It's a long way down to the stage..

We went to a spectacular performance of Phantom of the Opera at the Segerstrom Center tonight. Fantastic operetta voices and a hauntingly musical score that brought such varied emotions and we couldn't help to silently humming and strumming to the oh so familiar tunes. The stage was far away as we set in the upper balcony with access through door 113. Yet, the sound of the orchestra and the lyrical songs presented by trained vocal chords was a super experience... once in a while you hear an imbalance of stereophonic placement of pick up microphones... but the orchestra played a stellar line of bold music. The "Hall" was an impressive architectural feat, but I can only find one concern, elevators are great, but the floor levels are confusing.. we rode the elevator up and down 3 times before we got to the right floor to cross the "bridge" to the parking structure. Yes, here Ushers can steer you the wrong way. But hey, it was overall a great night out with the family and we took lots of fun pictures. We made sure to order for intermission and the restrooms are spic and span clean. The kids had an experience that they won't soon forget... I am a happy grandfather and won't hesitate if another family outing gets planned for a future performance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts.

I always enjoy coming here to watch plays. This is my second time here within the year. The first time was watching Neil Diamond. Today it was the Phantom !!! Parking is easy and organized.

If you're a Harry Potter fan put this one on your bookmarks. Harry Potter and the cursed child was one of the best productions we've seen at Segerstrom. Well thought out story line of complex twists and turns, pyrotechnics and great sound quality. The stage production is magnificent! Some fun and magical moments. Great if you're familiar with the books or movies but may be a bit hard to understand the terminology if you're new to the wizard world. Muggles may have a hard time following but can appreciate the quality of stage performance and production. Intermission is quick before the start of the second half. Concessions are on each floor. Bottled drinks and snack items available for purchase. We were at orchestra terrace which has an outdoor balcony space beside the theater entrance. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

This center is spell-tacular. No food service but the concession stand sells snacks, drinks ,and coffee. $$. You can order early at the counter for snacks before the show begins and pickup during intermission, no apps. The ambience is a play with a movie magic twist. Better than your normal abracadabra. The special effects are wand- derful who doesn't like floating chairs with a fight scene. It was a spell-of a time. The Segerstrom host a few events and the scenery is amazing.

Nice theater and very clean. The staff was efficient and helpful, ushering people to their seats while handing out programs. I went to see The Cursed Child, and there was even a themed display! You could mark your Hogwarts house to see how many theatergoers belonged to each one. What really sets this theater apart though is the Sensory Space. It was curtained off with pillows for anyone feeling too overwhelmed. I have never seen anything like this anywhere, and it would have been really helpful in places I would go with my neurodivergent brother. Truly I am impressed by this venue going the extra mile to accommodate everyone, and I would love to go back to see any show there.

Taken after the show. The building is beautiful

I honestly had no idea this place was here (I guess I'm not cultured lol) This place did not disappoint. It's in a really nice area of Costa Mesa close to a bunch of hotels, south coast plaza and some of the best restaurants. (So many options for you to pick from and have dinner before your show) The architecture of the building itself is really beautiful. I would say it's a little tucked in, because I am always in this area and have never seen it before. The ambiance inside is nice as well. It's extremely clean This place has a parking garage and valet. Unfortunately, we had no idea they had valet. So we just automatically parked in the parking garage. But they do have a little walk way that is extremely easy to get to the building from the garage The lines went extremely fast for getting into the building. There was no restrictions on handbag size. ( or at least they didn't say anything to me about it / could differ from show to show and who is performing) All I had to do was open my purse and walk through a metal detector. Everyone was so friendly Once we entered the building, there are tons of staff directing you where to go if you need help finding your section They do have stairs when you walk in, but they have elevators. I chose to walk up a few stairs and then take the elevator to get to our seats We had second floor box circle level seating. It was extremely easy to get to the seats and the lady who took us to our seats was extremely kind and helpful She also gave us the rules - No placing your handbag on the railing, no video or flash photography I can't stress enough, the importance of elevators and it being accessible. So 5 stars for that The bathrooms were very clean and had a great amount of bathroom stalls. So there was no line I only saw one very tiny stand where you could get refreshments. I did not get anything, so I don't know what they had to offer (such as alcohol or if they had any food) The write up online for the show we went to for Tchaikovsky's Fifth & Avi Avital Pacific Symphony -Experience Tchaikovsky's Triumphant Fifth & Mandolin Virtuoso Avi Avital! Went on Wednesday and it was lovely!!!! They added a couple of songs and intros that actually improved the storyline by giving it a little more depth. The one with Baronness, Max, and Georg was fabulous!!! The kids were SO good! The set design with the large sliding wall was so clever and added a lot of movement. Mother Superior and Maria had beautiful voices. Bonus: Alpine Delight cocktail was delicious!

Went to see dancing with the stars here last night and I am just in awe. The whole theater was sold out! It was an incredible experience. Parking was only $15. Concession stand was reasonably priced. Drinks are allowed in the theater but snacks are not. This was an amazing show!

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is a beautiful theatre. I've been there before and went again last night to see The Sound of Music with my mother. The staff is helpful and friendly. Parking is $15 and close to the theatre. Can't wait to see another show in a few months with my husband.

Note: This review is only for the venue. I absolutely adore this place. Been here a few times in the past to see a production of School of Rock, as well as a Jazz performance by Chris Botti. Most recently I came to see, The Wiz, with my sister. The surrounding property is clean, and there are plenty of helpful security and staff to direct you to the right place. There is a multilevel parking structure, and I heard through the grape vine it costs $20 flat rate to park (not exactly sure though). The interior of both venues are open and airy, lighting and acoustics are wonderful, and each time I've been there's not a bad seat in the house. The bathrooms are clean and they are located on each level (always plus points, LOL). Looking forward to coming back to watch the production of The Notebook! CHEERS till then...

It has been many years since I was last here to see The Lion King. This time Jen wanted to see The Nutcracker. I was able to get two great orchestra seats (9th Row Center) and we coupled the experience across the street with dinner. Plenty of places to take photos (Christmas Trees, Nutcracker, Large Ornaments, Snowy Backdrops) and fellow patrons are always glad to reciprocate taking them for you. Nice little souvenir set-up, but recommend that you buy before the show and it will be crowded after the performance. Jen ordered a glass of wine, while I had a Pellegrino. Jen wasn't thrilled with their chardonnay. Even though there is a no late seating policy, several people were admitted after the performance started. Just a slight disruption, but assume they are making exceptions now. Jen loved the performance. For my first ballet, I appreciated the artistry and athleticism. One issue with seats as good as ours is that you hear everything on stage, like when the dancers land on the stage. We will most likely come back should we want to catch a play down the road and not want to travel to LA.

My friend's daughter was playing Clara in this production and we had to go. I've never seen a live ballet or been to Segerstrom. It was a real treat and such an amazing experience. I also went with my former ballerina friend and she was telling me of the difference between this production and others she has been in or watched. So interesting that even this classic ballet gets reinterpreted over time. We parked at South Coast Plaza and walked over. Please come and create your own experience.

Absolutely loved our visit to Segerstrom Center for the Arts. We went to see Sylvia performed by the American Ballet Theatre and it was a truly beautiful ballet. The choreography, the music, and the dancers were all stunning. This theater honestly feels like my favorite place. It never disappoints. The theater itself is so well thought out. No matter where you sit, you have a great view of the stage and the sound is excellent. You can hear everything so clearly, which really makes the experience even more immersive. On top of that, they had the most delicious churros for a snack. Fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy. So good. The venue is absolutely beautiful, and everyone working or volunteering there is incredibly friendly and welcoming. From start to finish, it was just a wonderful experience. I always leave feeling inspired and happy, and this visit was no exception!

Ask the Community - Segerstrom Center for the Arts

    Does this theater allow children?

    Yes.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a moderately priced early lunch before the matinee? Thank you in advance!

Park at South Coast Plaza and have lunch at Boudin and then walk over the bridge to Segerstrom.

I am going to watch a 10 am show with my kid at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Hall in several days. Is there a dress code?I don't want to be looking under or over-dreased for the venue. Any recommendations?

Matinee showings are less formal, especially on weekdays. I would suggest smart/business casual. Something polished but not formal. However, it's a pretty mixed pot. I've seen people show up in jeans, sitting next to those in evening gowns and suits…

Do I need to buy a ticket for my daughter who is 6 years old for wicked?

Yes, a ticket is needed. And the show is recommended for age 8+. It's a little dark and scary for little kids.

Best seats for your buck? Group of six so I'm trying not to break the bank

I'm seeing a show here in November and got seats for Row J, Seat 21 in Orchestra. Anyone know if it's a good seat?

    Check out https://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/segerstrom+hall/

We are planning to go see Phantom and want to pay 35 ea for out tickets. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the best seats are for this price?

Call them but I dont think the seats are that low but good luck.

For the upcoming shen yun show i am thinking of sitting in the orchestra section but i am also wondering how the balcony would be for this show? i do enjoy shows from afar as i can see the entire show put together VS. up close and details.

When choosing a seat on their site, you can click on the seats that have a camera icon and see what the view is like from that seat.

How cold is the theater (air conditioning)?

    Between 60 to 70 Degrees

Hi I just bought Hamilton tickets for my 10 year old and I. We bought the first row of the balcony, and I foolishly assumed it would be a metal railing, not a block wall. Will she be able to see over the wall?

Yes, we had same seats for Book of Mormon. She may have to sit on the edge and glance over the railing if she's shorter than 5 feet, but she should still be able to enjoy. We had no issue.

Is there a temporary parking space to Pick up tickets? And, is the box office open during the day?

Box office is open daily from 10am to 6pm and you can temporary park in the valet or roundabout area in front of the box office if you want to run in and pickup tickets.

Hi I just bought a ticket for Hamilton and I was just wondering if my tickets are very far back (balcony row V) will I be able to see the show?

Hello Holly! Thank you for your question. Many patrons really enjoy sitting in the balcony as you are able to see the full stage at all times from those seats. It's a great perspective for taking in the full staging of the production but can be…

How are the seats in the venue? They don't look like they actually face the stage.

Not sure if I understand the question, but the seats are very comfortable (unlike older theatres in LA), and they face the stage, but not head on, as this is a bigger venue.…

Is there any way to know how long a show is going to last? I'm seeing a classical composer but I am driving quite a distance and just wondering if I should be expecting to get home really late.…

Contact the company running the show and ask them how long the show will be. You can probably also call the box office.

I'm old school and like to get dressed for the theatre. But times have changed. For those that frequent, what's the attire vibe?

It's Southern California! You'll see people in polos and shorts along side people who've dressed up. It also depends on what you're seeing. A classical piano performance will tend to have a "dressed up" audience compared to a Broadway show on tour.…

Where are the best seats for a concert?

Orchestra--as close to the front rows as possible. I sat in the Terrace and was lost. Mezz and Balcony--Forget about it! I could not hear all the dialog clearly. Front couple of rows of Terrace maybe--probably OK. Basically, like most venues--go…

My friend booked online the day off the event for an Upper Level VIP Booth for $300 + tax/fees. We had a good time & of course with thanks to the alcohol too :) Music was not bad but I felt it was better towards the end of the night. Well, here's the quick run down --- Arrived by 10:45PM. No lines whatsoever & no hostess at the front. Just the security working out front & they walked us in to our VIP table. The main club room was at no more than 40% capacity but the smaller patio room was packed (more chill vibe, music was not my liking tho). We didn't get the Upper Level Booth cuz there were hardly anyone there that bought a VIP booth so they closed off all that section. So we were on the floor bout 3 tables away from the DJ booth. The choice of alcohol (priced at $300) we wanted was not available said our hostess. IMO - there was not a lot of bottle choices to begin with. So we had to pick something of a higher price & we ended up having to gett a decent bottle priced at $500. Otherwise if not, we all be having hangover the next day! Oh don't forgot that increase of bottle price doesn't include tax & gratuity, so will have to pay more than what was paid online. 3 lovely waitresses did come out with signs & bottle sparkles to our table. They were super sweet. We had water bottles & mixers. I forgot her name but our assigned waitress came to check on us through out the night & made our drinks as needed. Service was good. They also had 1 aerialist which seemed a bit outta place & unnecessary . DJ Kim Lee did not come on til 11:30PM and left by 12:30AM! Her set was a-ok but we made the best of it & enjoyed our time out. We almost stayed til the end but left around 1:30AM where there was practically no one on the dance floor. Few wore masks & most did not. So all I can stay there was plenty of room to dance all over the main room & no long lines waiting for drinks at the bar or even at the restroom!
