Came here for a local show. There were supposed to be at least 5 bands playing. Paid $10 for entrance. The first band had their set cut by 3 songs, second band also had their set cut. Then the venue decided to cut the rest of the show... The manager was outside on the phone complaining about how she wasn't getting enough money that night to let the rest of the bands play. I cannot say enough good things about Alma, Jeff, and the whole staff over at Queen Bee's Art and Cultural Center. We were pretty overwhelmed trying to plan a wedding for 200 guests on a budget of $10k for everything. By choosing Queen Bee for our reception venue, we saved a ton of money, our guests had a wonderful time, we were able to relax on our important day, and in short everyone was happy. All in all, she was honest and upfront to deal with, she was professional and made accommodations for us. Her crew worked hard, but delivered what we wanted 97.9% of the time. What little details escaped us, turned out not to matter anyway; there were no unfortunate surprises. Here is a list of the specific things that went right: * The location in the heart of North Park was easy to get to for our many out of town guests, close to the Lafayette Hotel where we had a block of rooms. And it was a short drive to the ceremony site at Harbor Island Park. * Queen Bee arranged to help us rent a lot across the street for parking for our guests. For the late-comers (including the grooms!), there was cheap garage parking just a couple blocks away. * Alma recommended us to a great bakery that gave us the cake we wanted for a very reasonable price that included delivery. * One of the best things about Queen Bee is the arrangement of the space. We had a DJ up on the stage, along with the wedding party table, buffet and bar was in the middle room, we had 18 round tables and chairs in the main ballroom, we set up an X-Box lounge in the middle room, along with the pool table. We had a fabulous drag entertainer with her own dressing room in one corner, and a sound engineer and follow spot operator at the back of the main hall, the bathrooms were clean and spacious, plus the staging area and outdoor smoking patio in back. So there was a lot going on, but it never felt crowded. * The décor was simple and elegant; we chose to have local artist's work on the hallways in the back. * Alma's daughter catered the hors-d'oeuvres and the other food came from El Comal. Alma took care of all of it. No one went hungry or ever had cold food. * Alma hired bartending students for the bar who worked for straight hourly pay plus tips. We supplied the alcohol. Again, no one went thirsty, and no one got (too) wasted. * DJ Cassanouva (sp?) kept the pace moving all night; he was another one of Alma's recommendations. In summary, I can truly tell you that I recommend Alma and Queen Bee's for their thoroughness, professionalism, price, location, and community connections. She worked hard for us, and we couldn't be happier with the result. read more

This venue is a place where people thought it was supposed to be a place of business but unfortunately this was not the case. My sister and brother in law had paid for the venue not only did they do that they have offered for catering and that of employees who were supposed to be professional in my line we are professionals we know how to greet customers and make them feel welcome in our establishment traveling from texas to california at this specfic venue i was totally disgusted this venue had to many health code voilations bathroom was so not clean, her caterers was so late 2 hrs to be exact, employee's was having some fun with the guest. Some employees was smoking weed while children where present although it may be legalized in California it is not legalized in my eyes when kids are present. Furthermore employee's should and will not consume alcohol while on duty especially eating the food that was not offered to them before the guests had eaten, not only did this establishment had done all of this they had put away all the food while there was guest that had been coming in to the party. As we have been directing guest to where the food was they had been coming back to the front of the establishment telling us that there was no food keep in mind the food arrived 2 hrs late in which the party was supposed to start at 5pm but had started around 645pm and then to put the food away around 7pm or 8pm come on people i know how to run a catering business i know how to be professional and this establishment was neither of these to things. So if you want your money taking for bad service Queen Bee on 3925 Ohio st. San Diego. Then go to Queen bees if not find a better venue and services. This establishment does not deserve not 1 or 5 star they deserve to be checked by a health code inspector read more

The venue itself has a wonderful space with a main hall, stage, three unisex bathrooms, a side room for bar and food and a nice patio. Too bad the staff is disorganized and the event planner wasn't even around for the event except for setup. Held a Graduation event that included catering for 200 but food was more than an hour thirty late and wasn't enough for 200. Plus the food was terribly greasy and bland. They included security at the door (nice guy) but there was supposed to be a parking attendant and there wasn't. Further more their staff was nonexistent during the event and started tearing down the decor, tables and chairs before the event was even scheduled to end. Additionally, some of the staff was drinking the alcohol we provided and eating the food we paid for before, we even offered some to the staff. I would not recommend this venue unless you have your own catering plans and have a coordinator to help facilitate the event. read more

Queen Bee's is a great venue for many types of artistic events, but I especially come here for the Tuesday nite Train of Thought open mic ($5 cover charge). If you love live music, spoken word poetry, and hip-hop, this is the place to be! You will make friends here just by attending; there is a wonderful sense of community. Gill Sotu is the amazing performer and host, so talk to him if you ever want to sign up on the mic! read more

We booked this place for a January 2015 event months ago. It took us weeks to finally talk Alma, the owner + person we needed to bring the deposit to to tell her we were on the way. When we got there, not only was Alma NOT there, we were told they booked someone else on our day, after we booked no less because they made more money. Went here for an open mic night to support my sister who was performing. Such a welcoming and open minded group of people hosting the open mic events ! I'm a really shy person and I don't get out much but I honestly felt at home here like I was hanging out with people I've known all my life. I highly recommend people to check out the open mic nights. cover fee is like $5 bucks which is perfect. Only thing is of course its in the North Park area so finding parking is a pain in the ass, but the fun you will have in comparison will defeat your frustration of not finding parking. They also host a lot of different public events that I would love to check out. read more

Although the space is nice, and the event turned out well I would not recommend this venue. There were several planning issues on their end, and several occasions where they went back on their promises. We were told we would have several days to set up, and were not able to. Also they double booked our event and we were rushed out the door the second our time was up. It was not a pleasant ending considering people were chatting and having a good time. Ten stars!!!! We just held our daughter's 16th birthday party bash there last night. In the main room, we had a DJ, photo booth, and light show. In the inner room, my husband's jazz ensemble gave a live performance for the parents. Amazingly, these two music environments stayed separate and it worked. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Everything was awesome. The staff were incredible: on top of everything, helpful, experienced event hosts with great suggestions. Alma and Jeff suggested the DJ and the photo booth folks; we could not have been happier with both. The cake was by Harina Dulce and was gorgeous and delicious. My daughter says it was the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER! And the security guard is a well known Latin percussionist to boot! The jazz musicians went nuts when he played the congas! Vendors were given the option of 100 booth rental or 30 dollars and a donation??? Wow, Jeff or Alma must have access to books? Anyway you can see by their reply that greed was their motive. The poetry slam/competition that's here every second Monday of the month is amazing. The place is a lot bigger than you think, so don't get discouraged by the long line you might be in. The poets are amazing and it is so worth it. Only downside, they don't sell any kind of food or drink before or after. read more

We had to move to a back room where we were told to go to get alcohol and when we got there waiting in line, they they didn't have materials to open drinks!!! lol the live music was cool. and there is lots of room to dance but its not that kind of place.but only if you make it haha read more

I checked in here for the Zumba classes deal. $50 for 10 classes! It's originally $7 a class so I'm saving $20!! I've been going for the past three weeks, and I love it. It's a great mid-week work out, and you sweat so much! Absolutely fun work out! Rosie is an amazing dancer, and I never feel the pressure to do it exactly like her, but I think it's fun trying! Definitely recommend it to first time Zumba dancers. read more

Wow! Such a great venue with a stage and bar area. We attended the kickoff party for SACRA/PROFANA Season IV. They performed 5 pieces and it was amazing... Simply amazing.. Although, it was sooo hot inside. There were a handful of fans blowing and the doors were left open, so I don't think there was any air conditioning. Whatever the situation, it was very hot. But.., other than the heat, this really is great venue. read more

I love this place, I've been here for salsa twice now and plan to continue. Love the location, the instructors are super nice and fun, and overall I like what Queen Bee's has going on. Plus the prices for the classes are excellent. The place is a bit small, but that doesn't bother me. I just don't like their bathroom so much, it has that icky old wood smell in it. Great venue. Very spacious. Plenty of available seating if that's your preference. Sound system is good. Many bars around from this place are walking distance. Pretty decent stage size. I visited Blue Agave Club and Queen Bee's. While Blue Agave attracts 99% Hispanics, mostly 1st generation Mexican-Hispanics. You rub shoulders with: Pedro, Enrique, Juan and Maggy, Ratio of men to women is that 3:1. If you are taller than 5'10", you can pretty much see over everyone's grape and probably touch the ceiling. Music was spread across: house, cumbia, salsa, merengue etc... Security present in the house - overweight Samoans. Queen Bee attracts mostly Anglos, and non-Hispanics, meaning, you have the more properly adjusted crowd, rubbing shoulders with Kelly, Heather, Arjun, Yuzuki, Hunter, Terrell, and Bryce (the accountant). With more square footage to cut-rug, and a ceiling several feet above, your clear to show off your moves. No alcohol here, and the repertoire remains in the box with selected Salsa, Bachata, Merengue. Always a cover charge. Have fun. read more

What a San Diego gem of a place for fun, entertainment and passion without piles and piles of downtown vibe, which anymore is just plan hard to describe. This place is much classier to get a drink, dance, and have a good time. If you don't like to dance and are focused on craft cocktails - this is probably not up your alley. read more

Great small venue and the owner Alma is very, very supportive of the arts and is heavily involved in the community. We hosted an open mic here back in September and currently putting on a benefit show next Thursday to help the victims of typhoon Megi. It's in North Park, so parking is difficult especially on the weekends. There's a quaint cafe in the back room that has drinks and snacky type foods. The space is very versatile and has lots of potential for folks who might be interested in booking their next event here. I love how there's so much diversity in their programming and I look forward to hosting more stuff here! read more

I usually get bored quickly after starting a new workout. I can't see myself ever getting bored with Zumba. This is a high energy class that feels like I'm out dancing in a club. Whether it's a one or two hour class, the time flies by because I have so much fun. The music is great and the dance moves are a lot of fun. I have been telling everyone that I know about these classes because I love them so much. Great salsa and bachata classes for cheap! I consistently have fun at this place. I've been for other events as well, and enjoyed myself. The zumba was so-so and I probably wouldn't go back for that (it was too slow for me, but might be just right for other people -- there were also kids taking the class), but everything else has been really spot on. Train of Thought on Tuesdays at Queen Bee's is bottom line the place to be. If you are a poet, singer, artist what have you definitely check this place out. Also if you love to see local talent its always a great show. $5 cover well worth it. Last nights show was hilarious, heartwarming and fun. The crowd here is like family and the host Gil and Deacon are two really cool guys. I have been going here for now 3 weeks working on my stage skills as a singer and the response from the crowd is phenomenal. At train of thought the motto is "We got you" simply put we do. All luv regardless if you miss a beat forget your lines or whatever. A great place to be and a really comfortable environment. FYI I will be performing every Tuesday here lol.
