We were on the road headed home from Yellowstone and it was getting late so we started looking for a place to stay with our pup. It's late June and tourist season so any hotel on 90 in South Dakota during tourist season is absolutely ridiculously priced. Even for the lowest rated hotel. We were still west of Mitchell when we started looking. I wasn't going to pay between $250 and $300 for a subpar hotel just because they want to screw the tourist. Anyway, we found the Quality Inn & Suites South in Sioux Falls. The room was $79 and $20 for our dog. I looked at the reviews and was nervous but I also looked at the dates of the bad reviews. They are all several years old. When we arrived, the gentlemen at the desk was very nice and got us checked in right away. The breakfast area was right there and looked very clean. We of course got a pet friendly room. When we walked in, you can tell it was deodorized but you couldn't smell dogs. Now our pup knew there were dogs in there before but we didn't. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very clean. The beds were comfortable. We have no complaints. And yes, we always check the beds for bugs even before we bring our luggage in. We even check in the higher end places when we have the opportunity to stay in those. They use metal bed frames with no box spring and the mattresses are in those bags to help keep the mattresses clean and bug free. Breakfast on a Monday morning had eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, bagels, white and wheat bread, blueberry muffins, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt and juices and coffee. Our stay was nice. I would not hesitate to stay here again if we're passing through. We stayed the night of June 21, 2026. Don't look at those old reviews. This place is better than what they said years ago. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Worst hotel experience ever! Dirty carpet, stained couch, stained pillows, toilets that don't flush, dried mucous on the already dingy and dirty shower curtain, dirty bathrooms, smoke smell, and non-air conditioned (in summer) hallways as you walk-in. Not to mention rude and aggressive staff!!!! It is surrounded by lots of construction and in a sketchy area. It was so bad we chose to leave at 10:00pm and drive 3 hours to our own home than stay at this unsanitary "hotel". read more

My wife stayed overnight at this property after spending a week with her mother on a bus tour. She arrived at the property around 8 pm local time and got into her room. Little did she realize that the hotel had not turned on the electric heat for the season yet and she woke up to a 50 degree room temp. The front desk manager told her she should have been able to find the switch to turn the electric heat on, so it was now her fault. She has stage 4 cancer and really cannot afford to get pneumonia or any other upper respiratory illness, adding to the frustration. This is the second time we have stayed at this property and have had issues. We stay at Choice properties on a regular basis (I'm diamond status, FWIW), but I've only had one other property worse than this. Not recommended. read more

For a 2.5 rank star hotel chain, this one is more like a 3 to 3.5. We stayed here one night while in town and I was impressed with the service and rooms for the price. The front desk was organized and we were checked in quickly. The facility had continental breakfast (some hot items) and the rooms were clean and without issue. I liked the close proximity to the mall and also the interstate. Pets can stay here for $10 per night, which I love. They said many other Qaulity Inns offer this same policy. Pulled off the highway to get some sleep. Saw the sign and didnt give much thought to the police cars driving slowly in front of me as I pulled in. $75 a night was about $25 too much as it turns out. I was told to park at the far end of the motel and walk in that way to my 2nd floor room. A big truck was partially blocking that door but managed to get in. Walked all the way back to the lobby to find the stairs going up to the room that was eight above the main entrance. There was no elevator, which would not have been an issue aside from the load I had to carry in because I didnt want to leave it in the back of the truck. Why they sent me down to the end of the property to walk all the way back to the lobby I dont know. I could have walked in the front door , turned right and been at the stairwell. I did manage to get some sleep between the police sirens and maybe one SWAT event that went on several times. Breakfast consisted of pastries, powdered eggs, brown bananas, biscuits, gravy and cereal. I did have a scoop of the eggs, they were sufficient. I should have known to try elsewhere when I saw 2 cop cars near the entrance as I pulled in. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE EVER. Joel at the front desk was INCREDIBLY RUDE, he cancelled our reservation without consulting us, charged us for it anyway, he raised his voice at us, called us names, and PHYSICALLY CHASED US OUT OF THE HOTEL, he repeatedly hung up the phone on both myself and his corporate office after trying to seek a resolution to our problem. I arrived at the hotel at 3:30 to check in when I was informed that I was mistaken and the hotel check in policy was 21+ and not 18+, and I needed to have someone over 21 to check in with me. I am a Choice employee and so I called Choice corporate to see if there was any way an exception could be made, there was not. No big deal, I had family coming from another direction that was over 21 so I told Joel that I would be back at 10 with someone over 21 to check in with me. Problem solved, right? Wrong. We arrived just after 10 to discover that Joel had cancelled our reservations, and charged my card 250 dollars. When asked why, he said he "wasn't sure we were coming" even though I directly told him when we would be back, and it plainly states on the website that all rooms are reserved until 7am the day following the arrival date. Joel then proceeded to repeatedly interrupt us and refused to provide any remedy's to the situation. We asked to speak to a manager and he refused, at which point I think he was upset that we were talking about "snitching" on him (for being a horrible customer service worker, might I add), so he raised his voice and began yelling at us, we chose to leave and go find somewhere else to stay and he followed us out of the hotel and screamed at us in the parking lot. read more

This is a poor-quality hotel. The owner-family lives on the first floor and there was a wafting smell of their dinner. The children of the owners work there. The owners asked invasive questions at check-in. The room had old furniture and was in disrepair. We were not given extra towels when we asked for them. The hallways were not freshly vacuumed. It did not feel safe, as there were construction workers coming in and out and loud noise from adjoining rooms. The shower never got hot enough to take a shower. I would avoid this hotel. read more

Don't waste your money! Charged $80 deposit for my dog which they never returned. My dog didn't do any damage. The app said it would cost $94 but it was more like $150 with dog + rollaway bed (not counting the $80 deposit), ended costing me $230, nowhere near $94. The front door was locked after midnight since they're short on staff. This should have been my warning that the room would not be quality. There were stains on the bed covers, stains on the sheets, stains on the window & shower curtains. The carpet was dirty. The only part I liked was the shower head. Pressure & temperature were good. Breakfast was poor, stale bread & bagels, junk cereal, and only strawberry flavored yogurt. The waffles were good if you like that sort of thing and the coffee wasn't terrible. read more

We stayed for 3 nights. Sketchy people, older run down hotel. We have 2 dogs and were charged extra for them to clean up dog hair. They charge for stains that were not there when we left the room claiming cleaning fees. We've been charged just under $1000 in between room and additional fees and charges. They think video and pics are automatic guilt and refuse to work with us. Complaint has been filed with the attorney general and health dept. In review of bad reviews they respond very rudely and very unprofessional. We were given a smoking room when we have documentation for non smoking room. Dont recommend at all.. read more

The good news - the staff of the hotel were very friendly and professional. The rest - the upstairs hallway and our room smelled very strongly of old cigarette smoke. To the extent that we will need to wash all our clothes at our next stop to hopefully get the smell out. No suitcase stands available. Not in our room, not at the front desk. Don't know if any rooms have them. Breakfast was mostly the usual choice hotels options. Except this one, instead of the traditional breakfast sausage or bacon provided a mystery-meat. It looked like they had steamed salami slices. The taste was not something easily identified. And finally, my pet peeve with too many of the choice hotel - the room safe! Yet another hotel that will quietly charge you an extra dollar per night for the safe in your room UNLESS you inform them at checkout that you did not use it. Is a dollar a day a lot of money? No of course not. But it's one more hidden charge that the owner tacks on, hoping you won't notice. If the hotel is more than a year old you know that safe has already paid for itself. Pulled in after a 4 hour drive to hopefully check in 1 hour early. Not happening, we were advised that we could not check in till 2:45pm. We were also informed that the hotel received no money from us, that a third party received our money. And that they were going to tie up $100 bucks on our credit card for incidentals. The male upon check in was without a doubt, the rudest hotel clerk I have ever encountered in my 60 years frequenting hotels. The room... very out dated and obviously this hotel is underfunded. Torn bedsheets, blood stained comforter, broken RV remote. The pool, so cold my kids wanted nothing to do with it( the main reason we chose this hotel) and the hot tub was too hot to step foot in. The free breakfast...orange juice out of order, bread at least a day old if not older, waffles ok. No yogurt, no fruit, a single gallon of milk in the fridge? Upon check out we encountered the wife of the operation. She seemed quite friendly and should offer some lessons in hospitality to her male counterpart who is scaring away the customers. When I reserved the room it didn't give a smoke free option and the fine print says they will select your room based in availability. So once we walked into the room my boyfriend and I were disgusted by the smell. The shower curtain has mildew on the bottom and needs to be changed. We've stayed at cheaper hotels for far better quality. I will definitely be moving them higher up on my list than this hotel. The gentleman I spoke to before booking online said hotel was 5 minutes from I90 and it was closer to 10 minutes. (but easy drive) Both my wife and I found the mattress to be softer than the usual Quality Inn mattress. Also the breakfast option of eggs and Taylor ham were not good. They had other options like waffles and more. The room was clean. Good location with several places to eat close by. We didn't get in until after midnight so we only slept and didn't experience the pool, hot tub, or other amenities, but we had a great night's sleep in a cheap (85$), clean room! Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was very clean as well. We usually stay at Hilton hotels, but I would consider staying in Quality Inns more often if I could guarantee it was as nice as this one! The gentleman working the midnight shift was pleasant, helpful, and alert. One point to mention to travelers-this hotel is in Sioux Falls South, about 7 miles south of I-80 on 29S. Horrible, this place deserves a negative star rating. My husband, my dogs, and I checked in late at 1:30 a.m. Upon, entering the hallway and the room it smelled of smoke. We reserved a non-smoking room via the choice hotel app. Also, they charged both my credit card and my debit card. The bed sheets and pillow cases had yellow stains and dried puke on them. There was also no smoke alarm. I had to wait 5 minutes after I rang the buzzer for the clerk to come out and get me new sheets and a pillow case. She apologized and was polite. Since we arrived late, I put the do not disturb sign on the door. Around 8 a.m. the house keeper slammed her cart into my door causing my dogs to bark and waking us up. Then as we were preparing to leave my dogs barked at the house keeper and she reported that they tried to attack her. This was not the case. I discussed it with what was suppose to be the manager. I had to remind her to credit my debit card. Then, as we were driving an hour away I received a text from my credit card stating that we were charged an extra $200. When my husband called back to discuss the situation, the manager tried to claim that my dogs stained her room using very inappropriate words for urinate and defecate. This room was disgusting before we even enter it. If it had not been 1:30 a.m. I would have stayed elsewhere. Do Not Stay Here! I wish I had seen the other reviews before booking here. read more

I would give a half star if I could. Booked this via an app. Expectations did not live up to reality. Check in, though we had a paid reservation, took at least 20 minutes. We eventually finished the process in longhand as the computer wasn't loading their program. The hallways and the lobby smell very strongly of cigarette smoke, though fortunately the room does not. Hall doorway did not close and lock; key access pad is torn off on the exterior of the building. The bathroom is smaller than the one in our RV. At least the wifi works. read more

Positively the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. Got in, the plunger in the sink wouldn't lift (meaning when it was used the sink would just fill up with water), one of the lamps in the room was completely dead, and even the clock on the bedside stand wasn't working! They wouldn't even try to call maintenance. Corporate customer service was likewise unhelpful. But because we were on the phone with customer service for so long, they wouldn't let us off the hook for the room when we told them we were leaving to go to another hotel. I just checked out of the hotel. We Checked In on July 22nd! When we got there it was the only room available anywhere within 50 mile radius! Also the most expensive room! I asked if this was non smoking room they said yes. When we got to the room one of the bed frames was broken! The room was very smoky my daughter and I are allergic and two hours after checking out we are still coughing! The bed sheets looks like they have never been washed! They were black with hair on them. The TV was broken, the tub had black junk in it I had to wipe and clean it myself! We were stuck so had no choice but to stay there. On check out the girl said the best she can do was deduct 30 which was still more expensive than everyone that was checking out as I was standing there! When I asked to speak to the manager he was magically out of town! This is ridiculous!!! Room 223 don't stay there or actually at hotel at all! When we walked in, the staff seemed nice. Our room was spotless, the bathrooms were to, and we got a good night's sleep. The breakfast was good, with all the essentials.The staff was very nice beyond the front desk. Great pool was a plus. Overall for $88, (+$10 for a pet, not that bad), this place was pretty good. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights, and it was very nice for the price ($60-70 per night). The staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms were clean, and they have a small pool and a hot tub with jets (although they didn't make bubbles), and breakfast including cereal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, breads, DIY waffles, as well as eggs and ham or sausage (depending on the day). The internet wasn't fast but worked consistently. The TV seemed to have many channels, though I didn't use it much. They also have coffee and tea available all the time, and a microwave in the breakfast room. There are no fridges in the room, but this wasn't a problem for us. read more

But on our way to our room...the hallways wreaked of smoke!! It seeped its way into our room by morning...ugh! The shower curtain was mildewy. The rest of the room was rather clean. Beds were okay -- a bit saggy in the middle. At 11 at night, I could all too clearly hear the TV in the room next door. That was irritating. We were excited to have a pool for our kids...but there was some sort of party going on and those guests had kinda taken over. Pool area was just okay. Water was foggy and didn't look clean. In the morning, the breakfast host was friendly and breakfast was great -- it was hot, fresh and lots of options -- cereal, waffles, eggs, sausage, yogurt, fruit, etc. Not the worst hotel out there, but far from my favorite.
