And here I am trying to stay awake in the fog towing a big trailer without a hot cup of coffee, and my gas tank heading towards fumes... On Thanksgiving, no less! Found me a Speedway, and pulled in. Gasoline prices are hysterically high, and at $4.99 a gallon, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Too tired to do either. I ambled inside and found a small but clean and well-stocked gas station store. The restroom entrance is sort of behind the counter, but the nice young lady behind there told me to help myself. Clean restrooms that didn't make me contemplate projectile vomit. Bonus. I filled a 20 oz. Paper cup with hot "100% Colombian" coffee. Looked burned but passed the sip test, especially after a liberal amount of French Vanilla creamer. The gal behind the counter was really nice-- we laughed a bit about how her grandma was doing all the cooking this year, and I smiled and nodded, knowing I still had a lot of kitchen duties ahead of me when we got home from camping. Easy on and off the freeway, and while the Starbucks at the same exit wasn't open yet, I can't say I wanted to try navigating the lot with my trailer anyway. Besides lots of pumps--which means you usually don't have to wait--and competitive pricing---makes it a great choice. It is has a large convenience store with lots and lots of snack foods. There ice cream and candy sections were middle-of-the-road. They also have an automatic car wash. I guess if you want cheap thrills you can leave your windows down when you drive through it.

This place had poorly stocked shelves of this and that and a tired person at the check stand who told me in a bored voice "no public restroom" Thinking perhaps it was one of those "buy something, damn it!" places I smiled and said my partner was even at that moment pouring our hard earned cash, converted to gasoline, into our battered Toyota. No public restroom, was his reply. I muttered, but softly, "well, I could, of course, use the floor...." but I thought that would probably set a very bad example for my waiting son. So I left.
