I loved this cozy inn! My friend and I were staying in DeLand for a few nights, and she found this cute, historic inn not far from the downtown area. Before arriving, we received a text message with thorough instructs for checking in, which was very convenient. There was a code to the front door, and then a separate code for our room. The entire inn and the room were decorated perfectly to match the period in which it was built. Our room and common areas were very clean and tidy, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom and shower were also surprisingly spacious for such an old house. I'd love to stay here again in the future. read more

My wife, my daughter, and I had the pleasure of staying at the Alling House B&B several years ago. We stayed in the Victorian Cottage and the place was beautiful, the owners at the time were very customer oriented and catered to their guests with great care and respect. They served a fantastic free breakfast that was delivered to your cottage, and they made you feel welcome as if you were family. NOT TRUE ANYMORE!!! This visit was our second time staying at the Alling House. I wanted to stay there for my 60th birthday based upon my previous experience, see the manatees, and just enjoy a nice, peaceful weekend away. Upon calling to make the reservation, I was informed that they were now under new management (it apparently was sold in September of 2022) and no longer served breakfast due to "COVID RESTRICTIONS." I was disappointed, but if that was a state or county regulation, so be it. They were still reasonably priced compared to the prices hotels are charging currently. I was also somewhat taken aback by the overall attitude of the person taking my reservation since he was rather harsh and did not seem very customer service oriented, especially when compared to the previous owners and other B&B's we have stayed at. It appears that the Alling House B&B is now operated remotely. I, at no point, was greeted by anyone, nor did I see anyone onsite that welcomed us or anything. If there hadn't been a female there when we arrived, who stated she was moving in, we wouldn't have known whether to check in at the main house, or just go to our cottage. Being a U.S. Navy veteran, 100% totally and permanently disabled, I was initially happy that we were staying in the Frontier cottage, the only one with a ramp. Stairs are not my friend at all. In order to fairly review the Alling House B&B, I have broken it down into negatives and positives, respectfully, as follows: NEGATIVES: * While I would like to begin with the breakfast issue, I feel I must begin with the fact that the ramp to the Frontier cottage has sunken boards that almost caused me to fall and are extremely dangerous to anyone with disabilities. There are at least 3 of them that will suddenly drop when stepped upon. * NO BREAKFAST. While I have already addressed this to a certain extent, I made phone calls to the state DBPR, the Volusia County Health Department in Orange City, FL, and verified that there are NO COVID RESTRICTIONS on B&B's serving food. Basically, it comes down to the new management just not wanting to incur the cost or go to the trouble. Therefore, if you want a TRUE B&B experience; this is not the place. Honestly, how can you call your business a Bed & Breakfast if you don't at least serve breakfast??? The website advertises itself as a member of the Florida Bed & Breakfast Inns, yet does not serve breakfast at all and uses Covid as the excuse in 2023??? * No WiFi, as advertised. When I called about it, I was told it was being worked on to make it better, even though we were provided the name and password in our confirmation email and text, and a card in the cottage. The individual I spoke with told me I could use the WiFi in the main house if I needed to do work. I don't advertise that I am disabled, but walking back and forth to the main house, especially when I'm paying for a cottage that advertises WiFi, is not easy for me at all, and I should not have to do that. I also brought along our Amazon Echo to enjoy sitting on the front porch and relaxing to some nice music, but no WiFi. * No cable TV or Roku device, or similar, but of course any streaming device would not have worked without WiFi. They do have some type of TV antenna that provides mediocre television. * Dining table chairs are horribly uncomfortable and sink in, not good for someone with a back issues, like myself. * The bed is very high and likely too high for anyone confined to a wheelchair. While they do provide a small, somewhat unsafe step stool, even my wife who is not disabled had to use the step stool to get into the bed. * My wife has possible bed bug bites on both of her feet that match bed bug photos online. However, she has not been to the doctor yet to determine if that is the cause. * Drinks and snacks are also advertised as being available in the refrigerator, yet there was nothing. OTHER LESSER NEGATIVES: * Lights on ceiling fan do not work at all, so you have no light in the living room, making the entire cottage seem very gloomy. * Coffee maker water reservoir has black residue in both sides of the plastic water level indicator windows. Looks like mold, but I am not a chemist. Although it is nice to have a Keurig available, I was informed that some cottages have them, some don't. Doesn't make sense at all. * Live roach in kitchen drawer. * If you use Grub Hub, or another delivery service, plan to pick up your food from the front porch of the main house. I had a lovely stay at The Alling House for a family reunion in Sanford. Our whole family stayed here and were treated very well by the owners. I stayed in the Nature Cabin with my brother and his wife. Our cabin was clean and cozy. They were really dedicated to the nature theme with the decorations. It felt very homey - like I was visiting my grandparents. The bathroom was sparkling clean which I appreciated and stocked with essentials. The bath towels were divine! I've never had a hotel provide such soft and fluffy towels before. I needed to get some work done during my visit and was able to spread out on the kitchen table in the space. There was plenty of room and I appreciated how quiet it was. The only downside was that the internet was a little unreliable and could be quite slow, so I had difficulties launching Zoom. Overall, my stay at Alling House was a nice one. It's a good place to relax and unwind in relative comfort. read more

I love this place. My daughter and I decide to stay there for a week, and just take some time off to unplug. It was so worth it. The property is clean, and well maintained. You can feel the love from the owners. Gerald and Nan was so hospitable. We ordered breakfast for a few days. Everything was delicious. Nan is so wonderful chef, and they work so well together. I loved every second there. There's lots to do walking distance. I biked to a few locations for lunch, and activities with my daughter. I felt safe, and the homestead cottage was so cozy. Better than Airbnb or VRBO in my experience. I have stayed in a beautifully decorated room in the Victorian main house with a spacious bathroom and access to a shared kitchen. I have also stayed for an extended period of time in two of the five cottages out back. Clean, cozy and comfortable with full kitchens and a washer and dryer in each. Reservations, check in and check out are all digital and super simple to navigate but the owner and staff are always available for any necessary in person contact at a moment's notice. Situated halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach, access to all Central Florida venues and events is easy and quick. This place is great for a solitary getaway, a romantic accommodation for two or a family reunion for 20! I am already looking forward to coming back. read more

I was looking for a nice quiet place I could take my 90 year old mother for a few days. She insisted on taking her dog, so I knew it might not be easy to find a place that would suit our needs. I found the Alling House on Yelp and thought it looked perfect, and it was. My mom loved The cabin we stayed in, and the layout of the grounds was great and the grounds were very neat and clean. The owners were very nice and helpful. When I come back this way again, I will not hesitate to stay here again. What a fantastic place to stay! The owners are so friendly and helpful and they go the extra mile to make sure you are very comfortable and happy. We rented one of the cottages which was just adorable and it was stocked with milk, juice, coffee, cereal and snacks so we skipped the breakfast at the main house. The grounds are absolutely stunning and if you get a cottage away from the road it's very quiet. The Blue Springs State Park is just across the main road and Deland is only a few miles away. Plenty of parking and handicap friendly throughout the property. I want to again in the fall to enjoy the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. A real gem! read more

I love this place! They have thought of every detail and are the sweetest owners ever. They have several rooms in the house and then they have converted the old stable house into some more rooms that are in self contained buildings out back of the main house. We stayed here for a little less than a week with our 7 and 9 year old nieces in the converted stable house while in town for a family reunion. Our room had a loft complete with two kids beds and a full kitchen with a mini washer and dryer. One day we went to the beach and they lent us buckets, shovels and beach towels (for free). Some of the other great things that were included were milk in the fridge with cereal in our rooms. The kitchen had everything you needed as far as dishes and included cereal and milk and condiments. If you bought some groceries (walking distance away) you could cook anything there. They also offer a several course breakfast with really nice dish ware. We didn't partake of this, our other family members did and they loved the food and experience. They have large grounds that are perfectly kept complete with several porch swings and a tire swing. And to top it all off, it was cheaper to stay here than to stay in the hotel chain a quarter mile away. We stayed in the Homestead Cottage, and then moved to the Frontier Cottage. Our other family members where in the house and in the Victorian Cottage. (The pictures on the website doesn't do them justice, these rooms are large and include spa tubs, etc.) This place is fantastic, I highly recommend staying there. read more

Went away for a girls trip to this wonderful B&B. It felt like I was right at home. The owners make you feel just like family. They have beautiful spacious rooms in the main house and five unique cottages on the property. They have beautiful grounds with a fire pit to roast marshmallows or just sit around and reminisce. It was enchanting. A hidden gem. My family and I were always talking about going away for the weekend and Orange City and its state park was the quick answer, and Alling House provided a place to rest at night. But it was much more. They're cottages, almost hidden away by the tall trees and inside is the most charming decorations. Old wooden tables, beds with old fashioned quilts, a small kitchen providing the most peaceful view of the backyard. We were so happy. The best parts were the breakfasts. I swear my family wanted to stay another week just for the breakfast. Nan makes the most delicious meals, even my mother was quiet in her surprise. My niece was actually eating and I couldn't stop eating. None of us are early risers but we willingly woke up for Nan's breakfasts. At night we roasted marshmallows by the fire that our generous hosts provided for us, we watched old 80's movies (my favorites) that were still in VHS and we swayed in hammocks under the trees. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! This is a great location for visiting Blue Springs, however, we didn't get to visit the park this trip. We we college touring at Stetson, Rollins and UCF. Anyway, we stayed in the Green Room and had everything we needed for a nice, comfortable nights rest. The breakfast was tasty too! We loved this B&B so much we stayed for 3 days! Nan and Gerald couldn't have been nicer and their property is literally 1 mile down the road from Blue Spring State Park where we saw a baby manatee and had a ball snorkeling in the spring that pours out 100 million gallons of water A DAY. Yes, it's a place for diving! We stayed in the Frontier Cabin and loved it! Our room had a hot tub in it and Nan has thought of everything! Alling House would be perfect for a small reunion or wedding and, let's face it, Disney is only about 45 minutes away! But who needs that when the state parks are right there and so clean and beautiful! Bring your kayaks or rent them from the park! And Nan can cook! Just spending an hour in her dining room is a treat. If you've always wanted to try a B & B, this is one to visit! read more
