This was part 2 of the surf and turf package, and it did not disappoint! This is yet another must do excursion while visiting the island! As mentioned in my other review about their sister property providing the surf ride, these horses are well cared for and are living high on the hog in Hawaii. This family owned business, which is managed by Emily at both properties, definitely takes pride in ownership with their money making herd and it shows with well maintained tack and stock; properly groomed, tacked, and shod horses; clean facilities and grounds; experienced trail guides; etc... This excursion is geared towards beginner riders for the safety of the rider and their stock, but intermediate and advanced riders can stay legged up themselves while on vacation without having to worry about doing the work that goes along with riding! #iykyk But if you're like me, you just want to live life between the ears, so you'll find a way to ride every chance you get! Helmets are non negotiable for insurance reasons, even for seasoned and experienced riders; but, it wasn't a deal breaker for me because it's their house, their rules. Be sure to ask about the surf and turf package if you're like me and one ride isn't enough! The tutorial at the beginning is informative and is explicit, direct instruction for the beginner, but don't be afraid to ask questions or for any help because everyone wants a fun, safe ride, and they're there to do just that! so freakin cutie pie the guides: amazing and fantastic and oh so kind! we were a chunk of time late because of traffic and we were lucky enough that maddie, our guide, took the time to wait!! made the trip over doable and much less stressful. She took photos for our group and got us settled so well. #lovedit the horses: sweet, VERYYY well taken care of, and full of personality. we got to feed them after the ride and they were very happy to get some snacks! very pleasant overall and got some fun pics the trail: beautiful. it's a nicely maintained road that overlooks plenty of water and foliage, and the sunset looks great. What an amazing experience with Palehua trail rides. My husband and I are celebrating our honeymoon and booked a private tour and it was absolutely beautiful! It was a little bit pricey for us newlyweds but we got to go up to the top of the mountains and overlook God's creation. Just breathtaking. And with the constant weather shifts to take care of the trail and the horses care the price makes sense! We had such a lovely time with Madison (our guide) and our beautiful horses- Hawaiian and Sky! They were absolutely great and got to experience some of their character on the trip as well! This was my first riding a horse and it was an ineffable and unforgettable experience! I took my mom as a gift as she loves horses and it couldn't have gone better! From the moment you drive through the gate, the mood is set! It's a short drive through a small road where you'll see lots of cows along the fences along with gorgeous views! Once all the signs were easy to follow and once there, the staff is so warm and welcoming! Ciara, Rachel and Madison are the ladies who assisted us and their service was above and beyond! The horses were very well trianed and friendly. My horse was Shaggy and my mom got Hawaiian. It was my first time and they explained everything so well I felt like a natural when mounting and controlling Shaggy. The walk was very peaceful and awe-inspiring. We went for the private ride and got to walk up to the ridge for TWO truly unbelievable views! During the ride, Madison offered to take photos of us which helped me a lot since I wanted to focus on the experience in front of me. After the ride we were allowed to feed and pet the horses for a job well done! Overall, 10/10 would most definitely recommend! Now I want my own horse and after just one ride I'm hooked! read more

We loved our time with Pālehua Trail Rides! My daughters (16 and 10), cousin (19), and I did the Sunshine Group Ride with Angelique and Mo. The guides were great from the time we walked up to the check-in tent--welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and clearly loved the horses :) We had a safety briefing, opportunity to take photos, and got to give the horses a snack at the end! The trail felt very safe and the guides were very engaging throughout the whole ride. Before we'd go downhill, they'd remind us to lean back, and lean forward when we're going uphill. They pointed out the cows along the way, gave us some history of the area, and always made sure we were comfortable :) they also gave us saddle bags and rain jackets! The horses are very well-trained and they already know what to do, so you can enjoy the beautiful views. They're calm, gentle, and so smart! Mahalo, Mo, Angelique, and the rest of the PTR team! I rarely ever leave bad reviews, but I feel this one is necessary. I booked a 90-minute horseback tour for two and paid around $350, expecting a beautiful and memorable experience based on the description. Unfortunately, it was far from what was promised. The ride started late and then felt rushed from the moment it began. It only lasted about 30-35 minutes nowhere close to the 90 minutes advertised. The staff did not greet us warmly or make us feel welcome at all, which was surprising because the rest of our time in Hawaii has been filled with kindness and aloha everywhere else. On top of that, the trail was not scenic like the photos suggested. It was mostly branches and burned trees nothing like what we expected or what was shown in the advertising. The place simply did not match the description. For the price and what was promised, this was extremely disappointing, and I do not recommend this tour. I truly hope they improve their customer service, honesty in advertising, and the overall quality of the experience. read more

My husband and I had such a wonderful time on the trails today with horses Mous and Pia. Our guide Alyssa made us feel at home. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the land and animals. The horses were fun and each had their own special personalities. Pia had one blue eye and one brown. She's the queen of Palehua and has a heart on her left hip - so cute! The trail was beautiful with views of the ocean. We were lucky to see some long horns. The ride lasted about an hour. There's a scenic stop where our guide captured some cute photos for us. There were five of us at 1p. I appreciated how the guides broke us up into our two separate groups, so it felt like we were on a private ride. Other horse rides I've been on here in Oahu had my group riding with a big group of strangers, which is fine. However, I liked how Palehua split us up. Purchased the private sunset trail ride for 2, and we were very pleased with the entire experience. Purchase was easy and instructions on how to get to the location was clear. Once at the check-in, the ladies running the show were friendly and communicative about what to expect. The trail ride itself was beautiful, particularly being able to see the sun set down the west coast of Oahu. We were able to take some amazing pictures on the cliffside. We mostly stay Leeward side, so finding this gem of a stable less than 30 minutes away from hotel is BONUS - don't hafta drive an hour up to Northshore. Nice mountain ride w/ a superb guide, Jillian or Jill from Chicago. I had Manny, great demeanor & response to reins, but is totally on "Hawaiian Time." It's all good cos ride out to Sunset turnaround is gorgeous and relaxing. I liked the safety demo, the steps to load onto horses, and the fun of getting to feed your horse alfalfa pellets @ the conclusion of the ride. Good time... My family rode Lana and Aloha (mother and daughter). Lana is very protective of her little girl! Better mom than some humans! They give ya great directions on how to get to stables, so make sure you read the email to the bottom. Next time I will try the beach ride on Northshore, same owners, and maybe catch a Polo Match - Jill said it's fun to watch and I'm a believer. read more

Yhe employees were all friendly and professional, and the horses were all great, but there's an access code needed to open the secured gate 3 miles from the trail which nobody answered. We only got past the gate because there happened to be a man pulled up behind us and had a clicker to open the gate. From there the instructions were all clear driving to the trail which was helpful on the curvy road. The reason for the 2 stars is because it was literally the boringist ride ever. It was supposed to be 1 1/2 ride, but 40 minutes was standing around watching the employees get the horses ready with their saddles and such. The horses took us up a 15-20 minute trail, we stopped and pictures were taken of us on the horses by the staff, and then we turned around and went back exactly the same way. Not worth the money or distance from Waikiki which is where we were staying read more

I love that the location of this place is up in Kapolei. It's a beautiful ride, but a little boring since it's an in and out on the exact same trail. 0 stars if possible. Do NOT go here. The trails are poorly maintained (rocks and bushes), and many of the horses need medical attention. During my ride, someone was thrown off due to unsafe trail condition that could have easily been avoided with proper upkeep. When we tried to leave, there were issues with the gate system. Someone had to climb it to reach the call box, and three cars were stuck waiting to be let out. I contacted the female manager to express my concerns and request a refund. Not only did she refuse, but she repeatedly gaslit me, dismissing everything I shared and tried to make me question what I experienced. I even asked for a partial refund and was still denied. She had a rehearsed response for everything and showed zero accountability or care. At this point, I was fed up and raised my voice and tone (which she will likely try and use against me) Someone from their team will likely try to downplay this review, turn the situation back to me (the rider), or invalidate my experience. But I'm speaking up to warn others. Spend your money somewhere that values safety. For riders and animals. But also treats people with respect. $170 wasted. read more

Great experience! Brandon, our guide was awesome. Loved our horses who had very distinct personalities and are well cared for. Wonderful views, really chill and relaxed ride. Will definitely do again. I should have carefully read the check-in instructions beforehand as I factored in only 30 minutes drive time from Ko Olina, but didn't see that it's another 15 minutes from the gate to the stables. So we arrived 15 minutes prior to our ride time, which was too close for my comfort as we had to go through safety instructions and would have liked more time to get comfortable on our horses. Also the gate code is a bit finicky, didn't work for us, but got lucky with a car leaving so that's how we finally got in. read more

This is a MUST TO-DO when you come to Oahu. Literally was the best experience for my family. We did the sunset ride, our guides were Dina and Jenny and we had the BEST time. The trail they took us on was beautiful and had views of the ocean, hills, and nature. It is seriously unforgettable- I want to do it everyday. 200/10 experience. Do this when you come! When you arrive, they assign you the horses, they do a quick teaching on how to handle the horse (which is so easy), then you all hop on and they guide you through the trail! Sierra helped check us in and made sure everyone was comfortable, Matt and Kirsten were our guides and really helped out some of the less experienced riders on the trail feel confident. Kirsten and I chatted about wildlife and our shared horse riding experience, and it was so reassuring to see how much she cares for the horses. The views were incredible, and my horse Pia was not only beautiful but also responsive and easygoing.
