Nice course, well maintained. Target golf on many holes. The rough is high grass. So hit them straight. Easier said than done. Pack some golf balls. This is a public course. So walkers and riders are mixed. We played on a 90 degree day and we were jammed up all day. Marshal should be more aggressive in pushing slow groups. Beverage cart was a major plus that day. Took over five hours to complete 18. Enjoyed it. Had to find shade on a day like that to keep cool, while waiting. read more

Wow...the WORST golf course in the area to play in the winter. There were water puddles everywhere, water hazards where it's not supposed to be, most of the bunkers had water. You know it's bad when there are pumps draining water from the ponds on the fairways. Truly a poorly designed course for the PNW. Can't believe they charge money for this place. I wouldn't go back for free. read more

I golfed her years ago, long before the trees grew. I will admit it was pretty boring and cost too much for what it was. But times have changed, the trees have grown, and the whole course has matured. It's still on the pricey side but much more fun now. And a nice driving range. read more

I was there on last weekend. I was there for lunch and planned 18 holes with my guest from out of state. Lunch was good and friendly person made and served. The golf course was nice and peaceful, but the counter person was rude and attitude was terrible. I don't know how his days went by, but just check out the cart and I had a few general questions with confirmation. He was very aggressively responded and I felt his racist. I was embarrassed in front of my guest, and felt mistreated with no reason. Golf course front desk associates need to have basic manners. People come and enjoy the day in golf course, so we pay for green fee. Before started golfing, we felt so bad by his attitudes. I would tell my other friends to beware of the front desk staff at Quily Valley. read more

I love this course. Again, I thought I reviewed this already. Scenery is very pretty. Holes are challenging, but pars are attainable. Prices are decent, look at Golf Now - for deals. The reasons I like it, I play well here, the main pro is a friendly guy--well known professional teacher-Doug Hixson, it's always in great shape, the drive out is pretty, too. Driving range is somewhat covered. Good selection of beer, wine, and hard liquor There are some cool taverns in the town of North Plains to visit -when you are done golfing. Quail Valley is an 6,603 yard 18 hole championship style golf course situated against the coast range foothills in Banks, Oregon in the cusp of wine country. This course is relatively flat and very walker-friendly. Water comes into play on many holes. It does play a little shorter than other modern courses so choose your tees properly based on their slope rating. An abundance of ducks and birds on this course adds to the ambiance. There is nothing like trying to concentrate on your next shot while a mother killdeer is playing the "wounded wing" act next to you and trying to lure you away from her nest. Hit a bad shot on this course and you'd swear that the ducks are laughing at you. When this course was first built, almost no trees came into play as they were all young; however, they are starting to fill in. Consequently, you can spray the ball off of the tee on many holes and still make par (as long as you miss on the correct side). I've seen some better players actually play the opposite fairway on purpose for a better angle for the approach shot. The bent grass/poa greens are some of the best maintained of any public course in the area (even better than Pumpkin Ridge in my opinion). Like most poa greens, they roll fast right after being cut and slow down in the evening. The driving range has grass tees; they also has a nice short game practice area nearby with chipping green (complete with bunkers) and a putting green. Course drainage is above average. Since there is not a lot of shade, the course tends to drain out quickly. The clubhouse grill serves standard golf course fare - beer, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and hot dogs. In summary, this course is one of the most solid values around Portland and is frequented by serious golfers. read more

Great Price, friendly people. I didn't get a chance to try the driving range. The course conditions are pretty good. There can be some golfers who are not very good and holding things up. Greens are pretty slow here after playing the reserve a couple of times. Overall the course is well manicured. It's a very open format but with trees in strategic places which force you to play well. Water does come into play in some holes, and there are deep tall grass on some sides to get in your way. I somehow avoided all bunkers today so can't comment on the sand quality. There is a difficult par 3 which is I think 232 yards. Also a par 4 which was 434 which is fairly long. But overall the course is pretty short I think. Played from the Blues. This means on point with your 3 wood. Not easy for me, but at least there is some space on the side for error. I think I will drive back to try the range although it's a little far for me. But nothing beats the real grass driving ranges! read more

I love this course. The driving range is one of a kind, because you actually get to practice on real grass and not the fake turf. It allows you to see your true swings and learn to better control your golf balls. It's always full of cars in the parking lot, but the driving range is always unfilled. There are greens to practice both your pitching and putting. It's peaceful and senere. Highly recommend. It's a drive from Portland, but well worth it. read more

From a value perspective, this is one of the best in the area. This course plays much more difficult than it looks. It appears wide open but it is very deceiving, you can run up a big number if you are not careful. The second hole is a great example. The devil on one shoulder says take out the big stick and try to drive the green while the angel tells you to take out the five wood and play the ball to the 100 yd marker. If the devil wins you are looking at a 6 or more 9 out of 10 times. While challenging, the course is also a great place for the high handicapper or beginner. Playing from the whites will reduce the stress on the beginner. With the exception of few holes, most drives do not require carry, so the beginner gets a chance to get the ball in play. Fairways and greens are always in great condition. The practice facilities are excellent. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Great value, well worth the drive. read more

What happened to this course? It used to be well-maintained but currently it is in very poor condition. I realize it is summer, but why so little water on the fairways? On average the fairways were 2/3 green and 1/3 hard pan. No Marshall on the course. We literally waited on every shot. Bring your own water. We never saw the drink cart after hole 5. This place is always pretty busy.Usually we find a parking space, but more often than not, the lot is pretty full. This course is characterized by it's varying length and moderate elevation changes. It is generally a fairly wide open track. There also aren't too many trees, so that's one less thing you have to worry about. Unfortunately with that, it can get hot during the summer. One of the holes is even like that pyramid type hole that you would see on a putt-putt course. It's a bit of an exaggeration, but it is crowned quite a bit. It's located a ways outside Portland, so it is pretty nice out there. On some holes, it can get windy because it's in a relatively flat area. The condition of the course is always pretty good and for the price it isn't too bad. It probably caters to golfers of all levels. read more

For a scratch golfer this would be a 3 star or less. I rate it 5 stars because: (1) it's great value for the money especially for seniors; (2) it's a great course to walk; (3) the setting is beautiful; (4) most of the holes are challenging; (5) the staff are great; and (6) the practice facility is all you would want. Quail Valley gets crowded when the weather is good which tells you something about its value. Play early in the morning when it's not crowded. I have never heard anyone who has played this course say anything negative. It's a gem, well worth the 25 minute drive from Portland. read more

Quail Valley is a lot like Chehalem in terms of its quality and the price for it. They're both top-notch, nice courses for a good price. It is a ways out in Banks, heading east on Highway 26 and past Pumpkin Ridge. Just played here today, and in the heat of summer in 90+ weather, it is scorching since there are no trees and the sun blankets the entire course. We also only saw one water station, which was on the back 9, which was kind of disappointing. I'd definitely play here again in cooler temps. It plays pretty long but I wouldn't say it's super challenging since there aren't huge dog legs or turns. There are several water hazards that make it interesting, but all in all, it is one of the top courses for most levels of golfers at a good price. read more
