As my family is checking in, we were told for the first time, one of our dogs was too big. Our shepherd is 70lbs. When asked to speak to the manager who did not seem in a hurry until a few minutes ago, suddenly had a doctor's appointment. How as a manager specifically focused on travelers, could you become unavailable and leave a family with young kids to have to travel back 2 hours the opposite way? read more

I will never stay at Marriott again! I left home with my child and two dogs at 4:00 am. During the drive, I booked a room, selecting the option to travel with pets and agreeing to pay the $100 cleaning fee. When I arrived at 1:30 am, exhausted and eager to rest, I was told I couldn't stay because my dogs weigh more than 35 pounds. I wasn't informed of this rule until I arrived. I explained to the front desk how tired I was and that I was traveling with a child, but they didn't care. I've been loyal to Marriott for years as a Titanium Elite member, but I won't support them anymore and will continue sharing my experiences with other travelers. read more

I had conflicting feelings based off the rave reviews on Marriott vs yelp. Here to say that the Marriott ones are more accurate and that this hotel is very much on the newer side and modern. It's easily the best off the exit in Hays. Has a well maintained pool, fitness center, free breakfast and clean rooms. Yes. They do limit pets to ADA service pets and they have to be under 35lbs. But they'll refund you if your pet doesn't qualify. The front desk staff of one was nice. Didn't have any issues checking in. Our room was in great shape. The shower could've been cleaner since some stray hairs were seen but everything else was clean and fresh. Water pressure was fine. Comfortable room and bed. Feel assured that this is an updated, well cared for hotel and what you'd expect for a Marriott mid-tier hotel . On Google it says 2 star hotel but is actually say it's a 3! Get ready for a read, it's worth it. As a long time Marriott Platinum Elite Member, I've stayed at my share of Marriott Brands of Hotels. All have had exceptional staffs, except this one. Hotel is nice, appears to be recently updated. The staff really needs to be updated. Here is how checkin went as an example. Walking up to the door; a big sign read " no public bathrooms, Bathrooms are for guests only" (my first thought, why, is there something I need to know about outside? Is my car going to be OK? (me walking in, not quite at desk). Desk clerk; "checking in" Me; yes Desk clerk " I need to see some ID" Me: how are you? Desk clerk: silent Handed me a piece of paper with, 10 or so, "rules" that I needed to read, and sign and date on the bottom. One rule I remember was "no excessive noise, we will only remind you once." ( we are both in our 70's don't think that's an issue, but didn't like the threat too much). Desk clerk; " here's your keys, your room is 311. Me: is there a possibility of an up (clerk interrupts: "no") grade (as a Platinum, you can get an upgrade if available). Now I'm afraid to even ask about the bonus points, So we went to the room for the evening. In the room there was another sign which read "due to WI-FI upgrade a technician may enter your room in the coming days, even if a Do Not Disturb sign is in place". Now I'm thinking wait, what, wait. It's "my" room for the time I paid for it. If I put a do not disturb sign out it means DO NOT DISTURB. I'm thinking what kind of compromising condition am I going to be cought in, some guy sticking his head in my shower saying "only be a minute pal". In the morning we stopped in for the breakfast. Not being a big breakfast eater, I just wanted a pastry, or some toast and coffee. All of the food was wrapped in plastic (even the individual slices of bread) which is fine, but on the front of the doors of the plastic containers was a BIG sign 'STOP, PLEASE USE TONGS". Not a little sign saying "please use tongs"but a BIG sign saying "STOP, PLEASE USE TONGS". We tried to get a cup of coffee out of the pump style pot, but it was empty. When my wife saw her she simply said " when you get a chance, could you refill the coffee pot"?. In a BIG huff, the women replied "I know, I'm going to do it. We were afraid to ask where the butter was. As I was checking out, I asked for a printed copy of the bill (I'm older and I like paper). On this particular stay I used points, so the bill should have been $0.00. When I asked, I was asked by a different clerk " why, it's just going to be a blank piece of paper". (I like a copy Just in case there was n error, or something. Just to make sure). Keeping in mind the previous night I said, never mind. Now as for the room, it was fine, the air conditioner was quite noisy when it turned on, as other reviews stated. As this is a Town Home Suite, it has various dished, and a sink to do dishes in. As I'm sure you know, they supply a small bottle of dish soap for washing dishes. This bottle was 75% used up, and the top flip cap was missing. I thought what next, the bar of soap in the bath was half used up ( it wasn't, it was new). So, unless you enjoy having people be rude to you, and you like being told what you "will do, and won't do", do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

General Manager miserable lady. Had issue with dog size. Never smiled, she was delighted to have me leave.

hotel was decent, but staff was a little creepy. Reminded us about the pet policy numerous times (we did not bring a pet). Have not had this issue at any Marriott before. Basically just very rude, abrupt, and accusatory upon walking in the door. Unlike every other Marriott brand hotel, the digital key option prior to check in does not exist. They make you physically check in and essentially interrogate you. Check your credit card statement carefully after you leave. We were billed correctly for our room, but we were also billed for an additional room on the same date in Orlando, FL. That was the *only* fraud on our credit card account. So I think when your card is on file during your stay, staff is able to bill additional room within the system to your card. That kind of shady behavior aligns perfectly with our interaction with the staff. Do not stay here. read more

It's a nice hotel. They charge $220+ per night but their toilet paper is so thin you can literally see through it. Don't they know that we are just gonna wrap it 45 times? How is that saving money. TP is not the place to skimp, especially when you're trying to pass yourself off as a nice hotel. read more

This place is a disgrace. My brother in law was moving from Kansas to colorado last night with his dog. We thought we made the right call by having him drive some of the way and stay at a safe hotel that allows dogs. He paid the additional $50 fee required for dogs; however, WHEN HE ARRIVED with his Labrador it was all the sudden made known to him that the weight limit for dogs is 30 pounds. The front desk was completely inappropriate and informed him he could pay an additional $250 to stay there. When my brother in law attempted to make payment to stay there he was refused service and they canceled his reservation. He was forced to find a new place to stay in the late hours of the night with his moving truck and dog. I am appalled at the service of this hotel. My brother in law was put in a very dangerous situation because of how the front desk handled this and whoever was working at the time was completely disrespectful and clearly unfavorable to a man of color. Clean, new hotel but poorly built and an insultingly bad breakfast. Fake egg type things and "fakon" meat substitute that are equally awful.

Stay away! When I checked in there was one person ahead of me and another associate directed me to the handicapped section of counter, which was not protected with a sneeze guard/shield. It was my first time traveling prior Covid, and it made me very uncomfortable. I was shocked that this was allowed to happen. I am am also surprised that they are allowed to serve breakfast buffet style and have a self serve coffee station. Ready to go breakfasts in bags would be nice. Housekeeping do not wear masks while cleaning room. The do not put stickers on the remotes or phones letting you know they have been properly sanitized. Management parties by the fire pit until early hours of the morning. I was staying on the fourth floor on the front of the building. My first night I was woken at 2:00 AM by a group of people talking loudly and I looked outside to see two of the front desk staff and some other staff members drinking and having a loud conversation around the fire. I am a loyal Marriott platinum member and very surprised by what I've experienced. I will not be returning to the Townplace anytime soon. I gave two stars because my bed was comfortable. read more

My wife and I had a horrible experience with "Sadie" - the unmasked front desk clerk at TownPlace Suites in Hays, KS on Tuesday evening, January 18th. I made our reservation through the Marriott Bonvoy website as I have lifetime Titanium status with Marriott; having spent more than $250,000 over the years. We were returning to Colorado, traveling with our black lab (a trained and certified therapy dog), and had planned on staying the night at this facility. We had driven ~10 hours to this hotel and arrived ~5:30 PM. The Marriott Bonvoy website states that the property is pet friendly. Hence, that's why we booked this facility, as we had previously stayed the past 2 nights in TownPlace Suites in Macon, Ga and O'Fallon, Illinois. They too are advertised as pet friendly. When I told the front desk clerk that I had a reservation she immediately pointed to her posted sign stating that dogs must be less than 35 pounds; ours is 56 pounds. When I explained that we had booked through Marriott she stated smugly that we needed to also visit this property's website, and she was unwilling to allow us to stay at this facility. Period! She was callous and unconcerned for our plight; handwriting some recommendations at substandard facilities locally that take dogs. Never mind that we are 2 senior citizens extremely wary of the Omicron variant, and do not trust many facilities to have the proper safety and Covid protocols in place. As mentioned, she was not wearing a mask throughout this ordeal. Then it got ugly. My wife got into a heated confrontation with her as she then tried to state that our dog is not a service dog; just an emotional support animal...which he is not. He is a therapy dog; providing comfort to OTHERS at memory care facilities and funerals. Sadie would have been wise to spend some quality time with our dog to improve her attitude; she could have used a customer service makeover. I realize that these properties are not Marriott company owned, but, this girl needs to lose her job as she is probably the least friendly, non customer service oriented Marriott representative I have met in all my years doing business with Marriott. read more

This Townplace Suites is excellent. It's new, it's clean, the rooms are very large, and the breakfast was great. I see some people complaining about their pet being too big or not being aware of the pet fee but it appeared to me the place was very clear about their regulations regarding pets. And that's probably why the place is in such great shape. I've stayed at a couple other spots in Hays and this was the best. read more

I usually don't give 5 stars unless there's some exceptions. Let me tell you, this place is amazing. The front desk was excellent. Took care of my needs for a room effectively and efficiently. This hotel looks amazing exterior and interior, I usually stay at the holiday inn express but wanted a different place to stay and I was not disappointed. The room was amazing and the bed and pillows were wonderful to my head and body. Ample parking and restaurants were all walking distance from the hotel. There were numerous hotels and inns in this area. Definitely, I will stay in this hotel again regardless it's here or/and in another state. read more

Dirty dishes, shower that hasn't been cleaned, Internet TV hasn't worked 3 out of the last 4 times we stayed here...all three times the hotel management couldn't care less. Appears that when the hotel is more than half full the internet/TV service has major issues, which tells me they're too lazy to figure out what's wrong or won't pay to have higher speed internet. For the price, this wasn't up to my expectations. It's just your regular hotel, but with an outrageous price tag for graduation weekend. The exhaust fan in the restroom barely works, the elevator is so slow.. all in all, it was a typical hotel that you could usually get for under $100 per night. read more

The hotel lost our reservation that we already paid for on Booking.com. The person at the front desk told us there was nothing they could do because the manager wasn't there. She did tell us we could pay another $217 to book a room. It felt very unsafe, the man waiting in line behind us was standing very close without a mask and would not back up. We got no assistance from the front desk person with the matter. Not a place I would visit during Covid. Not following proper protocol at all. read more

Not really impressed. Have seen this place for several years and really had no reason to stay, but some friends of ours chose the location and I'm not really happy. The rooms are super clean! The bathrooms are super clean. Lobby is a great set up. Shower is setup incorrectly hard to take a shower no door etc. beds are not comfortable. The room is literally a small apartment stove, dishwasher, kitchen sink. Extremely low low water pressure doesn't matter what time of the day. Nice new hotel. The breakfast was decent. Had a little kitchen in the unit. Not sure why with breakfast being served. Nice large tv- the bed was ok. I thought the bathroom was nice. we had a little soak in the pool. Not a big pool but a nice pool area. they also had a outdoor area with a fire pit. the fire pit is almost in the parking lot- but some people were using it and on a nice evening would be a good place to unwind. The hotel is using water saving showerheads and the sound of room doors closing seemed to carry into the unit. Only stayed one night- so didn't need to use the kitchen. read more

This hotel is very nice. It is a very large room with a kitchen area. We used the refrigerator and freezer for our ice packs and drinks. Beds are comfortable, nice tv, a chair with a footstool to sit on and a dinette table with chairs make it a very comfortable room. The thing I didn't like is the location of the bathroom and the size of the bathroom. There was very little counter space at the sink. The bathroom was located beside one of the beds so if you had to go to the bathroom while someone was in the bed, you would not have much privacy and you would disturb their sleep. read more

I stayed in the Townplace Suits last weekend. Our room was very clean and had a lot of amenities. Our room was an extended stay room, it had the full kitchen. I didn't utilize much of the kitchen as I was only there for one night, but it was awesome to have a wine cork in the room! The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was very modern. We had a great experience and will consider this hotel again if we are back in Hays. read more

We stayed at this wonderful new hotel July 3rd and 4th, and I am just now getting around to writing a review. During a trip from Virginia to Kansas and back again in which we stayed at 7 hotels, this was one of only two that had their full breakfast buffet. We enjoyed a spacious suite on the top floor where we could look out the window and see numerous spectacular fireworks shows both nights. This town really celebrates! The hotel is near several restaurants, and it is close to the highway. We had a wonderful time and would stay here again. read more

We've come to consider this Townplace our home away from home when traveling to and from Denver/Kansas City. We travel with our infant twins and we always feel accommodated, and safe here. Nikki (manager) is truly the cream of the crop!! On our first visit the hotel hadn't been opened long, it was posted on a sign that there were board games. They hadn't received them yet for their location so Nikki went to her own home and brought us back games to our surprise. Wow!! Then flash forward two months later on another trip, as we arrived, she remembered us and even said "you'll be happy, we've now got Scrabble!" (Our favorite game). This hotel is NOT pet friendly, and the staff, including the manager, is downright terrible at dealing with customers who have pets. After agreeing to pay a pet fee (which, not to mention is a ridiculous $100) after I had a friend ask to bring his pet to my "pet friendly" hotel, I was most unpleasantly surprised with another $100 "miscellaneous" fee, after receiving no call nor explanation for the fee. After speaking with an incredibly rude manager, I came to find that this hotel was most definitely not pet friendly, and in fact will rob you of money if you have a pet stay with you. The $100 fee was apparently for two holes in a curtain. So, essentially I'm paying $200 because a dog (supposedly) chewed on a curtain. If you're traveling with pets, DO NOT stay here! read more

Extremely rude front desk service, stayed during softball tournament two separate times. Treated us like an inconvenience. We were quiet but singled out our group as being loud and disruptive. repeatedly told us we were "being kicked out" of the lobby when several other groups/softball families were clearly being louder than us who were not guests at the hotel. Cops were called to disperse a crowd when we went outside. Then preceded to tell officers the loud ones went to bed. Long time Marriott member and have enjoyed many great properties. This was NOT one of them. With a base price of $199.00, so $234 with tax, then $100 pet fee, I would expect much better. I've stayed at a Residence Inn in San Diego for less and had easily three times the space and a friendly staff as well. Thankfully, I had a certificate so only paid the pet fee price...but I don't think it was even worth that! After walking through the fire pit area from the handicap parking spot and going through clouds of cigar smoke (glad my handicap is a bad back and not asthma), the first thing I saw was a sign saying 35 pound pet weight limit. My dog is bigger than that. Being honest, I said so. And the chubby, bleach blonde at the desk turned into a shrew. saying, "You used a certificate so you booked on line. Our policy is CLEARLY stated!" I explained politely that no, I had booked over the phone with Marriott reservations because I wasn't sure I actually had a certificate left to use. Then I was told "They should have told you!" When I said they had not done so, I was next told " Well, I don't know WHY the didn't tell you." Which was then followed with the outlandish statement that "You know, it's always a good idea to call the property directly." Now, having been exposed to bad layout of handicap parking, having been told (not ASKED) how I had to have knowingly ignored their policy, I was out of patience. I took my keys, got a luggage cart and came to my room. I don't know what planet that young lady is from but anytime I have EVER called a property directly and said I want to make a reservation, I have been transferred to the exact reservation line that I had used anyway. Between a snarky attitude and slovenly appearance, she's maybe not real bright...but whatever the case, she is not suited to the "Hospitality" industry because she's as far from hospitable as I have ever seen in 40 years of traveling. read more

Beware....if you make a reservation for this hotel the third party they use Reservations.com are very unreasonable. They charge fees and do not disclose and have a very severe cancellation policy. Even after experiencing a medical issue I was unable to cancel the reservation. The hotel may be nice but the reservation company are thieves. read more

The hotel itself is new and clean, but a rude and almost mean staff will ruin a trip and that's exactly what happened here. We were traveling with our two children and tired after a long day on the road. The couple ahead of us were greeted and received waters for being Bonvoy members. When we approached the desk, the young lady started talking with an older woman and was asking her about changing her schedule. The older woman told her she would be left short-staffed and she herself would not spend seven days a week in the hotel. I got the feeling she was the manager. They continued to argue while we stood there holding our children. Finally, the young woman started to check us in. Even though we checked in through the mobile APP and it was about 6 p.m., she still had to assign our room, which took about ten minutes. She kept checking the computer and re-checking. We asked about receiving free points for no maid service since we were staying for several nights and knew it was a perk through Bonvoy. She said she only goes by Marriott's policy and, "That's not a policy!" Since we have a large truck, we asked about parking, because the spaces in their lot are short, tight, and few. The manager heard us ask and rushed back up to the counter. She said, "Just park it over there!" When we asked where she meant, she told us the other hotel lot. My husband then said he didn't think it was right for us to park at another property since we were paying Marriott to stay. The manager said we should have looked at the parking situation before booking the room! I then asked about waters and the manager said, "We don't do that here." We gave up at that point and went to our room. About thirty minutes later, we were ready to eat. We sat down at the ONE computer they have for visitor use and started looking up restaurants. We didn't dare approach the desk, because both women were whispering with their hneeds to know.ands up to each other's ears. We weren't treated the way we get treated at every other Marriott hotel we've ever stayed in. My husband travels Marriott exclusively with his employer and we have over 500 nights of stays in three years with this brand. I've finally decided I need to start writing reviews, both good and bad. When the experience is negative, the parent company needs to know. read more
