I hired this Company 5 years ago to re-stucco my house. I know that's a long time after the job to be posting a review, but things just keep getting worse. First of all, the mess they left after completion of the job was unbelievable. Told Joey about it and he promised to come by and clean it up, but he never did. They cleaned their tools in my vegetable garden and left piles of their stucco, trash and beer bottles all over my yard. I knew I was in trouble when I witnessed the whole job being mixed in a 5 gallon bucket. I should have known then that I was in trouble. The mixture was so weak that the slightest brush against the wall and the stucco falls off. The stucco at the bottom of the walls just falls off into my flowerbeds. I had a section of wall that was so bad before the job that the stucco fell off the wall like powder. It's that way again a good inch of stucco is on the ground. Soon with heavy rains it will leak into the house. If you use this company I hope you have better luck than I did, God only knows what it's going to cost me to repair their mess. read more

We sandblasted our entire house and went with base coat + color coat option that Joey (owner) recommended since it's an older house. There's a lot more to stucco than you think, and during this entire process, I learned a lot from Joey. I just want to say first off it's an intense project and requires a lot of patience and flexibility in understanding how Joey's team works. Expect it to take between 1-3 weeks of work depending on what you're doing. If you end up hiring them, I would recommend you put your complete faith in their work and let them handle what they do best because the outcome will be great. Joey's team takes pride in what they do and considers it an art form. He didn't promise me a 20/30 texture finish but ended up shooting for that because he cares. He's got a lot of things going on in the background, wrangling his team, materials, schedules, driving, etc. so sometimes schedules won't work out the way you thought it would, but I would say be patient and things will be ok. If you have a residential property in LA, you may have to rent a 4-yrd dumpster from a private vendor which should be factored in as additional cost. read more

I discovered Quicksand after a long list of disreputable companies tried to sell me a bunch of hogwash. Some background: 8 years ago I wanted my house painted and got talked into Tex-Cote, a truly awful product that started bubbling and peeling off the house a few years later. A few weeks ago, one of those predatory companies that canvass neighborhoods looking for work scared me into accepting a ridiculously high bid, which, after discussing with friends, I cancelled. Several calls and bids followed; some who wouldn't even bother working in LA County, some insanely high bids, and some insanely low. After hiring a guy on the insanely low end (warning!) who worked 45 minutes with high-pressure water and said it wasn't going to work and I would have to have the house sandblasted, I found Quicksand. Joey came out to look at the house and explained how and why the others' bids were too high or low. He answered all my questions openly and honestly (oh, and FYI, they are the company others subcontract sandblasting out to). He gave me a very reasonable quote, and was the FIRST company to know Long Beach has very specific laws requiring testing for lead paint and permit for sandblasting! I paid a reasonable deposit, with payment for sandblasting and stucco due after each was done. Communication was excellent. They scheduled the job promptly, showed up and completed the sandblasting in one day. I picked a stucco color and finish and the stucco crew was out and doing the job in no time. They did a beautiful job! The crews are courteous and hard-working, and Joey supervised the project from beginning to end. They even came out the day after the stuccoing and installed new vent covers since there were several missing, and the rest were beat to hell. All in all, a wonderful experience! A year ago l had Quicksand Sandblast and Restucco come out and sand blast and stucco my house. Joey promised that I would be completely happy with the quality of his work. When they brown coated the back side of the house, it was not done properly, there were areas that were not even with the rest of the wall. I immediately brought this to Joey 's attention, he assured me he would take care of it. He did not take care of it, instead the stucco was applied on top of the wall. I continuously complained about the job not being completed to standard and to my satisfaction. Because of my continuous complaints, they came back out and threw another coat of stucco on that wall but, the finished product was unsatisfactory. During this time, I found out that Virgil and Son's, the company doing the stucco work is owed by Joey 's mother. If I had known that Virgil and Son's has a very bad yelp review, I would of never agreed to them doing work on my home. The West and the North side of the house was brown coated,stuccoed and fogged the same day, this did not allow for proper curing of the brown coat. The rest of the house was stuccoed and then fogged while the stucco was still wet. As a result, there are cracks on the walls. Since the work has been completed, I have been in constant contact with Bonnie from Virgil and Son's , complaining to her about the cracks on my walls, she assured me she would take care of the problem. She kept reassuring me even throughout the present covid 19 situation, that she would take care of it, she never did. Finally, I called Joey from Quick Sand Sand Blast, to come out and look at the cracks. Joey came to the house, looked at the cracks on my walls and told me that there was something on the original walls that was expanding and contracting therefore creating cracks on the walls. I asked him, didn't you Sand Blast the walls. He did not reply to my question and advised me that my house was moving. He advised me that he would do a procedure to rectify the problem but was not clear on the outcome of the procedure and if it would in fact fix the cracks. Very unprofessional! I call on Friday and told I will get a call back in a few minutes. An hour and a half later 'Joey' calls (sounding very sketchy) and tells me how messy the job is going to be, he would prefer if we could meet sometime before 12:00 to accommodate his schedule (he suggests 11:00 or 11:30, or as close as possible to the end of his prior appointment to minimize his day - he will call). It turns out the homeowner can only be there between 11:30 and 12:00, Joey calls at 10:55 and says he can be there in 35 minutes, but now he wants to meet at 12. I tell him the homeowner will be there at 11:30 and he interrupts me and says 'I'm just going to back out..." with a real snippy attitude. Joey and his crew sandblasted and refinished our home in 20/30 stucco and gave us a beautifully uniform and fine finish. In fact, they did such a good job that other contractors we have had work on our home have been unable to match the finish when they have needed to patch any holes made in the exterior of our house. We have called Joey back to help us restore the areas that the other guys have messed up. Joey is also a very honest business owner. When we did our initial consultation we were concerned that the finer 20/30 stucco might crack and Joey initially recommended putting a coat of a special adhesive between the brown coat and the color coat. That step would have added significant cost but we were ready to pay. After starting the job, Joey decided that the adhesive step was not necessary (and he was right, the finish hasn't cracked) and didn't take the easy opportunity to charge us more money- even though we would have just taken his word for it and paid the extra money. I hate giving out these kinds of reviews but i have no choice. I hired Quicksand to blast the old paint off my house in preparation for new paint. I wasn't expecting all the paint to be gone as some of it was adhered extremely well. I wanted the loose stuff off so the painters wouldn't have to scrape so much. Well, several sections were blasted so strongly that it ate into the wood surface which necessitated a lot of extra work by the painters to repair that. I had new windows installed prior to this work and I was assured by Quicksand that they would mask everything and my windows would be protected. Turns out that whatever masking they did was insufficient as a lot of sand is now stuck to the sealant that seals the aluminum wrap around the windows. There is also a significant amount of sand inside the windows in the tracks which now requires me to take out all the windows from the tracks and clean everything so the windows don't grind the tracks down. Looking at the perimeter of the house there is sand everywhere. It appears that no effort was made to clean up the sand that fell to the ground. There is also a large patch of sand in the middle of my front lawn where they must have dumped the excess out of their machine. They sandblasted the wrong fence as well. I told them not to sandblast the fence on the side of the house as it would be replaced but they did it anyway but neglected to sandblast the back gate that leads to the alley which I requested that they do. Shortly after they left I was at the house and not only did I find food trash strewn on the driveway but the green recycle bin was full of trash from their work and more food trash that I then had to clean out and move to the proper bin. I called Joey twice since then to have him at least clean up the sand around the house and my wife also texted him but we never heard back. He charged us $2000 for this work and we feel pretty ripped off. So do not use this company or you're likely to regret it. read more

They do some of the work and then inform us that they cannot return for another WEEK to finish the second & final day of work. They threatened to walk off the job if not paid their deposit. I informed them that we agreed to have our building sandblasted and did not agree to wait another week after already agreeing to be rescheduled. They threatened to walk off the job again. You don't need to threaten, hit the road... I'm not certain what prompts someone to start a project and then leave because they don't get their way. Seems childish and unprofessional.
