Hotel stinks of stale smoke and mildew as soon as you walk in the door. Front desk clerk was extremely rude and acted like we were a burden for making her work. Room we were placed in first had a smell so bad of smoke and mildew that we almost couldn't breathe. Air conditioner was leaking all over the carpet leaving it soaking wet. Changed rooms. New room smelled better but the popcorn ceiling was falling down onto the bed and floor in chunks larger than 1 foot long. Beds are uncomfortable to say it best. We made a last-minute reservation through Hotels.com for a one- night stay at this hotel. We were tired from driving, and decided to stop for the night before reaching Springfield. There are many things to like about this Quality Inn, but it didn't measure up to its high-ish rating on Hotels.com. On the positive side, its location is good on Historic Route 66 -- a few miles off the interstate so it doesn't have the interstate noise. It's also close to a gas station and a Walmart. Rooms are sufficiently spacious, and bathrooms include a bathtub. The bed was comfortable, and included many pillows. This is a smoke-free hotel (much appreciated). The hotel has a small indoor pool (no jacuzzi) and exercise room, though we didn't use either. The price, including taxes, was under $100. The room rate included breakfast, parking, and good WiFi access. However, (1) some aspects of the room needed serious updates. As noted by a Yelp reviewer THREE years ago, the carpets are worn and stained. Upholstered chairs in the room were dirty and/or worn where previous patrons had touched them (head, arm rests). Sheets on the bed, while freshly washed, had some permanent stains. (2) our toilet was "running" continuously; (3) breakfast was, in theory, good but less than perfect on execution. There was a waffle machine (not used), biscuits (very hard) and sausage gravy (very watery), bagels/breads, fresh fruit (yay!), oatmeal, cereals, juices, coffee/tea. However, two of the serving trays were completely empty for the duration of our long breakfast at 8:30. It was only as we were leaving that a worker brought out sausage Patties for one of the sections. The third was never filled. Was is supposed to be eggs? Also, I had to ask for hot water for tea, as the water available was lukewarm at best. (4) while a non-smoking hotel, some guests were smoking while sitting on a bench at the front door, requiring patrons to walk through a cloud of smoke when entering or exiting the hotel; (5) I interacted with three staff members -- the check-in receptionist who was efficient but not particularly welcoming. When I asked for a "quiet room", her response was something to the effect that "you're getting the room that was offered through the booking website." A different woman at reception on our check-out day was mostly non-communicative when I asked for hot water - though she did go to get both fresh water and coffee immediately. And, finally, I encountered a super helpful and friendly woman when I was checking out. Since no one was at the desk, she came running over from the breakfast room to see if I needed help. read more

It seems like the management company or owner lets some workers from India live on site and they cook in their room. Great hotel for the price! The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable and the continental breakfast was delicious. I would like to mention that the staff was amazing. I was traveling with my 85 year old Grandmother who has dementia and we checked in pretty late. I asked Larry at the counter if there would be someone there all night (in case she wandered out of our room). He wrote down her name and assured me he'd keep watch and return her to our room if that happened. It didn't happen, but I felt much better knowing that. Will definitely stay there again. read more

This hotel is very reasonably priced. We actually live in town and have been doing repairs on our house. We needed to find a hotel that was reasonable, friendly and had a pool so that my 12 year old daughter wouldn't be bored. This fit the bill perfectly. Breakfast was great. Hot scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and a waffle iron. Plus lots of cold items such as yogurt, cereal, pastries, etc. Apple juice, orange juice and cranberry juice as well as coffee were available. Bed was very comfortable. Only complaint I have, is that the pillows are a square shape and are a bit odd to sleep on. But this was remedied by just putting 2 of them side by side, so I'm happy. Staff was friendly and there is ample parking. It's right across the street from Aldi and WalMart, so shopping for supper or snacks is no problem. The Wi-Fi is absolutely wonderful. Very fast! Only place I could not access it was in the pool room. But, all is well. I recommend this hotel to all my friends from out of town. Oh, and housekeeping is great also! read more

I came to this hotel not having a reservation, asked for a room for two, and then the receptionist asked me how I was going to pay for the room before I was even done asking how much it would be for night. Once entering the room it had a mildew/damp order to the room. Room itself was okay, but I didn't feel comfortable walking on the carpet. We booked this hotel through a well known booking website and actually chose this hotel because it had rooms available for two adults and two children. However, when we arrived, the hotel receptionist insisted that our reservation was for two adults only. She complained that she now had to change our room, although the fault was not ours. When we asked if there was an AAA discount, she refused to even check, since we had booked through this website. We asked if we could then cancel our reservation and book a new one and she again, said we couldn't do that. So far, the hospitality at this hotel was... lacking. The lobby itself however was lovely, we were delighted that there was free coffee and cookies. We headed up to our room, which also looked lovely, (although it had a distinct humidity/dampness to it), and put on our suits to go use the pool. My husband grabbed a coffee before hitting the pool and the receptionist once again gave him the stink eye. Apparently, no food or drink was allowed in the pool area, which he did not realize. This is a fair rule, however, instead of politely informing him of this rule, she instead said "Just so you know, if you spill that coffee by the pool, I'm NOT cleaning it up." Enchanting. The rest of our stay was fine, the breakfast was good and I was delighted that they had waffles. read more

We were in town for a family event. The room was clean but does not resemble the photos here or on the website. My mom used the pool. My issue was that either from the AC unit or the cleaning supplies utilized there was kind of a smell in the room. Not an unpleasant smell but a smell nonetheless. I was also surprised that the exterior door to the parking lot near our room was open at night. Would return here if other options nearby were not available. The wifi is free and I have to say the speed was better than my service at home so that is a plus. read more

This was a nice clean hotel. The only issue was that the heating unit sounded like a jet plane. It did not shut the fan off once it reached the correct temp. The room temp was perfect, but the fan unit was an issue. Staff was pleasant. The morning breakfast was nice, but the food ran out and no one was replacing food in a timely manner or cleaning the tables. The room itself was very nice! Very nice hotel in Litchfield. This was within walking distance of the race I was attending. The hotel was very clean and quiet. The staff was relatively friendly, but the morning desk people seem to want to get everyone out as soon as possible, so if you request late checkout be careful as I was locked out and they went ahead and cleaned the room before I went back. On the upside, my stuff was still there and hopefully it was just a miscommunication on their side somewhere, but to be safe try and not take the late checkout. I would give them another chance as the hotel was very nice; especially for what you pay, just have a sour taste from the check out hassles. read more

Nice hotel and reasonably priced. Allowed government rate even on Friday evening. Rooms were spacious with roomy bathroom. Housekeeping was great. Coffee & cookies in the lobby at all hours. (Pool was out of commission during our stay, but not a show-stopper.) Exercise equipment adequate. Free hot breakfast was very well appreciated: pre-scrambled eggs, sausage, waffle machine, biscuit & gravy, cereal, bananas, yogurt, more. One major flaw: the trains! Wednesday night and Friday night, there were trains coming through town every 15-20 minutes. Hotel needs to put up some kind of sound barrier system for sure. You may wish to ask for a west side room (opposite the trains). read more

When arriving in Litchfield, the odometer reads 3,000 plus miles since leaving home. I have not slept past 4am in weeks. Falling into the perfect bed in a strange land, I awoke to find the clock at 730am without as much as one disturbance. The breakfast got me charged and ready for another day of driving. Being a business traveler, the internet is critical and served me very well. The inviting pool is indoors, and I noticed a very lovely laundry on my floor by the ice machine. The interactions with front desk staff offered me complete confidence and security. In addition, the owners are here on property and very involved in the operations. Offers were made for me to call up any hour night or day for anything at all. This is a very lovely hotel, the best I have had the pleasure of visiting in many nights of travel. read more

I had a reservation but came in before the 3pm check in time. The person at the desk Ms.Logue said I could check in early. I was grateful. She was not very friendly at all. I assume with all of the work type vehicles she is not used to having other than construction men as guests. I came down for coffee this morning and i said oh you have coffee? She pointed in the direction of the coffee. Not a good morning kiss my ass or anything... FAIL. I have 2 more nights after tonight which is paid for already and if she were a little bit friendly I would have considered staying here for those 2 nights. Unfortunately, The Hampton Inn will be getting my business for those 2 nights. Someone should tell Ms. Logue, if isn't going to hurt her to smile and be friendly to her guests.
