This summer I developed a new water leak in my basement from a wall that previously was OK. Plus there was such a huge amount of rain and my sump pump could not keep up with the storm that hit. I called Quality First to give me a quote to extend my drains into another section of the basement and upgade to their triple safe sump pump. Todd came out and quoted everything and 2 weeks later the work was completed. Once again I thought they did a great job to extend drain coverage and upgrade my sump pump. I hired Quality 1st Basement Systems for two projects, one in 2012 at one house and a much larger one in Aug 2014 at another house. The first project involved the installation of two sump pumps and a small amount of water guard (perimeter drain). The second project was much larger, involving the installation of full perimeter drains, trench drain, large sump, CleanSpace (covers walls), and a crawl space overhaul. I'm very happy with the work. Nick B was very knowledgable, courteous, and there was no pressure. He focused on how the fix the problems rather than selling. When it came time to do the project, Juan G, the senior foreman, arrived on time and introduced himself right away. He kept me posted on progress throughout the day, and walked me through every part of the work at the end. A team of 5 guys completed the work in one day, working a 8-9 hrs. they said the small water leak in my basement (Brooklyn not SF) was due to outside water leakage--but it was the sewer backed up. Which led to much more yucky water all through the basement --a lot of money spent on getting water out--sewer drainage----the city even came to check the street --and today a clean-up crew. Great experience with Quality 1st Basement. We moved into a newly constructed home that, as it turns out, didn't put any basement drainage system in before finishing the basement. We found this out, naturally, the hard way. Spoke to a few basement waterproofing specialists, but none that offered start to finish, 100% of the services. No other sheet rock / painters required. Wilver and his team showed up on time both days, were very polite, respectful and answered all of our questions. Put in a french drain, cleaned up the mold, and put in a new sump pump with TRIPLE back up. And all of the work is guaranteed. Kyle, the project manager, also showed up when he said he would, and spent a ton of time going over every detail of our project and addressed any concerns we had. Q1 was definitely more expensive than some of the other people we spoke with, but none offered the full breadth of services and the ability to complete a full basement waterproofing in 2 days. I just wanted to share my terrible experience with this company.. I called in to get an estimate for a job I'm doing at a family friend's house. Given her husband has recently passed away I am handling all of the work around the house. I spoke to a rep, Marie who was extremely disrespectful and told me I needed to take my business elsewhere. I don't know what happened to the customer is always right? This company has to be the absolute worst company I have ever come across as a home owner. Once they have your money they don't care about the customer. I spent 10,000 for a system that makes no sense because there will always be moisture in my basement because the salesman Dan failed to tell me that for an additional 10,000 I needed their custom walls that fit into the drain they installed. The first crew was rude and refuse to work. Called mngr Juan and he was amused and rude with me. They had drains pitched the wrong way and water was accumulated in the system but had to have 2 crews and 3 supervisor come out before they worked and still put the drain in the same place. I would do more research before giving this company money. The system is trash and so are the staff. read more

This has been the worst company to deal with. 1. They did not submit the request for permits as agreed upon so the project was delayed about 2 months while my house was in total chaos as flooring and furniture was moved to other rooms to prepare for the work they were supposed to do. 3. They tried to blame be for their inefficiencies and I had to fight to get a credit for the cost of the permits. 4. When they finally got the permits 2 months later and opened my walls they determined that they could not do what we had agreed upon. 5. At this point the right thing to do would have been to apologize and compensate me for my time and emotional stress as well as bring my walls back to whole. 6. Instead of doing what was right for the customer money clearly motivated Kyle who convinced me that I would still benefit from the three pump system I believed him to be the expert so I took him at his word. 7. With all the rain we have had in NJ year to date the pump system has yet to turn. Quality 1st even came and opened up the pump after three days of rain and it was bone dry, and I have been totally scammed. 8. When I asked for an itemized bill it took asking 3 times for one to be delivered and it did not present a clear picture of the 10% discount on the original contract. 9. Now that I have finally gotten an itemized bill reflecting the discount 1 month and 10 days after initially requesting it, they have called me every day since for final payment, 10. In the interim I have had to invest an additional amount of money to get it done right. read more

Descent price and pretty fast work. It's the poor Mexican guys that worked their asses off. So far the system works as advertised. They keep calling to 'do a check up' or something. The walls still leak but they said that would be additional work/money after I had the system installed. read more

If I could give this company zero stars... I would! My husband and I had them come to our home to complete a waterproofing and bright wall system. The waterproofing system was done first and came out great! However, I can not say the same for the bright wall system. First and foremost, when the crew arrived to our home, my husband and I went to the basement to greet them and one of the crew members looked at my husband like he owed him money! He was rude and completely oblivious to the fact that he was in our home and refused to show common courtesy by greeting my husband and I. While they were putting the bright wall system up, my husband and I repeatedly visited the basement to check the progress, as well as, to make sure everything was to our standards (we wanted to make sure it was meticulous). To our surprise, the bright walls were completely uneven and looked like my 6 year old niece was cutting the pieces up and screwing them on the wall. We brought it to the attention of the supervisor whom I asked if they were planning to put trimming on it. Well, I can guarantee you that if we did not ask about the trimming, it would not have been done! Then, while they were finishing the system, we noticed that there were sections that were not screwed properly to the concrete and we also brought that to the attention of the supervisor. He told us that unfortunately that is how the system was and he couldn't do anything about it. My husband asked him, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT? All you have to do is add a screw here and here and became extremely upset. Needless to say, when the work was done, the basement was left a mess with dust, screws, and scraps all over the floor. We then had a supervisor come to our home to explain our concerns and he completely agreed with us. They will be sending someone else out to finish the work that should have been done in the first place! We will not be doing business with this company again or referring them to any family and friends! Quite honestly, I am surprised they remain in business if this is the type of work that is completed! read more

RUN from this company! I hired Quality First Basement Systems (QFBS) in May 2017 to waterproof my basement. I paid them $12,871 to fix a small puddle in the middle of the room where some old stabilizing jacks had weakened the cement floor. They placed a new sump pump (which burned out after just a few months), and some drains and new jacks. Their work failed inspection 3 times before their engineers decided to just change the written plans to match the work that they did so it would pass inspection. Over the next 14 MONTHS they had to come back again and again because they were not able to fix the problem and every time they tried to fix it the water got much worse. There was water coming in from other areas of the room where there was never water previously. Eventually the entire room was torn up and flooded. They even tried to blame the 2 inches of water on sweating pipes. Then they told me to replace a gutter, which I couldn't afford but I did. At one point, they admitted the drains had the wrong pitch. Now I have started to notice black mold. The drains they put in were causing the dirt foundation from an adjoining crawlspace to seep into the room where the "repairs" were being done. Before they started the work, that area was bone dry. Now it was a wet beach full of dirt and water. The room above the crawlspace (the kitchen) is now unstable and sinking. The purpose of the jacks is to stabilize and level the room above. That room above the jacks, is my dining room and it is far from level. The jacks also pushed up the pipes up that lead to my kitchen radiator, keeping the water from the furnace from getting to the radiator. As a result, I have no heat in that area of the house where all my water pipes are in danger of freezing. I filed a complaint with the BBB In Feb, 2018, but since QFBS kept promising to fix the problem, I believed them and dropped the complaint. QFBS has now told me that they are not coming back anymore and if I want my money back to take them to court. Which I intend to do. read more

My concrete sidewalks, driveway and patio were all suffering from varying degrees of deterioration. The concrete was uneven in spots (tripping hazards and rainwater pooling, including along one wal of the house foundation), but had minor cracking. I thought concrete leveling, rather than total replacement, was the right plan for the problem. I had seen the method of poly-injection on a home-improvement show, and did an internet search for local contractors. I called Quality 1st Basement Systems to come out for an estimate, and from the initial phone call, I was impressed by the company. An estimate appointment was set. I received an information package by Priority Mail in advance of the appointment which contained information on the PolyLevel process, the company and the Concrete Repair Specialist who would be doing the estimate. After discussing the problem with the specialist, and reviewing his plan, I felt confident in choosing the company and signing the contract. The installation was scheduled and the crew arrived promptly on the given date. I had been reminded a day in advance of the installation, and the crew called me when they were 40 minutes away from arriving. The foreman went over the plan as had been designed, and they got to work. When they were finished, we went over what was done. My property was left in absolutely clean condition, and I am extremely satisfied with the results. My thanks to all at Quality 1st, including Service Coordinator Kimberly, Repair Specialist Andrew, and Eder and William of the installation crew. read more

Avoid at all costs! I'd give less stars if I could. I had contracted Q1 to do repair/waterproofing work on my foundation. Because the foundation is on the lot line, we needed a license from the neighboring property. The license gave them 9 months to pull permits and get in and do the work. They bungled it and were late in getting the permits let alone doing the work. We had to renegotiate the license which cost me real $ and time. OK, so we get a new license in place Q1 gives a date 4 months off when they can get in. No problems. As the date draws near, we follow-up with them to make sure that all is on track and receive no response not from the sales person, Jeff Nero, not from the GM all of which we contacted personally via both phone and email. We tried calling the scheduler and got "oh he's not in, call back after 4:30". We call back at 4:35 and the office is closed/no one answers the phone. I got the same run around trying to call Bob Cherry, the GM, as well: "He's out this week, he'll be back Monday", call Monday and get "He's out this week." The only communication we get is from the expediter who only says that Q1 changed the architect on the job and that they have to pull new permits. Ok, so we're hustling with the outside expediter Q1 hired to pull new permits quickly. We hear from the expediter that permits are supposed to come out Monday afternoon... the same day that Q1 was supposed to start the job. Still no coherent or meaningful response from Q1. We check with the expediter Tuesday morning what's going on and they let us know what Q1 has put a hold on all paperwork. Eventually, later in the week they were supposed to start the job, we get a note from Bob Cherry, Q1's GM, letting us know that both they and their original engineer are under review from the NYC DOB and can not perform work in New York City and as a result are refunding our deposit. Our interaction with them cost us real money and time and provided no solution. Over a year of time and several thousands of dollars and not so much as an apology or a referral to an alternate provider. My foundation still needs to be fixed. read more

Quality 1st Basement Systems did a great job with the installation of a sump pump in my house. The book provided with their estimate was very informative and their salesman John Schweitzer was very knowledgeable and professional. The company's quote for the work was comparable to another quote I received. I chose the company because I felt confident that the hardware they would install would be the best available. The installation, led by Wilver Cardoza, went quickly and smoothly. They did a great job of containing the dust with tarps and plastic covering. The work looks extremely professional. The hardware installed was exactly what i expected based on the book and quote. My only gripe with the whole install was that I think the wet/dry vac they used for clean up distributed more dust than it picked up. Very satisfied customer. read more

We wanted to get some gutters further away from the house and water seal two crawl spaces in the basement. We didn't a specific water leak problem, but we wanted to strengthen the defenses since we were aware of a past minor water incident disclosed by the previous owner. After getting a quote from a general contractor, we called Basement Systems. Jeff Nero was the project estimator who came to look at our job. In addition to our requests, he recommended replacing two really old basement windows with their SunHouse enclosures, which was something we never saw before. After I requested a minor scope change, the quote came in a few hundred dollars less than the contractor, who hadn't planned on replacing the windows. It rained on the day of the scheduled work, but Basement Systems crew came anyway and arrived 20 minutes early. They covered the work area and walking areas, so they wouldn't walk in with dirt, mud, or concrete. One guy worked in the basement while the other guy dealt with the gutter extensions. It rained through what seemed like most of the job, so it was a real-time test of their products and work. Their products and workmanship held up and are still holding up after several thunderstorms. Their SunHome enclosures did bring additional light into the basement. I would give them 4.5 stars but Yelp doesn't allow half-points. Why am I giving them a demerit? As part of their gutter extension work, they buried two drainage pipes. One of them was buried, but the dirt on top was not flattened properly. You can see a line of slightly raised dirt where the work was done. We did not see this until the next day. I did not contact them about this as the pipe is buried as intended but this was the one blemish in their otherwise excellent work. They are still recommended. read more

We signed a contract with Quality First.  It then took several weeks for the Project Manager to visit our house, take measurements, and discuss the project's final plan.  This visit happened after he had to wrong date in his calendar, which required me to burn one-half of a personal day.  This was the first inkling that something was amiss.  We then ensured long periods of slience from the Project Manager, who was new to the company. He was unresponsive, and in those few times he did respond, he did so with half-truths and flat-out lies.  For example, he informed us that the delay was due to the municipality's construction office's inability to review the plans in timely manner.  I called the office to check on this and they had no record of plans or permits being submitted.  I then kept pressing for a start date--this was nearly four months after the initial meeting with the sales representative--and was not given one.  This was the second major flag.  The final flag was when the Project Manager did not respond to my texts, phone calls, or emails.  When he did get back to me, it was to inform me that it would be another two months before they could start the job.  A number of excuses were offered--personnel turnover, manufacturing delays, backlog of jobs, etc.  As legitimate as these reasons may be, there is no excuse to lie and keep in contact with the client.  I am glad that we decided to not go forward with Quality First.  The whole process cost us six months of time and loads of frustration.  Don't fall for the fancy website or slick sales pitch. When it came time to get the job done, they failed.  And left me and my family hanging in the balance without offering the opportunity to make it right.  Awful.  Just plain awful. read more

I had them do a relativity small job fixing a small leak by using plastic wall covering that moves the small leak (only with heavy rains) into a drain which goes into a sump pump. The salesman was very knowledgeable and I was impressed with his ideas and his goal of keeping this as low cost- but effective - as possible. Another company that came didn't come up with this effective., low cost approach and was talking about major work, When I suggested the idea Quality 1st gave, he said, "yes that would work" But the point is he didn't even bring up that option with plastic wall covering. And the installers from Quality were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I had Quality back to do a minor fix and they were great about getting someone here to do it. read more

I had push piers installed to stop the foundation and cosmetic cracks in the interior wall and the exterior bricks from cracking with Quality 1st Basement in 9/2013. Right away after the foundation was repaired we repaired all the crack walls inside the house and the exterior brick walls. In 2014 we noticed small hairline cracks returning. The cracked meter showed signs of movement as well. We reported all the issues to Quality first and even sent them pictures. Their project monitor, Bob said they will monitor the movements of the house every 3 mths. They came the first 3 time but each time they came, there is something missing b/c they forgot to bring the right "bucket" to measure the movement with the light beam. The one time that they did follow up on the measurements, the foremen, Jonathan said there is movement in the basement foundation wall. I continue to make appointments with their assistant Kimberly in 6 mths increment but afterwards they just become no shows to the appointment even though I specifically told them to call me when they need to cancel as we have to take off work to let them come into the house to do the measurements. I was so frustrated by the lack of responsibility and accountability shown by Quality 1st basement. Finally I got the CEO of the company into the picture and I thought I would finally get the problem resolved. I told him to bring an engineer in to see what was the cause of the problems and that was done on 4/25/16. His engineer did not spoke a word when he came and I question if he was a real engineer as he had no opinion about what could cause the house to continue to have movements. It is now 2/2017, over 3 years later and the crack meter continues to show increasing cracks in the foundation. The cracks are so apparent even to the naked eyes; we don't even need a crack meter at this point. The foundation is still moving, cracks in the foundation continue to enlarge and this is causing cosmetic damages to my new brick wall again. I had email him several times and there was no response for the last 9 mths. Finally I was able to reach the CEO and he now wants to reseal my foundation crack and reset my crack meter without any other solution to fix the problem. He said that his guys did not fix the foundation correctly. I mean really??? And now he thinks that he can squirt some glue in there so it will be close for a few months before I start complaining again. The fact is that the push piers do not work and it did not create enough resistance to stop the movement of the foundation. My original problem of cracks appearing in my bricks and walls continues to occur because the foundation problem is not fixed as promised by the push piers and by Quality1st basement's salesman Kevin. I told the CEO Bob that they need to have a plan to fix this problem or he needs to return my money. He refuses to return my money and refuses to come to the house to monitor the movement. It is a huge battle to reach them and try getting them to come and look at the house each time. I want to work with them in good faith to come up with a solution but this company refuses to do so. No one in the company is taking this problem seriously or showing any accountability. I am urging all homeowners to beware of this company before you hire them. It will be like flushing your money down the toilet plus the added aggravation on trying to reach someone in the company to take accountability on the job they have done unsuccessfully. Quality 1st offered a complete solution for my damp townhouse basement that was affordable and is working well. The salesperson was knowledgeable and never pressured me into any decision. The price was fair, and the work was done quickly and neatly. I had a crawlspace partially excavated and encapsulated in plastic, a sump pump installed, and an industrial-size dehumidifier installed. Combined, these fixes have brought down the humidity level from "tropical rain forest" to comfortable. It's allowed me to get my mold condition under control. The installers were also very clean. They wrapped my whole basement in plastic and cleaned up any mess they made. read more

I thought maybe this company would be just like any other contrator although they did present themselves nicely to explain what needed to be done. A team of 4 guys came including an awesome foreman. The foreman explained each step during the entire process which I thought that was nice. The job was perfect. They even cleaned up after themselves! I was very impressed with this company. Funny, I heard their advertisement on Star 99.1 I figured if this station would let them advertise then they have to be good. I was referred to this company from a friend. I had a french drain installed around my house. Everything seemed to be fine until the rain came.....they put a drain 10 feet from my house into my backyard so whenever it rained by backyard was a swamp. I called them back and explain what was happening. They didn't want to hear a thing. They told me I signed the contact and knew what they were doing. Did I??? Would someone sign a contact that reads when it rains the water is going to be in your yard and you will have nothing but a pool of swammpy water. This company is a JOKE!!! I had to pay $1,000 to have this fix after paying $5,000 for the drain. Stay away from this company. read more

They might have the best product (I'm not licensed to judge), they might even come in at the best price point (depending on options etc), but I will pay more money to avoid this company. 1) When I set up my appointment the first time they had available was in almost 3 weeks (during the day, so I had to take time from work/ go in late). 2) They required me to confirm my appointment multiple times in different ways. 3) The estimator/salesman quizzed me on the information packet they sent (the packet was helpful) and despite answering all the questions correctly, proceeded to go through his prepared explanations of things I had already answered. 4) The estimator/salesman was very off-putting in his attempt to get me to buy into the system for my wife's sake: "What does your wife think about the state of the basement?" "She doesn't come down here that much." "Then who does the laundry? You!?" (Yes, yes I do, and none of your damn business.) 5) The estimator/salesman was very off-putting in his attempt to buy into a dehumidifier. "Does anyone who lives here have allergies?" "No." "Do you have kids?" "No." "Is your wife pregnant?" (A question you never ask anyone, even if you know them!) I understand the value of the product, attempting to appeal to emotion just suggests you have difficulty with straight talk. 6) The estimator/salesman gave me a price finally and said he was going to give me his "sign right now price" (a tactic they state in the other book is "a dirty trick" and "Inconsistent Pricing ... is a lie to manipulate you to buy now before you can think about a better decision.") 7) When I set my original appointment I said I'd like an estimate for the waterproofing and finishing, after a tedious hour and ten minutes with the guy, and he finally gives me a price, he says that an estimate for finishing is a different appointment. I said, you have my measurements, can't you give me an estimate based on that. He said that he has to bring other samples to show me. All their products are in the book they sent and on their website, but they refuse to give you a number unless they waste a significant amount of your time first. We got two other estimates, the other companies were definitely better at arranging appointments, interacting with customers and giving estimates. read more

I had Quality 1st Basement Systems come in and do a major waterproofing job at my house in Queens this week. They showed up on time, finished the work in less than a day, cleaned up after themselves (they left it spotless) and transformed our basement. I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs during the difficult winter months. Even the smell of the basement is significantly better, not only due to the work they did but because of the dehumidifying system they installed. I'm a very satisfied customer. I had a hot water heater ring and drain installed. Nice job by the crew lead by Jesus Alvarez. Very neat....they put up plastic to limit any dust to the work area. Cleaned up all debris and some my basement debris as well! It was a difficult job to connect the drain to a sump pit under the stairs but appears to be a very thorough job. read more

Quality First does NOT take care of their customers!!!! The installed a system in our home a few months ago. We noticed that the water was pooling on our front lawn. When I called the salesman, he cut me off and said to call his service department. I was upset and shocked with the new attitude but I guess that's what happens once the deal is booked and his commission is made. The service department sent someone down who ended up raising the pump and drilling holes into the drainage pipe to hopefully stop this problem. Problem did not go away. Called salesman again who said to call the service dept. The guy starts telling me he can send down a guy to "give me a quote" to fix the problem. I argued that we expect a system that's installed properly and I'm not looking for a "quote". The conversation then turns confrontational as he pulls out the contract (obviously he does this all the time) and quotes some standard verbiage that basically releases them from all obligations. The salesguy, Ken calls and tells me today that I'm a "very confrontational person" when I argued that this is not the way to do business. He was so condescending, it was disgusting!!! Now I'm waiting for someone to come down to see if he needs to give me a "quote". I've heard from others that once they have your money they don't care, but I honestly didn't believe it since the salesguy seemed so upstanding. I should have listened! read more
