They actually had it set aside with her room number on it. I have never experienced such a level of customer service!!!!! Thank you to everyone at this hotel from the housekeeper that didn't just "throw it away" to the kind front desk manager that took my call at 12:30am and went to look for it---thanks to them I was able to sleep peacefully that night!!!! The pillows were quite old and lumpy. The worst was the cigarette smell which wafted in the room from the outside. The porch which wraps around the building is dotted with chairs & tables. Each table has an ash tray which is full of cigarettes. There appear to be people who live there, and they smoke quite a lot. The interior of the room was painted and decorated quite nicely, however the floorboards under the air conditioner were water-damaged. The Inn is elevated, so you walk up steps or a ramp to the first floor. Both the steps and the ramp are badly in need of refinishing and repainting. I was escorted to my room by the manager after checking in. I realized then I really didn't want to bring much into the room, as it had an off scent. Their website states they clean the rooms, but "time has its own fragrance". I've been in buildings much older than this one, & experienced the fragrance of time in a well-maintained historic building. This was not it. I realized after I left the next morning that the room smelled of cigarettes. I had to wash everything I brought into the room, including my purse. I use a c-pap, and had to change to a new hose as soon as I got home. If you, like me, are a non-smoker, do not stay here. If you are concerned about bringing cockroaches home with you, do not stay here. This is definitely not a 3-star hotel. I've stayed in 3-star hotels. Believe me when I tell you, this doesn't come close to a 2-star hotel. Maybe 1 star. Maybe. Whoever rated this hotel needs to do a return visit and readjust the rating.

HEALTH HAZARD - DO NOT STAY HERE…read more I am writing this review as a warning to other travelers. This was the most distressing hotel experience of my life, involving serious health violations and treatment that I can only describe as shocking. SEVERE HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS: Upon entering Room 108, I discovered conditions that were truly appalling. Heavy accumulations of grime and petrified dirt under the bed and frame, active spider webs, and insects throughout the room. This was not a matter of a room that needed a quick cleaning - this was evidence of long-term neglect and systemic failure of basic sanitation. Within hours, I suffered a severe allergic reaction that required use of my asthma inhaler. The unsanitary conditions posed an immediate threat to my health. MANAGEMENT RESPONSE - HOSTILE AND UNACCEPTABLE: When I reported these conditions, I was moved to a second room that was in equally poor condition. The next morning, when I spoke with the manager to request a refund, I was: - Treated with hostility rather than concern - Told I would receive no refund whatsoever - Informed I would need to pay an additional "early check-in fee" just to access a room that met basic health codes - Had the police called on me for reporting legitimate safety concerns - Forced to leave the property with no time to arrange alternative accommodations I was essentially evicted for reporting health violations. This is retaliation, plain and simple. CORPORATE FAILURE: Choice Hotels corporate offered me 13,000 loyalty points instead of a refund. They claim they cannot process refunds for franchised properties. This corporate structure appears designed to avoid accountability when properties engage in fraudulent practices. I paid for safe, clean accommodations. I received rooms that violated health codes and caused a medical emergency. When I reported this, I was treated like a criminal and thrown out. EVIDENCE: I have extensive photographic and video documentation of the conditions in both rooms. I am filing complaints with the Volusia County Health Department and the Florida Attorney General's Office. WARNING TO TRAVELERS: - Do not trust that rooms here meet basic sanitation standards - If you have allergies or respiratory issues, this property is dangerous - Management is hostile to guests who report legitimate concerns - You will not receive a refund even for uninhabitable conditions - Corporate will not help you This property should not be accepting guests until it undergoes a complete sanitation overhaul and management receives training on how to treat customers with basic dignity and respect. I am a long-time Choice Hotels member and have never experienced anything like this. The normal amenites of wi-fi, flat screen TV, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, and even a pull-out bed were included. They were very gracious with out late check-out due to the fact that we were out late at the wedding reception, as well.
