Very hopeful going in, very disappointed going out... main course: meatloaf was smothered in very sweet thick barbeque sauce sides: macaroni and cheese had no taste, could only eat one bite rice and gravy - instant or canned gravy - not what you would expect from a Southern cooking restaurant. squash casserole was bland and mushy, tasted like left-overs. Atmosphere was clean and very cute. Service was awesome. Food however was very bland with no seasoning. Fried chicken looked and tasted like frozen banquet chicken. Sides had no seasoning. Went in with high expectations as the good years ago had been awesome left feeling highly disappointed and looking for edible food. Good homemade food, employees are friendly, good service, and the ambience matches the name of the diner. Had liver and onions one time, and I thought the liver could've been prepared better and a bigger portion, and I had the grouper recently and it was a smaller portion than I expected. It is a good place to eat, and the food is unique and good. My wife ordered the chicken salad and after about 10 minutes they said they were out of it so she ordered a pimento cheese sandwich that was supposed to come with lettuce and tomato on white bread, but there was no lettuce or tomato and it was on a toasted hamburger bun. read more

Every time I visit my family in Albany, I have to eat at the Mayberry Diner at least 3 times. It's in a lovely little shopping center. The restaurant is cozy and cute with lots of Andy Griffith Show memorabilia and yummy southern comfort food. It's quiet and great for conversation. If you are of color, stay away. I want the same customer service that I see you give to your regulars. Overall, the Mayberry Diner can best be described as average. Decent food, decent prices and good pie. Only open for a couple of hours each day (11am-2:30pm) so if you want to try the pie then you have to be punctual. I would skip lunch and go straight for the pie. Went here for lunch. Atmosphere is nice, staff is friendly and attentive. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and Mac n cheese. I would say the food was just ok. Nothing special but not bad.
