History

Established in 1960.

In the early 1900's, the Newberry family settled on this South Georgia land. Tommy Newberry, born here in 1933, had a vision of people sharing in his passionate pursuit of the bobwhite quail. This led him to attend a seminar at the University of Georgia offering insight and insurrection on organizing a quail hunting property. In 1960, he was awarded the third commercial hunting preserve license ever issued by the state of Georgia. Several years later, Mr. Newberry was called to become a Methodist minister. He called on his sons, Tom and Mark, and daughters, Kay and Debra, to take over the hunting and farming operation,which they did until 1992. In 1992, Kay and her husband, Paschal Brooks, took over the care of this special place. The family tradition continues as LeeAnn Brooks Dalrymple, daughter of Kay and Paschal, joined our staff as manager of our lodging facility. LeeAnn grew up on Quail Country Plantation and brings her passion for the land and family business to our team.

Meet the Business Owner: Dr. Paschal and Kay B.

Kay Newberry Brooks' father, started Quail Country Plantation in 1960 and it has been managed by family throughout the years. In 1992, Kay and her husband, Paschal Brooks, took over the care of this special place. The family tradition continues as LeeAnn Brooks Dalrymple, daughter of Kay and Paschal, joined our staff as manager of our Orvis Endorsed lodging facility. LeeAnn grew up on Quail Country Plantation and brings her passion for the land and family business to our management team.
