I've seen 3 concerts at their concert hall and this was my first time watching a musical at their theater. The Arts Center looks incredibly modern and is well taken care of so it continues to look new and sleek! TIPS: 1. Bathroom - Make sure you're seated on stage left/audience right, because the bathrooms for some god forsaken reason are located there. If you're on stage right/audience left, you will be caught in the most awful line and definitely not be out before intermission. 2. Parking - There are two parking structures. The structure connected to the theater is WAY more crowded when there is a musical. Taking a short walk and using the further parking lot means less traffic getting out. $15 flat rate. 3. Banned items - You CANNOT bring in metal water bottles. They will be tagged and returned at the end of the show by security. They do allow plastic water bottles. read more

What a gorgeous theatre, and in the case of our visit, a spectacular performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We visited last month and wow, I would love to see more here. I've been a longtime Pantages attendee and while I love the history, it isn't a comfortable theatre to sit in, nor easy to travel to. Segerstrom has a large parking garage on site, comfy chairs with space, and the facilities to handle large performances. We even could place advance orders for drinks for intermission, which allowed us to take the time to snap photos at the varying Harry Potter themed areas and hit up the merchandise booth. The performance itself was incredible, the production value was beyond what I've seen in many older theatres, so consider me a fan of something new. You do have to be prepared for a very interesting bathroom line experience, everyone is shuffled into a big line that isn't super clear, but it goes quick. read more

I came here to see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" while it was playing at Segerstrom for a couple of weeks. I wasn't too familiar with the story, even though I love Harry Potter. The actors were incredible and definitely recommend the show to anyone who's familiar with the storyline of HP. The venue itself was stunning. The design and architecture outside and in the theater itself was beautiful and unlike anything I had visited. The staff was all super helpful and no area felt overly crowded. We went to a spectacular performance of Phantom of the Opera at the Segerstrom Center tonight. Fantastic operetta voices and a hauntingly musical score that brought such varied emotions and we couldn't help to silently humming and strumming to the oh so familiar tunes. The stage was far away as we set in the upper balcony with access through door 113. Yet, the sound of the orchestra and the lyrical songs presented by trained vocal chords was a super experience... once in a while you hear an imbalance of stereophonic placement of pick up microphones... but the orchestra played a stellar line of bold music. The "Hall" was an impressive architectural feat, but I can only find one concern, elevators are great, but the floor levels are confusing.. we rode the elevator up and down 3 times before we got to the right floor to cross the "bridge" to the parking structure. Yes, here Ushers can steer you the wrong way. But hey, it was overall a great night out with the family and we took lots of fun pictures. We made sure to order for intermission and the restrooms are spic and span clean. The kids had an experience that they won't soon forget... I am a happy grandfather and won't hesitate if another family outing gets planned for a future performance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. read more

If you're a Harry Potter fan put this one on your bookmarks. Harry Potter and the cursed child was one of the best productions we've seen at Segerstrom. Well thought out story line of complex twists and turns, pyrotechnics and great sound quality. The stage production is magnificent! Some fun and magical moments. Great if you're familiar with the books or movies but may be a bit hard to understand the terminology if you're new to the wizard world. Muggles may have a hard time following but can appreciate the quality of stage performance and production. Intermission is quick before the start of the second half. Concessions are on each floor. Bottled drinks and snack items available for purchase. We were at orchestra terrace which has an outdoor balcony space beside the theater entrance. Staff are very helpful and friendly. read more

This center is spell-tacular. No food service but the concession stand sells snacks, drinks ,and coffee. $$. You can order early at the counter for snacks before the show begins and pickup during intermission, no apps. The ambience is a play with a movie magic twist. Better than your normal abracadabra. Nice theater and very clean. The staff was efficient and helpful, ushering people to their seats while handing out programs. I went to see The Cursed Child, and there was even a themed display! You could mark your Hogwarts house to see how many theatergoers belonged to each one. What really sets this theater apart though is the Sensory Space. It was curtained off with pillows for anyone feeling too overwhelmed. I have never seen anything like this anywhere, and it would have been really helpful in places I would go with my neurodivergent brother. Truly I am impressed by this venue going the extra mile to accommodate everyone, and I would love to go back to see any show there. read more

I honestly had no idea this place was here (I guess I'm not cultured lol) This place did not disappoint. It's in a really nice area of Costa Mesa close to a bunch of hotels, south coast plaza and some of the best restaurants. (So many options for you to pick from and have dinner before your show) The architecture of the building itself is really beautiful. I would say it's a little tucked in, because I am always in this area and have never seen it before. The ambiance inside is nice as well. It's extremely clean This place has a parking garage and valet. Unfortunately, we had no idea they had valet. So we just automatically parked in the parking garage. But they do have a little walk way that is extremely easy to get to the building from the garage The lines went extremely fast for getting into the building. There was no restrictions on handbag size. ( or at least they didn't say anything to me about it / could differ from show to show and who is performing) All I had to do was open my purse and walk through a metal detector. Everyone was so friendly Once we entered the building, there are tons of staff directing you where to go if you need help finding your section They do have stairs when you walk in, but they have elevators. I chose to walk up a few stairs and then take the elevator to get to our seats We had second floor box circle level seating. It was extremely easy to get to the seats and the lady who took us to our seats was extremely kind and helpful She also gave us the rules - No placing your handbag on the railing, no video or flash photography I can't stress enough, the importance of elevators and it being accessible. So 5 stars for that The bathrooms were very clean and had a great amount of bathroom stalls. So there was no line I only saw one very tiny stand where you could get refreshments. Went on Wednesday and it was lovely!!!! They added a couple of songs and intros that actually improved the storyline by giving it a little more depth. The one with Baronness, Max, and Georg was fabulous!!! The kids were SO good! The set design with the large sliding wall was so clever and added a lot of movement. Right across from the South Coast Plaza mall. Lots of restaurants and things to do around the area. The architecture of the building was beautiful! The layout of the seating instead was amazing! Seems like there isn't a bad seat in the house. Only knock on this place, we had to purchase separate seating, went to the box office to see if we can change the seats and was told I can pay a difference which I agreed to do. Moments later they said they were unable to fulfill the request without any reason. The usher who had seen the whole interaction said it's probably because the show was completely sold out. Looked around during the show and of course there's empty seats here and there. Bummed that they weren't able to be a bit more accommodating in that. The recent Sound of Music production was entertaining and moving. They had an outstanding cast with power voices. The set and costumes were exquisitely detailed. Although it was long, it went fast. They could have cut the dance sequence between Liezl and the boy. One thing that they could have done is to replace "goodbye" with "good night" when the kids are going to bed. Then when they sing it the second time around, then it is appropriate to say goodbye. read more

Note: This review is only for the venue. I absolutely adore this place. Been here a few times in the past to see a production of School of Rock, as well as a Jazz performance by Chris Botti. Most recently I came to see, The Wiz, with my sister. The surrounding property is clean, and there are plenty of helpful security and staff to direct you to the right place. There is a multilevel parking structure, and I heard through the grape vine it costs $20 flat rate to park (not exactly sure though). The interior of both venues are open and airy, lighting and acoustics are wonderful, and each time I've been there's not a bad seat in the house. The bathrooms are clean and they are located on each level (always plus points, LOL). Looking forward to coming back to watch the production of The Notebook! CHEERS till then... read more

It has been many years since I was last here to see The Lion King. This time Jen wanted to see The Nutcracker. I was able to get two great orchestra seats (9th Row Center) and we coupled the experience across the street with dinner. Plenty of places to take photos (Christmas Trees, Nutcracker, Large Ornaments, Snowy Backdrops) and fellow patrons are always glad to reciprocate taking them for you. Nice little souvenir set-up, but recommend that you buy before the show and it will be crowded after the performance. Jen ordered a glass of wine, while I had a Pellegrino. Jen wasn't thrilled with their chardonnay. Even though there is a no late seating policy, several people were admitted after the performance started. Just a slight disruption, but assume they are making exceptions now. Jen loved the performance. For my first ballet, I appreciated the artistry and athleticism. One issue with seats as good as ours is that you hear everything on stage, like when the dancers land on the stage. We will most likely come back should we want to catch a play down the road and not want to travel to LA. read more

My friend's daughter was playing Clara in this production and we had to go. I've never seen a live ballet or been to Segerstrom. It was a real treat and such an amazing experience. I also went with my former ballerina friend and she was telling me of the difference between this production and others she has been in or watched. Absolutely loved our visit to Segerstrom Center for the Arts. We went to see Sylvia performed by the American Ballet Theatre and it was a truly beautiful ballet. The choreography, the music, and the dancers were all stunning. This theater honestly feels like my favorite place. It never disappoints. The theater itself is so well thought out. No matter where you sit, you have a great view of the stage and the sound is excellent. You can hear everything so clearly, which really makes the experience even more immersive. On top of that, they had the most delicious churros for a snack. Fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy. So good. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and everyone working or volunteering there is incredibly friendly and welcoming. From start to finish, it was just a wonderful experience. Came to see the Notebook tonight. Say in the 1st row balcony. The seat weren't too bad, but those stairs are nuts! We didn't take the elevator cuz it was just too long of a line. Im Glad we sat up there so now I know to just spend the money on better seats. I didn't grab anything from the concession stand cuz you couldn't take it in the theater with you. Also never understood why people would park a across the street at the mall and walk over to the theater to save the 10.00 parking fee after spending hundred in tickets. Friendly staff. The Segerstrom is a good theater for your plays, concerts, and musicals. The seating arrangement is done well enough to allow a clear view and sound for audiences. I recommend sitting in the orchestra section at least once! The theater does what it can to let audiences exit quickly, as there are many exits for each of the sections. However there will always be a bottleneck due to there being only two exits. The food and drink bar is nothing special, just average theater food with marked up prices. read more

Segerstrom Center is located across the street from South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa and they're known for their consistent lineup of excellent Broadway productions. It's not uncommon for touring musicals to make a stop at Segerstrom after a stop at Ahmanson Theater or Pantages Theater. I've been here to see a few musicals now (Hamilton, Hadestown, &Juliet). I've also visited their smaller theater on this campus to listen to the Pacific Chorale. Overall, I think the venue has some good and not so good things that cause me to have a preference to LA-based theaters. The Good: They consistently bring in the best travelling musicals and plays. Cheap seats can cost significantly less than the LA shows, depending on the show (Not necessarily true for something like Hamilton or Wicked). If you are willing to take a short walk across the street, you can get free parking at South Coast Plaza near Maggiano's. The campus at Segerstrom is beautiful and there are plenty of places to have a drink and/or take a seat outside the venue. The Bad: The seating sections are positioned at weird angles, which can make cheap seats feel like cheap seats. The acoustics of the venue can be terrible at their main theater (at least in the cheap seats), so it's not my first choice for dialogue heavy productions. Had a poor experience watching Hadestown here, so I ended up watching the show when I went to NYC in the following season. My experience with &Juliet (which was comparatively fun and lighthearted) was pretty good. I wouldn't come here for something like Les Miserables. If you want close parking, self-parking near the theater is $15 and valet parking is likely higher. read more

I visited recently to see "The Wiz" and was just really impressed by the beauty of the buildings glow at night. The theater was packed with beautiful people, all dressed up. I had a wonderful time! I love going to the Segerstrom for a show! I've gone to many shows and all have been top notch. The shows can vary from Broadway musicals to famous chefs telling their story. The theater is very large and tickets vary in pricing so you can usually find one that you're comfortable with. If you really like musicals, you can buy the entire season. Seats are comfortable and the view is pretty decent no matter where you sit. It sometimes can get loud (I had an issue with one musical) but now I bring earplugs just in case. There are plenty of restrooms but the line can get long during intermission. You can reserve snacks ahead of time to pick up during the break. There are also plenty of photo ops on each floor before each musical begins. There is also plenty of parking. Paid parking at the Segerstrom can vary from $15-30. I usually park at the South coast mall and walk over. That way, I can always grab dinner first before the show. Always a fun night out! read more

This was one of the best venues to catch a musical! It was both very beautiful outside as it was inside. I prefer coming here over the Pantages in Hollywood or the Ahmanson in Downtown LA. I recently caught an evening showing of Monty Python's Spamalot. Even though I was sitting up in the loge section, the acoustics were still great and I still got a decent view of the action on the stage. The restrooms were clean and very well maintained. It was great to see the Wait..wait don't tell me! podcast live at the Segerstrom. I got to see how long the show takes and hear it when it aired to see the difference. The differences is that they remove a lot of the not-for-radio jokes and do some retakes of parts they messed up on. Got to see Peter Sagal and asked him a question during the audience Q&A. Lots of seats here have a great view so you'll see most of the stage. I had the orchestra seats during this live taping. read more

Beautiful venue. I've seen a Broadway show here but this review is for the FREE public tours they offer multiple times a week. You can book reservations for the tour online (10 AM start) and trained docents will take you all throughout the facility and show you how the center works behind-the-scenes. I learned so much about the center's intricate details, architecture, and groundbreaking features that make it one of the premier performing arts centers in the country. I opted for a Saturday morning tour and there were about 10 of us total in the group. The tour lasted about 90-minutes and we went through the Segerstrom Hall, Concert Hall, and other areas of the center that is typically closed off to the public during operating hours. We even got to go on stage! Really cool and educational for all ages. Highly recommend. Usually for free parking I park at South Coast Plaza and walk across the street or walk over the bridge. read more

After Attending my first show 2024, Aladdin, I had such a great experience that I bought season pass for 2024-25 season for those exact seat/rows, which included 10 shows, I loved it so much that I renewed it for another season 2025-26, which also included 10 shows. I loved the season pass, you pick the day, seat and row, and those tickets are permanently yours for the whole season. My show will always be on a Thursday. overall great venue, the staff here are always nice and great customers service. All the broadway has beeb great so far. I love live performances, last season I really enjoyed back to the future, Hamilton, & juliet to name a few. This season, I have seen and loved Something like it's hot and Moulin Rouge. I cant wait to see harry potter, the wiz, and Phantom of the Opera for this upcoming season . The segerstrom is also right next to South Coast Plaza, i would always have dinner before, and then walk over to the Segerstrom. I was thoroughly impressed with my experience taking in a Saturday Matinee performance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, however there are a couple of things I think they can improve on. My wife and I saw Mamma Mia in the theater and we had a great time. We were seated towards the back and had no issues with hearing and the sound system seemed stellar. The ambiance was like we were at a broadway play. The service of the people at the entrance in scanning tickets and telling you where the relevant door was, was quite a nice touch as well. The one thing I have to call out is the food options. They only had snacks and extremely overpriced drinks. A small glass of wine was $22 which is wildly overpriced. They also only had candy and brownies/cookies and was disappointed they didn't have pre made sandwiches or something else. I understand they have a couple of sit down restaurants but that was confusing as well because the website indicated that they had a couple of restaurants on the premises but the ushers were confused when I referenced the places from the website to them. Either way, more food options and slightly lower prices would be nice but overall had a great time and glad we have such a high quality performing arts venue in Orange County read more
