really nice but not so supportive as in helping you through the poses like some other yoga classes I've been to. The class ended with an intention and a cold towel, which was a nice touch. I bought the intro special and plan to try another class to see if the crowded space is something I can overlook compared to other studios nearby.
