Here I cannot fault Meat Candy - the meat was plenty good enough for a hot summer day's lunch. There's more to a barbecue restaurant, though, like sides and sauce. It's here Meat Candy falters, because they appear to have no time to deal with it. After placing your order with the terse lady in the window (to be fair, I wouldn't want to be in a black metal box in the middle of a parking lot during the hottest time of day, either), you get your pulled pork or ribs along with a couple of scoops of generic baked beans. You can then choose to pump some sauce on it from store-bought mass production barbecue sauces (though one of those was a mustard-based sauce, which is my preferred sauce and not easily found in the area) and find some place to eat. Or if you ordered the rib sandwich, a place to go sit down and start shredding the meat from your ribs to make enough trimmings to place on a bun without biting into bone. A rib sandwich doesn't really make much sense, when you think about it. Meat Candy sets up in the parking lot of a food court, which makes them by default better than the Popeye's and Taco Bell contained within. Compared to Montgomery's actual barbecue restaurants, though, they don't really compete.
