    bathroom mold

Absolutely the WORST hotel we've ever been in! Mold on bathroom walls (see pictures) disgustingly filthy floors. Had to go buy my own swiffer. Torn, holey bed linens. Stained bath towels. Paltry breakfast selection, with an insulting sign on the doors that said, "No food or drink beyond this point". Like their food was something to cherish. No clock in room and when I asked desk clerk lady if she could scrounge one up, she basically told me to pound sand, even though hotel was less than half full. Upstairs room was pounding out music all night and same lady said nothing she could do about it. It was the PITS!!!

First impression: Check-in was efficient, but it smelled like old wet dogs had a party in the lobby. My room expectations immediately plummeted waaaaay down, however, the room appeared to be freshly remodeled. The bedding was nice, the mattresses were comfortable, furniture and decor were modern, bathroom was clean and the carpet was brand new. It still had that new carpet smell. The location is nice. Lots of conveniences nearby including gas stations, restaurants, a Walmart, miniature golf and a much needed self-serve car wash to get the bugs off from the long drive. Unfortunately, breakfast was pitiful. This by far is thee worst complimentary breakfast of any Choice Hotel I've ever visited. We stayed three nights and it never got any better. Only two choices of cereal in a dispenser that seemed to not want to release ANY cereal! In my Liam Neeson voice, I commanded that dispenser to RELEASE THE CRACKLE POPS, but my powers of persuasion were to no avail. There were NO bagel or danish options and NO eggs, not even boiled. Only sausage patties sitting in a boatload of grease, terrible tasting packaged honey buns (that did not get replenished every day) and a waffle maker that was the devil himself. The waffles kept getting stuck when we tried to get them out after the cook time had expired. Clearly the owners here are tight with money and probably sleep clutching their wallets. I can imagine them saying "We renovated the rooms, what more do you want!?" Uuummmm, eggs for breakfast and a danish would be nice. I'd also like for my sausage not to lounge in a hot tub of grease that might as well have a sign saying 'this may cause a heart attack'. NOTE TO OWNERS: Please visit the Quality Inn location in Virginia Beach where the FREE breakfast bar would rival a buffet restaurant. Not expecting that, but anything is better than this! The "Business Center" included one Walmart blue light special computer in the lobby that is unavailable between 10 pm and 6:30 am because the lobby locks down. Wait... maybe this isn't such a good area after all? So be sure to bring a laptop with you and possibly some pepper spray. FINAL THOUGHTS This Quality Inn location is truly only for travelers requiring the bare necessities. There is an outdoor pool onsite and a public playground/park across the street for families with young children. A small fitness center consisting of a treadmill, elliptical machine and some sort of cycling machine are located next to the breakfast area in a mirror-lined room. We were lucky enough to have enough choice hotel points that made this entire stay free, but I have come to expect a little more for the money in terms of breakfast. All things considered, we got what we paid for (or in this case used points for). But if you are planning on staying here and have ANY standards, you may want to budget going out for breakfast. Not sure if we would stay here again considering breakfast is a HUGE factor for our family budget when traveling. Saving $20 to $30 on breakfast each morning allows me to splurge more for lunch or dinner or activities. We will likely look for a similarly priced hotel with better options on our next trip to central Florida. 2016/25

This place should be condemned and torn down. 1. There was a bed bug shell casing found underneath the mattress (see photo). I did not see actual live bedbugs but if there are shells (bed bugs shed there skin periodically) that means that there are or were bedbugs present. 2. My non smoking room reeked of smoke - very intense smoke smell. 3. Shower faucet handle had dark black mold growing inside the handle (see photo) 4. Bathtub drain was clogged, when I was done with my shower, I was standing in 1 1/2 feet of dirty water Next time in the area, if this was only hotel available, I would rather sleep in my car. - Place is filthy, moldy, smelly - with a history of bed bugs - disgusting - horrible. And for this horror I paid over $100.

King size bed with 4 small throw pillows to sleep on.

Before arriving, we received a text message with thorough instructs for checking in, which was very convenient. There was a code to the front door, and then a separate code for our room. The entire inn and the room were decorated perfectly to match the period in which it was built. Our room and common areas were very clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom and shower were also surprisingly spacious for such an old house. I'd love to stay here again in the future.

They served a fantastic free breakfast that was delivered to your cottage, and they made you feel welcome as if you were family. NOT TRUE ANYMORE!!! This visit was our second time staying at the Alling House. I wanted to stay there for my 60th birthday based upon my previous experience, see the manatees, and just enjoy a nice, peaceful weekend away. Upon calling to make the reservation, I was informed that they were now under new management (it apparently was sold in September of 2022) and no longer served breakfast due to "COVID RESTRICTIONS." I was disappointed, but if that was a state or county regulation, so be it. They were still reasonably priced compared to the prices hotels are charging currently. I was also somewhat taken aback by the overall attitude of the person taking my reservation since he was rather harsh and did not seem very customer service oriented, especially when compared to the previous owners and other B&B's we have stayed at. It appears that the Alling House B&B is now operated remotely. I, at no point, was greeted by anyone, nor did I see anyone onsite that welcomed us or anything. If there hadn't been a female there when we arrived, who stated she was moving in, we wouldn't have known whether to check in at the main house, or just go to our cottage. Being a U.S. Navy veteran, 100% totally and permanently disabled, I was initially happy that we were staying in the Frontier cottage, the only one with a ramp. Stairs are not my friend at all. In order to fairly review the Alling House B&B, I have broken it down into negatives and positives, respectfully, as follows: NEGATIVES: * While I would like to begin with the breakfast issue, I feel I must begin with the fact that the ramp to the Frontier cottage has sunken boards that almost caused me to fall and are extremely dangerous to anyone with disabilities. There are at least 3 of them that will suddenly drop when stepped upon. * NO BREAKFAST. While I have already addressed this to a certain extent, I made phone calls to the state DBPR, the Volusia County Health Department in Orange City, FL, and verified that there are NO COVID RESTRICTIONS on B&B's serving food. Basically, it comes down to the new management just not wanting to incur the cost or go to the trouble. Therefore, if you want a TRUE B&B experience; this is not the place. Honestly, how can you call your business a Bed & Breakfast if you don't at least serve breakfast??? The website advertises itself as a member of the Florida Bed & Breakfast Inns, yet does not serve breakfast at all and uses Covid as the excuse in 2023??? * No WiFi, as advertised. When I called about it, I was told it was being worked on to make it better, even though we were provided the name and password in our confirmation email and text, and a card in the cottage. The individual I spoke with told me I could use the WiFi in the main house if I needed to do work. I don't advertise that I am disabled, but walking back and forth to the main house, especially when I'm paying for a cottage that advertises WiFi, is not easy for me at all, and I should not have to do that. I also brought along our Amazon Echo to enjoy sitting on the front porch and relaxing to some nice music, but no WiFi. * No cable TV or Roku device, or similar, but of course any streaming device would not have worked without WiFi. They do have some type of TV antenna that provides mediocre television. * Dining table chairs are horribly uncomfortable and sink in, not good for someone with a back issues, like myself. * The bed is very high and likely too high for anyone confined to a wheelchair. While they do provide a small, somewhat unsafe step stool, even my wife who is not disabled had to use the step stool to get into the bed. * My wife has possible bed bug bites on both of her feet that match bed bug photos online. However, she has not been to the doctor yet to determine if that is the cause. * Drinks and snacks are also advertised as being available in the refrigerator, yet there was nothing. OTHER LESSER NEGATIVES: * Lights on ceiling fan do not work at all, so you have no light in the living room, making the entire cottage seem very gloomy. * Coffee maker water reservoir has black residue in both sides of the plastic water level indicator windows. Looks like mold, but I am not a chemist. Although it is nice to have a Keurig available, I was informed that some cottages have them, some don't. Doesn't make sense at all. * Live roach in kitchen drawer. * If you use Grub Hub, or another delivery service, plan to pick up your food from the front porch of the main house. Not pleasant if it's raining, or you want the food del

My daughter and her team had just won the state championship game in Deland and with all the excitement when packing up the room she left her uniform in a drawer by accident!!! We did not realize this until almost one week later since the season has ended. Long story short I called the hotel in a panic almost a week after her checkout date and they not only took the time to go look to see if it was in the Lost and Found. They actually had it set aside with her room number on it. I have never experienced such a level of customer service!!!!! Thank you to everyone at this hotel from the housekeeper that didn't just "throw it away" to the kind front desk manager that took my call at 12:30am and went to look for it---thanks to them I was able to sleep peacefully that night!!!! The pillows were quite old and lumpy. The worst was the cigarette smell which wafted in the room from the outside. The porch which wraps around the building is dotted with chairs & tables. Each table has an ash tray which is full of cigarettes. There appear to be people who live there, and they smoke quite a lot. The interior of the room was painted and decorated quite nicely, however the floorboards under the air conditioner were water-damaged. The Inn is elevated, so you walk up steps or a ramp to the first floor. Both the steps and the ramp are badly in need of refinishing and repainting. I was escorted to my room by the manager after checking in. I realized then I really didn't want to bring much into the room, as it had an off scent. Their website states they clean the rooms, but "time has its own fragrance". I've been in buildings much older than this one, & experienced the fragrance of time in a well-maintained historic building. This was not it. I realized after I left the next morning that the room smelled of cigarettes. I had to wash everything I brought into the room, including my purse. I use a c-pap, and had to change to a new hose as soon as I got home. If you, like me, are a non-smoker, do not stay here. If you are concerned about bringing cockroaches home with you, do not stay here. This is definitely not a 3-star hotel. I've stayed in 3-star hotels. Believe me when I tell you, this doesn't come close to a 2-star hotel. Maybe 1 star. Maybe. Whoever rated this hotel needs to do a return visit and readjust the rating.

Good customer service is so important! No need to be nasty to people.
