Staff is friendly, I love the location and this used to be my go to hotel. This last time, the front door entry chime could be heard throughout the hotel as if it was in your room. So loud and it woke me up all morning long even though I was halfway down the hall upstairs. What's the point of a hotel if you can't sleep? This is a small fairly dated hotel. We paid the $25 pet fee and there is literally no grass on the property, it is entirely paved. Had to walk our dog to a small grass patch in front of a closed fast food place next door. We had a reservation at different Quality Inn and they called and said their water heater broke so I made this reservation on my phone (as a passenger). I screwed up the dates and I appreciate the front desk making the change for us when I called back. I added one star for that. Breakfast was below average. Hays seems like an OK city for a stop over and the Dillons down the street is a nice grocery store to stock up, but next time I'll look for a different hotel. read more

This place was fine. As a Diamond choice hotel member, I would honestly stay here again. The town is not glamorous, in fact it appears to be a poor Midwestern town. There are some sketchy homeless people walking around town, but they didn't bother me. The rooms were clean, they are trying to update them, so I appreciate the effort. The TV remote did not work. I could only turn the TV on and off. I wish the person who checked us in was more informative. I was traveling two very young children and was not told that there was a pool. I only found out by reading the reviews. Nor was I informed that there was a little park out back and about 2 hotels down in the grassy area. I'm glad I found a way for them to burn off their energy after a long day of traveling. Please keep in mind there are no elevators at this location either, so you may want to ask for a ground floor room. read more

Just checked in and the room and property is first class. Very impressed. We usually try to stay at a Marriott property because we have the privilege of the Friends and Family plan but this property is First Class. We definitely have this property on our must list. After the night, I'm even more impressed. Everything from the extremely clean and orderly lobby and hallway to the room and bathroom. This property is a great value and a must stay when near here. I had such an amazing experience at this motel. The kids loved the pool and the amazing breafast. The rooms were clean and the AC worked so well. After a wonderful night, the next morning we had a little incident and one of the owners, Sondra, helped out me and my family. She was so kind and understanding. Accidentally booked the wrong hotel due to GPS issue. This joke of a hotel refuses to refund my money under any circumstances. Literally cost them nothing to keep my money. Do not stay there or give them any of your hard earned money because they have no problem keeping money they never earned. We were very pleased with our stay at the Quality Inn in Hays, KS. The room was clean, fresh, all the appointments were updated, everything worked, the bed was very comfortable, and the full breakfast was a welcome surprise. And the price was right. Sayyed was eager to make sure we had everything we needed, and we felt safe and the place was pretty quiet. Would definitely stay there again when travelling across country, which we do every summer. read more

Overall, a decent stay. Staff was relatively sloppy, but it was good enough. Small selection of breakfast options, but it's free food. I appreciated how clean the room was and the Wi-Fi was good. I checked into the motel in the evening and immediately noticed how shady the area was. I was so tired from driving that I overlooked most of it when pulling in. I was unloading my bags and dogs and there was a guy in a hoodie smoking a cigarette outside of the entrance who appeared to be watching me. Thankfully, another lady pulled into the parking lot and was unloading at the same time who ended up waiting for me to go inside. The shady smoker guy was staying in the motel and I thought "oh great" a tweeker. The room itself was okay. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The front desk staff was nice and friendly. The dogs woke me up around 4:30 to go outside which I was reluctant due to the area, but had no choice. I went outside and low and behold the tweeker was outside getting into a van. I would not stay here again due to the perceived drug activity. read more

Not that we expected much for the price or location, but even in a run down, paint-peeling, dimly-lit, weird-green-color-in-the-pool, toilet-inexplicably-close-to-the-wall hotel room like this one, I was at least hoping for a halfway decent shower to rinse off in at the end of a long day of driving. It's not that the shower wasn't clean and spacious (though barely the first); it's that it would be a stretch to even call the tiny trickle of water drizzling from the head a shower at all. The pressure was so bad in this place that I could have gotten more water throughput by sending my girlfriend back and forth to the sink with a coffee cup and pouring it over my head. read more

My husband and I were caught in a snowstorm and were so thankful to find an affordable option that offered amenities (great little pool, nice full breakfast) and was spotlessly clean. The rooms were clean and nice (great for the price point); the hot tub and pool were delightful; the breakfast was excellent (much more than "continental breakfast" would imply--everything from hot eggs/bacon/gravy to waffles and almond milk); and, in particular, the service was warm and friendly, taking the time to play with our rambunctious 2-year-old and making him a care package to take on the road. This facility has major cleanliness issues! Upon our arrival we found the shower coated with grim and hair. When getting into bed we found black hairs scattered throughout the bedding. We had to request that the shower be cleaned and new sets of sheets. The pool was also pretty gross and it was way too over chlorinated. We had passed a gentleman in the hall upon our arrival who warned us of the conditions in his room and the lack of cleanlines. We ran into him again a few hours later as he and his wife were checking out due to the conditions in their room. It's obvious that no one works hard nor takes pride in their work around that facility. We will never return! read more

I called three hotels while driving on I 70. The Quality Inn had the best price, although I did have to ask for the Senior rate. I was pleasantly surprised by all the amenities in the room and in the breakfast area. Scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, waffles, donuts, cereal, juices and more. This is your basic "crash and go" joint - a place to get some shut-eye and get back on the road. Unfortunately, the showers had all the pressure of a gardener's watering can. It's definitely not going to win any Michelin travel awards, but then who's expecting that in Hays, Kansas? That said, my daughter and I did use the pool and above-ground hot tub. The smell of chlorine was sufficiently strong that I figured it was relatively safe. No detectable debris floating in either, and no ill effects thereafter, so... Likewise, the small continental breakfast was modest but didn't appear altogether unappealing. Faint praise in this review, I know, but that pretty much sums this place up. You can probably do better for the price. read more

My boyfriend and I were moving across country with our parents and needed a place to crash after a 13 hr driving day. We booked 2 rooms overnight with a rate around the $85 per night... what a waste of money. Prior to arriving, we called to verify that we would be arriving after midnight to alert them of our late check-in. Hours later, we find our way to this darkly lit motel. When walking into 'the lobby', there was no one at the front desk to check us in. We proceeded to call out 'Hello' looking for an employee. Waiting and waiting and no one showed up. We finally called the contact phone number hoping someone would respond to the ringing and a barely awake young man came in from the back room mumbling how sorry he was that he fell asleep. I totally understand that the night shift isn't for some people but I was agitated from the long drive and this was an extra hassle to deal with. We slowly got check in and went down the hallways to our rooms. Rooms were outdated and my boyfriend found a hair in the bed. Kind of creeped us out but we looked past since we were exhausted and were leaving early in the morning. When we went to breakfast the next morning, the breakfast was a mess. Literally. Your shoes stuck to the floor in the breakfast room because juice had been spilt on the floor and hadn't been cleaned properly if at all. That also meant no juice and the coffee ran out and hadn't been refilled either. Overall, I would have rather slept in my car. read more

As others have stated, the stay here was overall disappointing. The price was good at $84 including tax for double occupancy. I did receive excellent and friendly service from the from desk attendant, and those were about the highlights of the stay. This hotel is badly in need of an update - all the pictures on yelp look like glamour shots compared to what I saw. The wallpaper in all the rooms mimics water damaged drywall. The bathrooms are cramped with only a toilet and shower, and the sink is awkwardly positioned adjacent to the bathroom in the main walk/entry way to the room. The beds were old/worn enough that they had creaky springs; I would be surprised if this place has seen a new matress through the door in 15 years. There was a large dead cricket in the main hallway that maintained it's presence from when we checked in about 6 PM until we left after 8 the next morning. The breakfast offering was minimal and again, cramped. I observed food prep going on in the area behind the front desk where they also perform laundry duties. The star of the show had to be the housekeeper. Looked like standard white trash America drug user with horrid teeth. I know a lot of hospitality employees smoke, however she chose to do so right outside the front entrance to the hotel, at 7 in the morning, whilst talking on her phone about her baby daddy. Would definitely recommend that the owners of this hotel spend some money to update the furnishings and bedding, and review their employee policies to present a better image. read more
