I usually don't post any reviews, and when I do they're positive. This is an exception. It's a beautiful course, but terrible management. Tee times are so overbooked you'll spend more time waiting than playing. The marshals are downright disrespectful, talking down to players, refusing to listen, and lying about their rules as they selectively accuse players unjustly. Tried to clarify and reason with them and got attitude instead of answers. Management clearly backs the power trip instead of fixing the problem. Shame, because it could be a great course if they cared half as much about players as they do about packing the schedule and being rude to those that paid to play. read more

I am an officer of the Tri-Mountain Eagles Senior Men's Club in Ridgefield, Washington. For years we have been playing one round of golf each month at another golf course. We have played at Wildwood many times before. When I attempted to reach out last evening and today I was greeted with animosity. The general manager, Aaron, was obstinate and said we were never welcome to play there again because his members wouldn't allow us to book 6 tee times ahead of them. Does that really make sense to anybody? Throwing away revenue? Don't think so. I will never play there again. I'm hoping others rebel because quite frankly he is an a**hole. read more

Made a tee time for a Saturday morning on the previous Saturday. Went to look at the confirmation email and the tee time was actually made for Thursday. I called to ask why that happened and they said the Saturday time must have been booked already (even though the app didn't show that) so it defaulted to the next day that the tee time was available. They said it happens and it's the software and they didn't care and that Saturday was booked. This is the 2nd time this has happened and they are aware of the issue but don't care enough to fix it. I will never try to book this place again. Horrible management. read more

Great course in great shape!! Very challenging course too. I had a really good time on this course last Saturday. The staff is very friendly and the food is delicious. I had a beer and a chicken quesadilla after my round and I really enjoyed it. They bring the food out to you while you sit on a huge patio. They had posted an Instagram question asking "where are you golfing at tomorrow". I already had a tee time at 11:15am. They replied back and said the 4 some was on them!! I was thinking they only covered the golf carts but it was actually the entire round of golf of 18 holes for me and 3 of my buddies. $240.00 value!!! I was so happy!! This is one of my favorite courses in the greater PDX area and since it's just past Sauvie Island, it really feels like you're out of town. Wildwood is a really beautiful course that feels like it's been carved out of a forested valley. There are some amazing elevated tees and some challenging uphill approach shots - lots of variety. Several holes have winding brooks alongside them and you can always find quite a few golf balls - so bring your ball retriever. It's hilly af so I always get a cart and they just repaved the cart path so it's smoooooth asphalt all the way around. I wouldn't know what the sand traps are like since I'm never in them. Kidding. In the summer they have a BBQ concert series on their huge patio that overlooks the course - it's a great way to spend an evening after your round. read more

I played this course on a Thursday we had a 10:40 tee time. The first tee box was absolute chaos because there wasn't a starter anywhere to be found. With three groups waiting to tee off we finally got our chance fifteen minutes after our reserved time. Needless to say it only got worse having to wait at each subsequent tee box anywhere from ten to fifteen minutes to play the hole. The pace of play was slower than a snail's pace taking almost six hours to complete the round. On the fourteenth hole a young man from the pro shop approached us asking how the pace of play was... we let him know our dissatisfaction. His response was troubling as he started "management knows this is going on and won't address it" The course was in good shape, however, I won't be wasting my time at Wild Wood again. read more

Played my birthday round out here on a weekday last month and had one of the slower rounds of my life. For me & the guys I was playing with that's not a huge issue - we were out there to have fun. First tee was stacked up and we got off roughly 15 mins late. There was no starter. Played up the asses of the group in front of us on the first hole, then decided we'd take it easy since none of us were going anywhere. Sunny day, good company, beautiful scenery, cold beverages...life could be worse. Nearly two hours (!) after our tee time, an employee drove out to our group in the middle of hole 5 while we were waiting for the green to clear and began yelling at us to play ready golf. The employee couldn't see the group in front of us (slight uphill dogleg right) yet repeatedly claimed we were holding everyone up. He was *so* certain that we were the problem that it left our entire foursome upset even after we convinced him to drive up and take a look at what we were up against. Stunningly, after all that, the employee didn't come back to apologize or concede any error on his or the course's part. We quit after 9 holes. Course: 5/5. Management: -1/5. Disappointing change from when I used to play here regularly, and it's unfortunate to see here in the reviews that we were far from the only group this has happened to. Won't soon make the drive out again if that's the kind of service players should expect. read more

Hidden gem and beautiful course to play. However, stacking groups to tee off at every "7 minutes" is overbooked and causing multiple holes backed up waiting. This enough to ruin the experience and the pace of play. They need to space it out to every "10 minutes" instead for each group to minimize the backup. Please change this! read more

The definition of a hidden gem. Truly. I don't know where to start but let's start from when you drive up, the view is amazing and beautiful entrance to a great golf experience. Ample parking before you take a short walk to the clubhouse. Once you enter the clubhouse, tons of cool art/paintings on the wall with beautiful windows looking out onto the course. They offers lots of merchandise from their own to other local brands. You can tell they are involved with their PNW and golf communities. Checking in is a breeze, the staff is always so friendly and accommodating. They have lots of beverages options without any liquor. A great grill menu along with snacks. The course? Pristine almost always. We can't predict weather can we? But despite that- they work their assess of to keep this place prime. The course is hard-ish at least for me because I'm the worst but it's not an easy spot. It's challenging and fun for all levels! My favorite holes are 3, 12 and 17. Once you are finished up, you MUST go have a Bev on their amazing patio. The views are epic and great vibes. In the summer on Friday nights they have live music which is always great for friends and family. I truly can't recommend this place enough. read more

Very poor management and rude staff. Very beautiful and fun course, but is always overbooked and slow. Showed up 10 min early for my tee time and got yelled at by rude staff to hurry down to the tee box (that people were still teeing of in) and that we were late. Stuck behind a group due to overbooking, and at the end got yelled at by a staff member for "slow play". I explained that we were behind other people the whole time and he was extremely rude and told us that he didn't want to argue with us and to be ready to play next time. Played here recently with others that also had negative things to say, and this is not the first time I've had a bad experience here. Contemplating not coming back again. I've been coming to wildwood since I was a kid and it is my favorite course in the state. But with how it's being run and what I experienced with the staff today I don't know if I'll be coming back. read more

This is a very fun course, well-maintained and a great bargain. I had not played here since they built the back nine and I am so impressed! The course itself is in great shape and the greens are true - amazing after last week's record heat! The staff were friendly. Greens fees are very reasonable for Portland. It is hilly, but easily walkable. The elevation and twisting layout make it challenging, but I thought the holes are fair. There is room for error if you take the right club. The fairways offered good lies. What a great surprise to have rediscovered Wildwood! read more

What a GEM!!! This has to be the hands down best bang for your buck golf course in... well.... I would say North Portland area for sure if not more! Beautiful course with tons of excitement from every hole. If you love elevated tees with enough hazards to be challenging to every skill level this is your course. I was amazed at the quality of the course for the price that it is offered. Although the clubhouse doesn't have much of a pro shop, this is the place to go. Bottom Line- Go play 18 and finish it off with a beer and food overlooking the course. you won't regret it! read more

If you want to spend 5.5 hours in a cart playing 18 holes and having balls being dropped all around you with no one yelling Fore, then this is the place for you! The wonderful views match the lack of effort that management provide to expedite play. At the turn we were told that they were doing everything they can to move things along, but I never saw a Marshall patrolling the course asking people to move it along. They book tee times every eight minutes which is just asking for trouble. Refreshment cart would be nice as you are waiting 20 minutes and getting mortared with golf balls. This would have made the extra long round a bit more bearable. Let's try not to overbook and add some refreshment carts and this place will be the go to course. read more

We aren't regular golfers, so we can't speak to the course, but we did recently catch some live music on their beautiful, covered patio and we had a wonderful time. The large patio, with great views, is perfect for a summer evening. It's great that their live music starts early and the Classic Rock Boneheads were great fun. We couldn't give them five stars because the limited menu and the mediocre food quality could be greatly improved. It wasn't horrible, but it could be so much better. And, as with any place right now, they seemed short staffed and we had to clear our own table. The staff was clearly working hard and very friendly. Convenient location between Portland and Scappoose. Abundant parking. We'll definitely return for their live music. read more

Negative reviews always seem to come from negative people. I wonder about the guy leaving a review who doesn't know the difference between "breaks", and "brakes". Let's not blame the cart here. As for the guy who was getting hit into...I wish I could drive the green on a par 4. I would have congratulated the guy and let him play through the first time. Problem solved. And to the guy who went on his rant about the management being horrendous with no examples and says he would rather set his money on fire than "contribute" to Wildwood's bottom line...you sound ridiculous. Wildwood does not need your contributions. I don't see any reason to play anywhere else. Great course, great service, great prices, great experience...every time. It's like a country club that you don't have to join. Keep it up, Wildwood. You've got a great thing going. Don't listen to the naysayers! read more

I used to absolutely love this course. I live 10 minutes from it. However, the recent changes are causing me to drive an hour to play elsewhere. I understand these days golf is getting more expensive so I will not Comment on that. I played year yesterday and teed off at 1230. It took us 2 hours and 50 minutes to finish 9 holes. At multiple points there were 3 groups on 1 tee waiting. The course stacks their groups ridiculously close. We asked If we could take a rain check for the back nine and we're rudely turned down. I love to support local businesses but they make is increasingly tough to do so. I'm not one that thinks golf has to be fast but over booking kills a the experience everytime. read more

Have to say, this was one of my favorite courses in the Portland area and I played there often, even gave the guy at the counter new Shoes one visit. Then my company had their annual golf outing there for the first time and one of there cart guys stole my new Bose speaker I left it attached to the cart windshield frame. I know what you're thinking, how do I know he stole it. Well as the tournament ended I pulled our cart in line to have it cleaned and as I got to the back of the cart I looked up and saw my speaker strapped to the driver side bar at eye level and said "gotta grab that after I load my bag." As I changed my shoes and packed up my golf bag a cart guy walked up and said, "I'll take the cart for you." I said thanks and started to rush so he could and as he waited he took the twosome sign off the front of the cart and jumped in. i pulled my bag off and continued to load my bag and grab my car keys out of the side pocket and he pulled off too the employee wash area for the carts. Yes i forgot that quick in my rush, mind you the speaker is eye level on the front windshield bar starring him in the face as he drove off if your sitting in the seat you cant miss it and as your spraying down the cart you would wash it. (Weather Proof) I packed my car and drove off right after and when I was about 30 minutes away I remembered the speaker and called the clubhouse. A lady that answered the phone was told the story, put me on hold and returned to say they found it and gave it to a coworker and friend that set up the golf outing. I immediately called my coworker and he informed me he was never given the speaker. When i called WW back, the women informed me she had mis spoken and she would be checking again with the cart guys and call me. A few days went by and I called again and was given the excuse then that they hired temp help for the event (Mainly older kids to work carts) and most weren't there anymore and they never found my speaker. I then said we both know there is no nobody else that could taken it because he drove it back to the employee cart area and there were people immediately began cleaning and washing them down as we brought our carts in. She apologized that they couldn't find it and that was it. It's really not about the speaker that I had just purchased or the $150 I spent on it, Its more that I played there regularly, had even given a gift to a staff member. What really makes me mad is that they never once offered to make it right, never said "Hey sorry here's your $ for the speaker, or here's a couple rounds on us. They knew it was their staff they hired and just shrugged their shoulders. As a result I will never set foot on their course again, I will urge my company to go back to our old course next year and tell anyone who reads this that the course is nice but hide your belongings and if you lose something don't expect them to get it back to you. read more

Beautiful environment, quirky course, nice clubhouse, friendly staff. The course was oddly mushy after almost three weeks of warm, sunny weather. Most tee shots and/or greens sit well above the fairway, making for difficult lies and yardage anomalies. The sand was nice, so fluffy they provide lead rakes instead if the standard bunker rakes. The greens, fairways and rough were in good shape despite the mushiness and the fairways tight. Errant shots could easily find the woods or brush, so go with your straightest long club off the tees even if it's a 7 iron (which is plenty on a few holes). Have a beer on their wonderful terrace and commiserate about your round. There us so much I like about this course except the layout, reminding me of a long executive course in comparison to a championship layout. Wildwood Golf Course is characterized by crazy elevation drops and also some really tight lies because it sits in a small valley. It's a fun and challenging course. You definitely have to know your distances here. Besides your distances and hitting from up high, you will also encounter trees and creeks. Everything is always pretty plush and well manicured from tee to green. I'd get a cart unless you're in tip top walking condition. It's just too much climbing and descending for me. It's a bit of a drive, but shouldn't be too hard to find since it's located right off the highway and also there really isn't much else out there. The time you spent getting out there will be worth it and it's not too expensive to top it all off. read more

This place is a great value even with the bit of a drive out of Portland. Course is cut through a valley, with almost every hole either teeing off way down to a fairway or green below, or having to play up a steep hillside to an elevated green. Do the smart thing and get a cart (especially during a hot day) because walking this ass-buster of a course in the heat is a fools move. They can get a little touchy about folks bringing in outside booze, but I suppose that's understandable given that some people have gotten all tanked up on their own supply and left to turn out onto highway 30 and gotten in really bad wrecks right out front of the course, so they like to be able to regulate who they are selling to and whether or not you have had too much to drink, which is actually really responsible of them. If I lived closer to this place, I would play it over any of the city courses in Portland any day. read more

Don't know what more you could want from a public, very reasonably priced, golf course. Wildwood has unique challenges for all skill levels, while still enjoyably playable at the 100+ level. I have played the course at least 20 times and still love coming back trying to solve its idiosyncratic holes. They run a very tight ship, and I have played many 18 hole rounds in under 3 hours, especially early in the day. Great deals if you can get entire groups to book before 8AM on a weekday. PUNISHES slices for the right handed, and hooks for the lefties; so I have found the course instrumental in my improvement over the years because I have been forced to learn to play to my weaknesses/strengths, or go through a 1/2 dozen balls each round. enjoy this golfing treasure early and often. read more

Tucked a bit far out past Sauvie Island is this little gem of a golf course. I'm not going to say I'm great at golf, in fact I suck but this place has the view, the place to relax and feel separated from the city, and is cheap! The only thing bad I can say about this place is there aren't a ton of trees so in the summer it can get quite hot! The course itself has a few streams running through some of the holes, a few par 5s, his hilly, but not a ton of sand traps. I love coming out here but it is for sure a trek if you live downtown. read more

Wildwood is a friendly and economical 18-hole golf course located out on Highway 30 towards Scappoose. Nestled in a forest valley, this course is characterized by many holes with elevated tees - starting on the very first hole which has a 30 foot elevated tee. This makes proper club selection critical as most of the par 3's require that the player club down two to three clubs. The course is well maintained for a public course and the greens roll as well as many of the more expensive courses around the Portland metro area. Undulating and quick greens keep the course challenging. At 5,756 yards from the tips, most middle handicaps and lower will play this course from the blue tees. However, dog-leg par 5's stop the big hitters from overpowering the course. It is a very hilly course, and although most tee boxes are a short walk from the previous green, I wouldn't recommend walking this course unless you are in good physical shape. A big plus is that the beverages here are very economical; for example, they only charge $1.50 for a Gatorade while they are $2.50 or more at other courses. Unfortunately there is no on-course beverage service - you must plan to refill at the pro shop at the turn. At $25 for a weekday 18-hole round, Wildwood is an excellent value that gives more expensive courses a run for the money. Say high to Abagail, the resident bulldog, for me! read more

Much more than that though, the ownership/management/staff is horrendous. I should have read the reviews before wasting my time and money at this place. The course is too crowded. They charge way too much. They've hired TSA to check my bag for beers I've brought onto the course illegally. These are all things you may have said about other courses! No, you would never use these phrases to describe Wildwood. I have been golfing at this course for a few years now. Located a nice 20 minute drive from downtown up highway 30, you'll find the best course in Portland. For starters, when it seems like every course in Portland is 40 or more to play, an 18 hole green fee is $28. It's a fantastic scenic course with some great views of the city. The course was in great shape last week. It was a little slow going because it was the first warm weekend day this year, but most people that venture out that far are only playing 9 holes anyway. When we hit the back nine, it was smooth sailing...and my beers were still cold. Seriously, it's a great course too. Challenging but playable. Well kept. Not too wide, not too narrow. Cool features. Definitely a must play if you live in Portland. read more

Greg W ., great review. Extremely well kept for the price point. It's a bit of a drive and a bit cave like in that you play almost in the hills or what seems like a gulley. So, you're mostly looking out at the same thing all the time...which, on a sunny day is Mt. Hood. So, the view's not bad. The tee/green height adjustment keeps it pretty entertaining. For how pretty the place is I suggest bringing your own food. They do have a food/drink cart and on a 100 degree day the ice-cream sandwich was great. read more

Good reviews. I usually play here 2+ times/month. I'll add that they DO have a drink cart on weekends at least during the peak season. The drink prices are very reasonable as previously added. Also, the 1st tee is more like 30-40 YARDS elevated, (I'm sure Greg W. meant yeards not feet). I like that everywhere is irrigated, you'll be hard pressed to find and hard-pan areas anywhere even during the hottest part of the summer. If you sign up for a preferred player card, (it's free, you just have to give your email address at the clubhouse), they email out specials a couple of times a month. Sometimes the specials are a great deal, other times just a couple of dollars off. If I had any criticisms they would be: Mid-afternoon tee times on weekends during the summer can take 5+ hours as it tends to back up, the marshals really don't do anything to encourage faster play. In the summer the greens tend to be littered with ball marks. I wish people would take the time to fix their marks. At Quail Valley the marshals drive from hole to hole and have a divot tool, ( https://www.doyle-golf.com/Green-Tools/Greenskeeper-P768C53.aspx ), and fix all marks, this keeps the greens in great shape. The maintenance crews don't fill & seed many divots in the fairway so by mid summer the usual landing spots are littered with divots. I have had a few run ins with grumpy clubhouse employees but not enough to establish a problem pattern. All in all this is great course, well worth the trip out. read more

I don't think for the price you can find a better course around. Always love playing this course with it's elevated tee's and speed of play. Not much waiting around since the Par 3's are mostly all elevated and easy to play fast. They re-did the clubhouse as well and it's very nice. Drains well too. read more
