This is a "to die for" shop. They have so many different kinds of fabric and not just cotton for quilting. They have projects sitting all around for ideas. Love this store. I know I'll be back. Wow, talk about an amazing quilt shop! I wasn't expecting much, considering it's in the tiny, off-the-beaten-path town of Port Gamble, but still wanted to check it out for local fabric goodness. I was so wrong. This place is a true gem! The shelves were lined with any and all types, brands, styles, and designers of quilting cotton that one could possibly need. There were bold prints, subtle neutrals, a rainbow of solids, and of course tons of theme fabric (including an impressive selection of fall-themed items). Scattered throughout the store are sample quilts to provide inspiration, along with a variety of books, patterns, and how-to guides appealing to any level of quilter. Besides fabric, they have quilting supplies, a huge embroidery section, and any notion you could need to get going on that next project. The woman in charge (she might have been the owner - I forgot to ask) was incredibly helpful as my friend chose fabric for a quilt. This place was so amazing I'd honestly consider making a trip back to Port Gamble just to check it out again! Bonus: her prices were $2-3/yard lower than many specialty quilt shops I've visited. Made a special trip to this quilt store today only to find a rude employee telling my daughter her dog was not allowed in the shop. My daughter tried to explain that she had and can show the letter her physician wrote for her. The lady said dog hair and fabric don't mix. My daughter then explained her dog was hypoallergenic. The woman with no apology finally said she could come in. After being humiliated in front of other shoppers we left the store and will not return. read more

My latest trek to this gem left me with six yards of the best Alexander Henry fabric ever. It has owls. I also scored a great fat quarter stack for 45% off the original price. These kind of sales for this fabric is almost unheard of. The selection: tons of beautiful Asian prints (Mom is finishing up my geisha girl quilt all with fabrics we found here), popular prints, wools, and flannel. The tools are basic. There is a huge workspace in the back and the women do not mind if you venture back there to lay out your fabric choices. Love that. What makes this place unique? They carry a ton of Australian quilting magazines and patterns. I can only dream of being that creative. This may not be the opium den-o-fabrics you have in mind, but for small town, you cannot beat the selection or the prices. read more

We stopped by today and I am in a wheelchair - there were really no areas I could not easily get in and out of. The last time I was still walking and lingering was such a joy! (Pre-pandemic). The selection of cloth to chose from is the only down side - THERE ARE SO MANY BOLTS OF AMAZING designers, colors, fiber content. Spotted the umbrella hanging from the ceiling with the most whimsical whale pattern - only to find that both the umbrella structure and an aside pattern make it a fabulous gift idea for friends who live in places it doesn't rain all the time! (I'm an Alaska lover)... The staff is ALWAYS helpful, all friendly too - which is short supply in some of the other quilt shops I've been in recently. It is always a delight to go and reign myself in from investing entire retirement in projects. Great place! read more

Oh My Gosh! IF you are a quilter you should take a drive and go here! I have found the ladies in the store to be helpful and nice, and I've been there on 3 separate occasions. They asked me on the first visit if I wanted to be I their "system" (to earn credits) and I still am, and it's been a while since that first visit. They have a huge selection and I enjoy browsing and looking for things my local stores may not have. It is well worth the drive (or ferry ride). Prices are comparable to quilt stores and the fabric quality is what you expect for a quilt store (way better than what you find at Joann's or Walmart or other places like that). read more

Quilted Strait - Embroidery class this fall - Fabric Stores Near Me - Port Gamble, Washington

Yesterday my daughter and her wife tried to shop at Quilted Strait. While the clerk was friendly and chatted with other customers coming and going from the shop, they were completely ignored, even when they stood at the counter to make a purchase. They eventually left without buying anything. Quilted Strait is not welcoming to LGBTQ or people of color. read more

What a fabulous quilt shop in a lovely setting and staffed with such friendly, knowledgeable staff! I was afraid when I moved to the area I would have to resort to ordering fabric online until I found Quilted Strait! The selection of fabrics is amazing, from batiks, prints, to solids. They even carry Valdani floss, wool, and felted wool supplies. Whether I am dithering over fabric selections or need technical advice, they are there to help! This is a destination store for fabric lovers. The owner has been devoted to quilting for decades and, having owned a quilt shop in a neighboring town for five years myself, I do feel qualified to recommend this shop as well worth a day's drive and ferry ride. The comments about unfrlendly workers cannot be a reason to avoid this shop. If you feel you are not treated in a friendly manner, just say so. These people are adults and are hard at work in a business that is not just as simple as sitting behind a counter all day long. This is hard work. This is a hidden gem and you should make it a point to stop by on the way to the Olympic Penninsula. A great selection of high quality fabrics. This is a destination shop in a lovely setting. Should be five stars, but staff is cool toward new customers and even a "hello" coming in the door would be welcome. I would like to see a more consistent stocking of the needful items quilters` need (notions, threads etc.) I have taken many classes here and find it frustrating to no be able to buy the items on the supply list. That being said, the classes are terrific, and there is enough variety to always find something interesting. Treat yourself to a visit soon! read more
