So I decided to give this studio a shot being so close to me and not having to drive to LA more than I was already doing for other classes and auditions. What I found was a very friendly and knowledgeable staff with everything you could ask for in an acting school. Although still relatively new to acting, in my short 18 months I've landed a highly reputable talent agent, was the principal role in 2 national commercials, and was cast as a supporting role in an upcoming feature film by a major studio. I'm currently going on network auditions 2-3 times a month and have built a rather impressive resume thus far. All of this is because of the core basics I have learned at ASOOC. Without my acting technique, I would not be where I'm at today with so much more to learn and show. Their 7 Pillars of Acting technique has grounded my performance in every way possible allowing me to be in the moment under any circumstance presented to me. I originally purchased balcony tickets for myself, my mom, and my sister. My mom is elderly and has difficulty going up and down stairs. When we arrived, a very kind staff member noticed our situation and directed me to Guest Services to see if they could help. They immediately worked with us and moved us to seats that my mom could access without having to climb the stairs. Once we got to those seats, we realized we had another issue. My sister, who has special needs, has wider hips and unfortunately could not comfortably fit in the seat. Instead of making us feel embarrassed or like we were causing a problem, the staff were incredibly understanding, respectful, and attentive. They worked to find another solution and ultimately moved us down to the orchestra area where there were larger seats that worked for my sister. What meant the most to me was how much they genuinely seemed to care that all three of us were comfortable and able to enjoy the show. They didn't just tell us there was nothing they could do--they kept helping until they found something that worked for our family. I wish I had gotten the names of everyone who helped us because they absolutely deserve recognition. Taking care of my elderly mother and my special-needs sister with such kindness and dignity meant more to me than they probably realize. It can be hard to come across truly exceptional customer service, and Segerstrom Center for the Arts went above and beyond for us. I am so grateful. And Beauty and the Beast was absolutely wonderful! I am docking points for my negative experience here. First of all, I was in orchestra row B and I asked where I would need to enter (go up the ramp or enter on ground level). I was directed to go up the ramp, which had 3x the line as the ground level, only to eventually find that ground level was closer and had a much shorter line. I had a handheld camera smaller than the size of my iPhone. The security attendant didn't know whether that was permitted. He asked someone else, who also seemed unsure/hesitated/stuttered at first, then he insisted that it was prohibited. I would understand if it's truly prohibited, but my issues with this: 1. It seemed like he was just making up rules 2. Their website says no PROFESSIONAL recording devices, but personal device recording is okay in the lobby (obviously wouldn't do it during the show) 3. I had to go all the way back to my car to put it in there. I read another review that the workers/attendants are rude; for me, this includes security.

We were recommended by someone we know that went through their summer camps and spoke very highly of AAFK. I was definitely nervous in the beginning because we didn't know what to expect and we're also protective as well (as many are too). All of my questions were answered when I texted them and as we got closer to the start date, a detailed and waiver were also sent out outlining all of the information. Signed up for Wicked Part 2 and K-Pop Demon Hunters. I can't express enough on what a positive experience it was. We were in awe what the students were able to do in less than a week! Incredible!!!! The lighting, the sound, the stage, the props, and costumes brought everything life! How exciting it was for students to see the inner workings of theater and all of the magic and hard work behind the scene. To top it off, it took place at an actual theater, which made it official and exciting. Mr. David, his assistants, and the theater staff were all wonderful. Mr. David is charismatic, fun, silly, and knowledgeable, yet can also be serious with the students when needed as well. We loved how he added life lessons and teachings where he could in a way that came across as a casual conversation. It really stuck with my student; we appreciate it. Love how he can switch to a different voice when interacting with the students and adults. He knows how to communicate effectively, yet also encouraging and motivates the students as well. Yes, if you go to the Newport Beach location, there is a tree and rolling hill in the front. As much as it's the staff's responsibility to keep your students safe, it's also your responsibility as parents to talk and explain to your children what you expect of them and decorum when you are not there. The same goes for what parts they get in the show. Before attending, we had a conversation about not getting certain roles we may want and how to process and deal with that. It doesn't take away from the experience if you prepare your students ahead of time. Skills my student learned after two weeks: Following through and not giving up even when things get challenging, believing in yourself, be and do your best no matter what, being a team player--by helping others, taking ownership and responsibility for the role you get, and understand that things can happen on and off stage--dust yourselves off, but the show must go on!!! Most importantly, TO HAVE FUN! Will definitely back!!!! We hope they will offer Hamilton and Wicked Part 1 later on in the summer next year!
