When my mom arrived, things got even worse. There wasn't even an office -- just a girl who came outside and asked for her ID. When my mom explained that her husband hadn't slept all night because his medication was locked in the car, the girl looked her straight in the face and said, "I don't care." That was her exact response -- no empathy, no professionalism, no basic human decency. What I got instead was one of the most degrading experiences of my life. The tow company ("Roadside Heroes" / RVA Roadside LLC) never gave me an address. I had to track down the location myself through a reverse phone lookup -- and even the police couldn't find the place. Every time I called to ask for directions, the driver hung up on me. Multiple times. Even when I was still at the hospital. When I finally found the lot the next morning, he kept me waiting outside a locked gate, then told me on a call that he had me "on speaker," mocking me while I cried to my mother in what I thought was a private conversation. When he showed up, I asked a simple question, and he told me, quote: "In all my 8 years, I ain't never dealt with no ghetto bitch." When I told him I'm a 52-year-old woman, he said I sounded like a "52-year-old child," pushed the gate into me to keep me out, and threatened to have me arrested for trespassing and assault -- for standing outside his own business waiting to get my things. I never touched him. I never cursed at him. The only thing I said was that his behavior was racist. His response was to threaten a false police report on the spot. When officers arrived, one told me flat out, "Don't talk to me, you talk to him." No report was filed against him. No accountability. Just a Black woman in pain, standing outside a gate, being talked to like she didn't matter. If you are a person of color, be careful with this company. If you're anyone at all, be careful with this company. This is not how you treat a customer -- let alone one who was just in an accident and is trying to get her own property back. I am filing a formal complaint and pursuing this further. This should not happen to anyone.
