PERFECT GAME TRAVELERS BEWARE We stayed here while our son was playing in a perfect game tournament. There was a possibility that we would be playing on Monday. There was also a possibility that we would be done on Sunday. We booked our room through Monday. Saturday night we knew that we would not be staying until Monday so we packed up all our stuff and we checked out Sunday morning. The lady at the front desk told me we were all set. The housekeeping lady had already checked to see if we were out so they could start cleaning our room, and we were out of the hotel by 9:30 AM. She handed me a receipt showing there was a $70 credit and we left. Turns out they're 24 hour cancellation does not apply to you initially showing up, it also applies to telling them you're going to leave, at least according to the person who tried to help me today when I called to find out why the $70 hadn't been credited back to my credit card. So if you are staying for a baseball tournament, you should not stay at this hotel because they will keep your money even if you leave a day early. I'm sure they also rented the room out later so they got double the revenue on that room for the day. Also, we initially had room 126 but had to move to room 124 because the smell of cigarette smoke was so overpowering in our room from the person smoking in the room above. On the second day, our bathroom smelled like marijuana because of the people smoking weed above us. Don't waste your money staying here. Pick another hotel that isn't going to keep your money for a day that you didn't use. It's also a $100 deposit I'm guessing because they have so many smoking issues. I stayed at nicer hotels with a smaller deposit. That should've been our first clue. read more

We stayed at this hotel for a vendor fair that we decided to do in cedar rapids. Upon further inspection of the room these are the conditions that we stayed in for two nights. I did reach out to choice hotels and was thrown around a few times telling me different options they could give me which none of them were full compensation or full refund. They are now telling me to reach out to the hotel to get a full refund. They refuse to help me out in the manner that would make this at least slightly better. Last minute check-in went smooth, parking directly out front, all the doors are secure with key access, breakfast is normal (yogurt, cereal, instant oatmeal, fruit, packaged pastries). Pet friendly with a nominal fee. No weird room to stay in because I have a dog. TV works Everything in the very nice, modern room WORKS! Free WiFi Tall mini fridge Close to grocery store No noise to speak of (besides cars going too fast during daylight hours), but I have a white noise app on my device for evening, night. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. My husband and I stayed here after our house caught fire and electric line was cut off for repairs. The Red Cross was kind enough to supply us with enough money to stay at a hotel for at least 3 days. We left early and came home to our house with no electric after we got fed up with the Quality Inn. I'll start with the small things. The wifi did not work for the entire visit, so if you are expecting internet, it's not going to happen. My husband was able to get dial-up speeds on his phone, but I could not get internet on my laptop or my ps4. The "hot" breakfast was ice cold. We did not arrive at the hotel until 4 am and got settled in at 5. I went to the buffet at 6 hoping for a hot breakfast. Everything on the buffet was cold. The sausages had flies inside when I took off the lid. The sausage and gravy was ice cold and had to be microwaved, as well as the eggs. However, my main issue with this hotel was treatment by the staff during our stay. We were given a a debit card with a pre-loaded amount by the Red Cross. We were told that they gave a Red Cross discount and worked with Red Cross. We were quoted a certain amount per night, and we calculated that we had more than enough for 3 nights. On the second day, we were not sure what was happening with our house. We called the front desk at 7am and told them we may need a late check out because we had to meet with the electric company and fire chief and were going to find out if we could come home. We were told to come to the front desk and let them know when we returned. When we returned, my husband went to the desk, and I to the room. He returned to the room distressed, saying that the desk person was claiming the card was declined and that she wanted him to drive to the bank and bring him cash. She also accused him of paying with a fraudulent card. I called Red Cross. They told me that not only had the desk person already collected the charge, she ran the card through an additional 4 times. I went to the desk and asked her for an explanation. She started claiming that my husband misunderstood her and then started yelling at me that nothing was her fault and to calm down. I was very calm, and had not raised my voice or anything. We only stayed because we were told we could not go home yet. The next day was another fiasco. My husband went up front to make sure everything was alright and a different desk person tried to get him to call Red Cross and ask for more money. When we asked her for an itemized list of charges, she refused. So we decided to check out and that we would go elsewhere if needed. When we asked her for a receipt with the final bill, she also refused to print that out, and said she will only give it to Red Cross. When I called Red Cross, they stated that they have never heard of that before, and that the hotel is likely committing some sort of fraud. They advised that we go withdrawal the rest of our funds so that people at this hotel could not steal money off our card. I would never stay here again, for any reason, and I would recommend you steer clear off this place. read more

Our first choice for Cedar Rapids hotels when we visit family in Iowa. Everyone on the staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. Prices for rooms are very reasonable, especially Labor Day through Memorial Day off-season. Recently remodeled and upgraded, so the furnishings are nice. Some of the room fixtures are showing age, especially in bathrooms. But any issues are resolved quickly if reported. Internet strength is variable; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (especially in the morning). Rooms are clean and well organized. Bedding is in good condition. Beds are too soft for our preference, but many people would find them quite comfortable. Parking is limited along front of the building. So, if you arrive late, you'll likely be across the access street and this area isn't as well-lighted. Breakfast (included) is good for the room price. We're vegetarians, so appreciate that they offer hard-boiled eggs and Greek yogurt choices most of the time. read more

The exterior and parking lot are scary looking. First time having crunchy scrambled eggs. Come on, they're fake. How much can you screw them up? Our stay at Quality Inn at Collins Road, was amazing. Very friendly front desk attendant who definitely knows what she's doing, checked us in right away. Got into our room, it was clean, quiet, and cute, had a mini fridge and a microwave, which is amazing. :) we slept really well on a very comfortable bed, the breakfast was amazing. Great variety. My husband and I accidentally forgot our toothbrushes at home, called down to the front desk and they had some complementary for us! I prepaid for this room for 2 nights. When I arrived and checked in I was given a key, but upon entering the room I found SOMEONE ALREADY ASLEEP IN THE BED!! There were no other available rooms so I my card was credited back and I was left to my own devices. I paid $125.93 for the rooms, I was credited $124.82, they couldn't even get that part right. But to leave me stranded in Cedar Rapids, IA (a town I had never been to before) without a room or a car or any other options - was unconscionable . I don't blame staff, it was very clear they did not have the proper training to handle the situation. This is a corporate level problem and an indication that I will never choose the Quality Inn line of hotels ever again. read more

I made reservations for my daughter and her friend to stay at this hotel for 1 night, while they were in town for a concert. They are 18 years old, and I made sure on both the hotel's website as well as the inforation on Travelocity, that the minimum age was 18 years old. This was important, otherwise we would not have agreed for them travel 3.5 hours away without a safe plan for a hotel to stay in for the night. The girls attempted to check in at the hotel and were promptly turned away and told that they have to be 21 years old, even though they explained that we checked this when making the reservations. They were upset and left the hotel. I sent them a screen shot and a copy of the reservation, which stated on both that 18yrs was the minimum check-in age. They brought the reservation in to show the lady working at the desk, and again they were told no. This time they were really upset and called me. They, once again, went back into the hotel with me on speakerphone. I explained the situation to the woman and expressed my frustration with having the information not only on the Travelocity webiste, but on the hotel's website as well! Both state 18 years old as the minimum check-in age!! The woman was, once again, rude and stated that 21 years old is their policy and "it's always been that way" and didn't seem to care that this was totally unacceptable and was going to put my daughter and her friend in an unsafe situation - as they were instead going to drive 3.5 hours home after the concert. The woman stated that "I guess I can call my GM" to see what he says. I had my daughter and her friend stay in the lobby until it was resolved, which eventually it was. She called the GM and he gave the OK for them to stay for the night. The woman was supposed to call me back with an update and never did. Also, as a side note, during the beginning of this situation, I called 5 different times and the phone just rang and rang. I'm pretty sure she saw the Area Code for Chicago and figured she'd avoid talking to the upset mom by simply not answering the phone. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience, the woman was horrible, and this could've ended up really badly. I'm happy they had a place to stay, but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. *Side note* My daughter's friend's mother called the corporate office during this and spoke to someone there. They acknowledged that the age is supposed to be 18 years and that this was handled really horribly. read more

Upon arrival transients were loitering and drinking in parking lot AND inside the hotel in the lobby. "Non smoking" hotel, however multiple people were in front door area smoking. Lobby smelled of cigarette and marijuana smoke. My daughter and I both have asthma. No masks or social distancing of any kind. The floors were dirty/sticky and the hotel was unkept. While talking to the representative about the condition of the hotel she helped another guest who wanted a room key. She asked him what his room number was and made him a key without verifying his information or his room number. A few minutes later he returned because his key did not work. Turns out she made him a key to another room at the hotel because he told her the wrong number! I couldn't believe that she just handed over a key to another room to this person. We had seen enough and for the first time in my life my husband said he did not feel safe at a hotel and there was no way he would let his family stay here. We were told that because we had made our reservation online that we would have to call customer support for a full refund. I called the number immediately while driving thru town looking for another hotel. (We were in town for a wedding and our daughters were flower girls, now we are running late for the rehearsal) We had originally booked 2 nights, after being on the phone for almost an hour the representative said that we would be charged one night of $80.63 only. Then they said that I would have to work with the hotel directly to get the second night of $80.63 refunded. I left several messages and emails with the hotel manager and the manager's manager. Never got a response. Finally after about a dozen calls to corporate (Choice Hotels) I was told that both nights would be refunded, only to check my credit card statement the next day and discover that both nights were refunded and then both nights were charged again, but on random days. It was like they just decided to charge and credit my card whenever they felt like it. When I called about the second charge they said that whoever credited me didn't have authorization to do so they decided to charge me again. I ended up changing my credit card number because of this. In the end I ended up paying for one night of the room because I was marked down as a "no show". I don't feel that I should be charged for a room that I was told I would be fully refunded for, was not safe and where people were doing illegal drugs, plus I was not a "no show", but I have wasted so many hours trying to get this resolved I have decided to finally give up. Not only was the actual hotel awful, but their response and attitude due to my complain made it even worse. I will never stay at another Quality Inn again in my life. Picture attached shows all the charges and credits to my credit card. I can't believe a company would do so many charges and credits, tell someone they are going to credit your account and then decide they changed their minds. We had a wedding to attend and were just looking for somewhere to bunk for the night that wasn't going to break the bank. This little place delivered, coming in at nearly half the price of some neighboring hotels! The bed and pillows were awesome, like...sleeping on a cloud amazing... I swear that's not the alcohol talking! Everything was nice and clean. Wish I could tell you about the complimentary breakfast, but it closes at 9am on Mondays, and we missed it. My only complaint was a bit of an off smell coming from the shower, and I had a heck of a time trying to get it to turn on; the pull thingy kept sticking. Also, no complimentary lotion in our room: two conditioners instead. Maybe this is the norm for this place or maybe it was a mistake. IDK, but with winter, I could have used the lotion, but not a deal breaker. For the price, this little place is worth the stay! read more

If I could give it negative stars I would! As soon as you walk into the lobby the awful musty smell hits you hard. Absolutely disgusting. Walk up to our room and the door is being help open by the luggage rack and a small device is plugged in and in the middle of the room. It smells musty. We call the front desk, owner comes up, and says oh yeah, yeah. I asked if he was going to remove it, his response, oh yeah, ok. A maintenance guy comes in and the manager asks him to fix a piece of molding coming off the wall and then asks if we mind after the guy goes to get his tools. Go into the tiny bathroom, and there is mold on the ceiling in the shower, the ceiling near the beds was dirty, the space between the AC/Heat unit is unfinished and peeling, the carpet looks like it's been there since the hotel opened, the safe didn't work - and they charge you $1.50/day for the safe! WTH???? Never been to a hotel that charged for the safe. The room was so gross I actually checked for bed bugs, thankfully didn't find any. The channels on the TV are a joke as is the "complimentary" unsecured WiFi. We leave to go visit family and when we get back, the floor near the AC/Heat unit is soaked and the windows have extreme condensation on them. We tried looking for another hotel but everything was booked due to the Hawkeyes/Penn State game for Saturday. The noise was horrible. Doors slamming early in the morning, could hear through the walls. We spent as little time there as possible. DO NOT waste your money on this hotel unless your expectations are in the gutter. I stayed here during JPs Cycle Open House in late June. I was very pleasantly surprised. Reception was courteous, helpful and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable and stocked with the usual amenities plus a micro wave and a coffee maker. Breakfast was served in the am but I didn't have a chance to try it. I've stayed at this hotel a few times. My favorite part about the hotel is the bed! So comfy. They have so many options for breakfast and the fitness rm was conveniently located right across from my room.
