Custom Concepts Construction (CCC) did two major jobs for us in late 2025, mostly involving…read morereplacing wood with James Hardie fiber-cement materials, other carpentry work, and gutters. We are extremely pleased with their work. We chose CCC for three reasons: 1. They are Elite Preferred James Hardie installers who carefully follow the Hardie standards of installation. 2. The co-owners and lead carpenter are experienced with all aspects of residential carpentry, having built homes and additions in the past. 3. The co-owner in charge of sales, Michael Swank, gave authoritative, unpressured advice and presented a masterfully written, detailed proposal with a detailed description and all charges. The price of their proposal was similar to, or lower than, those we received from other exterior contractors. One of our jobs was to replace all wood siding and trim with Hardie siding, trim, and panels on two three-story towers. I expected some difficulties with scaffolding over a stairwell, but the lead carpenter Kerdy and his assistants did the job masterfully, resulting in carefully executed, beautiful results. The second job was to renovate our 100-year-old garage by not only replacing sheathing, siding, and trim but also installing new interior wood beams (rafter ties and collar ties) and additional studs recommended by an engineer to stabilize the sagging garage framing structure. They skillfully manipulated the framing to straighten out the rear garage wall and front central post, which were bowing outward, as well as to straighten out the sagging ridge. During this process they erected temporary support posts inside the garage. We were glad to have hired a team who knew what they were doing with framing as well as exteriors. They also installed a new Pella window and figured out how to do the problematic moving of our shed next to the garage. Their subcontractor competently replaced all of our gutters and downspouts with larger ones. The project manager Daniel Harper, a co-owner of the company, directed the carpenters, handled the logistics of the job, and ensured the high quality of the finished product. We found CCC to be a well-organized and responsive small firm that is easy to communicate with. It was a particular pleasure to interact with Kerdy, the lead carpenter, who always provided clear and polite explanations. Billing was expertly handled by Katherine, who took our credit card payments without charging a fee. In summary, we highly recommend this company for exterior work!

I obtained six different estimates. I selected Ascension Home Contractors because this was a local company and I was impressed with the great reviews. The estimate was thorough and Jimmy took time to explain everything involved. Jimmy went above and beyond on this bathroom renovation. The tile work was excellent, as was the installation of the tub. I special ordered a cast iron tub which Jimmy and his team picked up and delivered. The bathroom was renovated three months ago. Since that time, I've had different people visit the house and I shared pictures of the bathroom online and everyone was super impressed. Ascension did a terrific job with the bathroom remodel and even went above and beyond to fix a few other things. They also installed a new window to the bathroom and it looks great. I took bids for the contract for my rental property and invited Ascensions to participate. I had got as many as 6 bids. I had a couple bids that was just so low that I had to consider that sometimes going cheap isn't the correct way because I had a deadline and had to have good quality of work to get my house on the market with a good price. So I decided to not take the gamble and go cheap and slow. So I decided to go with Ascension for a couple of reasons. One reason is because I had a good customer service experience with Ascension Home Contractors before. The confusion was on how the tiles was to be laid on the Salon floor with stencils or not. Well after half the ceramic floor was already set and pasted on the 1200 sqft. floor. It didn't look like the way I wanted. So I told Jimmy the owner that I didn't like it. Without an augment as I expected from many. Jimmy gathered his team the next day and picked up about 600 sqft. ceramic tile and reinstalled it the way I wanted. The second reason is that Ascension is like a one stop shop. They do everything. They will project management for you so you do not have to stress and find other contractors. If you need junk removal, house cleaning, tree cutting, or anything related. Ascensions have the resources to get the job done the right way and fast. Yeah I paid more of the top end for Ascension but I had peace of mind and got the job done the right way with out the worry that someone may do a bad job or run off with my money. I had a few Handymen that does work that was not insured or licensed. So be careful about that. Those are the people that may not have a big team but will give you a lower price and you will just have to take a gamble with. Ascensions is License and Insured and it is a reason why you have to pay a premium when you want good work done with good customer service. So this is why I would recommend Ascensions Home Contractors for your home or business. Also Jimmy the owner is very knowledgeable and will inherit your project as if it is were his own and make the right recommendations for your goals.

Upon scheduling our first meeting with the owner John O'Sick he was able to give us a rough estimate of how much all of the work would be. He worked with our budget and was very honest about prioritizing the projects and we appreciated that. Speaking of budget, we also appreciated that John would always have a full range of options available for us to decide upon, not only in product selection but also with unanticipated repairs needed (our home is over 100 years old). John was in constant contact with all of the utility companies, as well as DCRA, ensuring that we had all of the permits and any other paperwork required. It was very reassuring to know that a contractor takes the time and initiative and really wants the best for you and your project. John is extremely easy to be in communication with, his staff is honest, hardworking and skilled - all things that I think are important to anyone taking on a project, big or small. It's an old house, with a tight space, and an endless amount of obstacles to overcome in order to pull it off. We interviewed about 6 contractors and collected a number of quotes. A few contractors were not up to the task, while a few came back with either extraordinarily high or absurdly low quotes- and all of them had wonky solutions that seemed impractical. Then came Dominic. Dominic came in with a creative mind. His experience and expertise allowed him to problem solve and come up with a fantastic solution that met all of our needs, and more wants that we could've hoped for. Even more, his quote made sense. He wasn't the cheapest, or the most expensive, but he was fair. Due to a medical issue, there was a massive delay on our end getting started, yet Dominic remained flexible. Once we were finally underway, I was floored at how quickly he and his team worked. They showed up every day, on time, and worked precisely and efficiently. We were dreading having people in our home for several weeks, but his team was lovely to have around! They were polite, kind, helpful, and most importantly, skilled. I was working on several side projects (painting, refinishing cabinets, etc) and they always jumped in to help if they saw me struggling to carry something or lift something heavy. Every day they left the space cleaner than they found it. Not only are they skilled, it is clear they have an incredible work ethic and are just kind people. During the project, we wanted to change the scope a few times by adding in some flooring and a few other things that shifted the project a bit. Once again, Dominic remained flexible. He was there to offer advice- both in helping us stay within budget, while not compromising quality. And despite expanding the scope mid-project, he and his team only needed a few additional days to complete those requests. I've never hired a contractor for this scale of project before and I've heard all of the nightmares about poor quality work, lack of communication, surprise project fees, and delays in completion. We experience none of that with Top Notch Contractors. Dominic and his team delivered everything they promised and more. There were no billing surprises at the end of the project and even though we were satisfied with everything, he and his team were still touching up little things as they were walking out of the door. If you're looking for the Goldilocks of contractors- one who is skilled, fairly priced, and delivers on their promises, you can't go wrong with Dominic at Top Notch Contractors. My father now has a safe & beautiful space and we could not be more grateful.

Ended up Really Beautiful and surprisingly fast, but I got stressed all along the way - Not really…read moreOld Bay Remodeling's fault, but I get stressed out for silly things and feels much better when things are completed. 1. Materials!!! - After the Job was sold, I was contacted by the office saying they do it a bit differently from other contractors. They purchase all materials up front. As a customer, you get the option to have it delivered on your yard or into their warehouse. The idea was this way, they do not have to stop for buying materials. I did a little research and quickly understood the materials and shipments were delayed and is causing a lot of disruption in the construction industry. Well - it is a good idea to have everything before we start work. I was right and wrong. Old Bay moved in record pace to get a 550 sqft addition completed in 7 weeks. But I lot my 1/2 acre backyard to materials - lumber, nails, siding, roofing materials for 2 months. The lawn was damaged from materials being on the grass for too long. Old Bay agreed to come back and reseed the lawn, so I'll give it a pass on that. There were literally 150 bags of concrete lying outside in 2 storms and I lost my sleep. Ended up that it was covered and protected properly. But I got so stressed out! If anyone is reading this, ask them to store materials in their warehouse and bring it when required. 2. Installers - Old bay had the same crew do the job from start to finish. They only had electric, ac and plumbing guys do their separate jobs. Apart from that - starting at demo, digging, pavers, carpentry, roof, windows, even painting done by the same 4 guys. I don't know how they did it, but they pulled it off. In my line of work, I do the same thing and become an expert at it. I was stressed out again and I hired a third party home inspector to make sure everything was done correctly. Very surprised the inspector also mentioned this is very unusual, but the job quality was up highly recommended. Howard County inspector was also surprised by the pace of things. He has inspected other work from Old Bay and said he has seen them drop off tons of materials in the yard before. 3. Rough Start and Payments - Not sure if this is a problem to anyone else, but we had to pay for all out materials up front. Old Bay promptly delivered the materials to our house and it came from a bunch of vendors. But paying all materials up front on a huge project like this runs into tens of thousands of dollars. Old Bay also sent many people to look at the job - there was an engineer, multiple plumbers, electricians etc. I guess they got many bids from their sub contractors. But I was not a big fan of 10 people visiting my house during the pandemic - They all had masks etc, but just too many people in the house. I called the office about this and I was told they do all the work in the beginning and when they get going, they will move fast. Another reason for me to stress out in the beginning, but was happy at the end. 4. Communication - It was very hard to reach the office and the project manager. Maybe I ask too many questions - I don't know. But when the job started, I would receive 2 calls every week from the office. Would casually check in, give me a run down of what is going to happen next week, ask if I had any questions etc. That was very helpful. It would be very nice to get these calls before the job starts. I am submitting this review so that the people can understand what is good and bad about this contractor.

And it can be especially difficult for me because I'm a stickler for design that's both beautiful and functional while adding resell value (my mom's a realtor and I love HGTV! Lol). This is precisely why I really enjoyed working with Jerome from the Old Bay Remodeling team. Jerome is a realtor and I loved that he brought that extra expertise to our bathroom remodeling project. He reiterated with me how bathrooms and kitchens can really make the difference for buyers and helped steer me in the right direction on a few choices. Once the project manager took over, things moved quickly. Even quicker than I expected to be honest. So, I made sure to keep up the communication with the staff. This was fairly easy to do because I got all of the details of what I wanted in writing before any of the work began. They were extremely receptive and responsive (I asked A LOT of questions) to this. And that ultimately made a huge difference for me. At the end of the day, service is everything.
