Delicious! Uncle Mick's is similar to a cafeteria as you walk up to order and see your food choices at the counter while holding your tray. They even let you sample the dishes if you can't decide or worried about spice. The best deal is to get a Split Regular Plate where you can pick two entrees and two sides. I got the Crawfish Étouffée and the Shrimp A'La Creme, and they were amazing. The family enjoyed the Tilapia in Lemon Butter and Crabmeat AuGratin, the Alligator & Sausage Piquant was a hit too. Meals come with a variety of side choices and with garlic bread or cornbread muffin which both are yummy! We had a big crowd (14) so we had a reservation and sat in the side room which provided plenty of space. The Christmas Market and events were going on so it was crowded, but Uncle Mick himself came out to help with the line. My coworker and I both had a good experience here. First off, I want to say it's cafeteria style dining. For some reason I didn't know this and was caught off guard when we arrived. Nothing wrong with it, just was not expecting it. The service here was excellent. Everyone was very inviting and friendly and offered samples of everything to make sure you got the right food. We ate at Uncle Mick's this afternoon and really enjoyed the meat and three specials they have daily. $14.95 for a regular size plate and $12.95 for a smaller portion. This includes a meat and three vegetable, drink (tea or coffee, sodas are $1.00 extra, and a dessert. It's basically an order at the counter line and you have the option of seating inside or outside. The Staff were very friendly and helpful if you have any questions. The dining room was quaint and a little small but it was nicely decorated. The only negative thing I have, and it's not really that bad, but the food and drinks are served in/on paper products with plastic utensils. The store front is a charming combination of old time benches, chairs, signs, birdhouses and plants. The inside is an eclectic mix of art, signs, and taxidermy. It has a homey feel. There's a turtle painted on the floor and a beautiful stained glass lamp in the ceiling. I was warmly welcomed and asked if I had ever been here before. Plates and options were explained and samples were passed my way. The food here is amazing and I had a hard time choosing. I wound up with a split regular plate. Crawfish étouffée and shrimp and sausage Alfredo were my split entree and black eyed peas and green beans were my sides. It was a lot of food and came with bread. These people know how to cook. If I closed my eyes, I could have been eating my mama's peas and beans. I ended with bread pudding with bourbon sauce. It's $6. It's worth every penny. I chose to have a small split plate and he had a regular split plate. The difference is in the size of the entrée. Menus are posted on the wall and they are also available online if you want to plan ahead. Everything has a Cajun vibe. Not everything is hot and spicy, but everything is extremely flavorful. There's nothing planned here. The people who work here are friendly and helpful. You don't have to wonder about anything, just ask. Noticed that Yelp had this place ranked high with a solid 5 star (actually 4.8) rating. Now that's quite remarkable. Never seen that before. Decided to give it a try even tho wifey was bucking it. Cajun is not her thing. Before we even left the hotel thumbs were turning south. Wifey had grilled tilapia with lemon sauce over white rice and a side of cole slaw. Warm corn bread was also provided. I had the sampler - 3 smaller portions of three items with two sides. Entrees were shrimp and mushroom in a light cream sauce over white rice, shrimp creole over white rice, and a sausage/chicken gumbo over brown rice. Each dish had a very distinct flavor. Shrimp/mushroom dish had an earthy flavor which I liked. The creole was classic, I could eat a pail of that combo. Sausage/chicken had a strong smoky flavor, it was very rich. I could not finish it. Green beans and red beans/dirty rice were my two sides. Green beans were way over cooked and very watery. Red beans/dirty rice did not have eye appeal. Garlic bread and corn bread were provided. Upside - food portions were generous and served hot. A big plus. Downside - eye appeal was lacking. I left the place satisfied and wondering what I would order next time. Wifey commented that I'd be going by myself, not her thing. Definitely worth a try. I would recommend taking your time when ordering. You feel pressure because there is a line behind you. Study the menu beforehand and have an idea of 1-3 things you would like to try. Sample before you order. Again, my sampler had three very distinct flavors.
