She was clear that they have phased out accepting senior dogs who haven't been their clients. She also said I needed several days of daycare to assess temperament. It sounds like there may be some disconnects between this company's policies and what their reps say. This can probably be remedied with some training. I appreciate the kind response from the business owner (+1 star for that) and wish Friends of Toto all the best as they get the communication issue with prospective clients sorted.

If you look at my reviews, you'll see what happened to Albi Bear before. And how I came to find Linda. I went on an interview spree - I went to different places, met different groomers... I finally decided one afternoon to call Canine Design and ask them if it was okay to just drop by. This was the first time anyone said "Yes, we'd love to meet you!". Haha, you want to meet a high maintenance dog owner? Points to you, my friend! I brought Albi Bear with me because it was our day together, and Linda and her husband wanted to meet him, so I brought him in, and even though Albi is a bit stand off-ish with new people, they took the time to let him come to them. We went right away and set up an appointment. Fast forward to appointment day, and I see Linda has made it so she had all morning with Albi. I thought that would be great, because if he gives her trouble, it would give her time to get her job done. Well, the appointment only took an hour! He was a perfect gentleman, she even let me stay in the lobby area, and he let her do everything! She talked to him, she even laughed at the funny faces he makes when he hears her dog... Anyway, she did a fabulous job, and Albi was stress free. Fast forward to about a month later, she managed to squeeze him in for a last minute session. Unfortunately, because they were busy, Albi was left unattended in a crate for a few hours, and I was told he had a "little bit of diarrhea" which turned out to be that it was a lot but Albi ate it and later proceeded to vomit it in my car. Was I given a refund or discount for not watching my dog? NO. and you pay a pretty HEFTY fee for Canine Design! So after that, I have tried to make sure he does not end up in there for too long, which I have to insist on because even when I say this before the appointment, the other lady who works with Linda sometimes will say "OK come by at 4pm" when it is 9am. Hahahahaha... no. I would recommend this place, but just make sure you really are the hover doggy parent and know your dog and any of his anxieties. If none, YAY! You probably can save money and take him/her elsewhere, but if yes, Linda is fab but make sure they will have time to really care for your dog. Update: I was informed Linda's assistant is no longer there, which based on what I went through, might just be a good thing. Linda and her hubby are probably hands down the best. I was also told the grooming fee for Albi is the norm, but I have 3 receipts in his little folder that have 3 very different prices. However, pricing shouldn't matter for a doggy parent (usually!).

Bad experience with Heidi's in home pet care. After a long interview that went over our…read moreexpectations and our reluctance to use a typical kennel facility, we felt comfortable that our dog was going to be treated, for the most part, as their own pet. We discussed in length about how our dog is not normally left in a kennel for extended periods of time and we didn't' want that for him. We were told that the business owner would be on vacation and in the middle of moving so she was going to have one of her employees keep our dog at her home (we also met with her several times), We were told that our dog would be in the home with her and kenneled if she had to leave. She even mentioned at one point that our dog would probably sleep with her son (we did not expect that). We were also told that the business owner might be able to pick him up and take him back to her facility after her vacation. We opted to keep him where he was to make it less traumatic for him. When we dropped our pet off, we provided the sitter with instructions for feeding and reiterated our wishes on how the dog would be cared for- limit kennel time, never in the kennel with a collar on, don't keep him in the heat too long.. etc. Our first facetime call to check on him we could not see our dog, and when asked where he was, she said he was in the kennel because she had to rotate dogs in the kennels to keep them safe. We can appreciate and understand that, but we were never told this is what was going to happen. When we did see him, he had his collar on which we explicitly said we did not want because it could get snagged and choke him. We facetimed a couple different times the subsequent days, and I even tried calling at different hours each day and every call except for one he was in the kennel. I would ask if she could take him out so we could see him, and he would go straight to the water bowl and gulp water like he hadn't had any for a while. When this was questioned, we were told he did have water. We have never seen him gulp water the way he did even after a couple mile walk when he is hot and tired. We called the business owner to express our concerns, she asked what we wanted her to do, and I said go get our dog, and she said that is not an option as her facility was not up and running yet. She acted like our concerns were not valid, and said it was a problem that I was facetiming so much, and we are only seeing a snippet of what is happening. While I agree we only see a snippet, when you call at different times and it's always the same thing and he gulps water the way he was, it clearly appears that he is in the kennel way more than we were told. Upon picking our dog, up he was outside in their fenced area and his gums were grey, which is a clear sign of dehydration, and we noticed an injury on his head. The sitter said the cost would be $15 more a day then what was already agreed upon, which was resolved. Once home we also found our dog lost 5 pounds, even though the sitter told us he ate great. We fully understand some dogs will lose some weight under stress, but we weigh him weekly and has consistently put on 2-5 lbs a week and never lost an ounce. We called the business owner the next day and our concerns fell on deaf ears. The business owner was very defensive, and we were basically crazy for expecting what we did. We were told our expectations were too high and ended up hanging up on us. Even if our expectations, were too high, we made them clear during our interview and they still took on the job. Had they said this is how he would be taken care of, we would not have used this facility. We sent a text recapping the conversation and expressing how unhappy we were with the whole situation but have yet to get a response. A little customer service goes a long way, and they didn't do anything to ease our frustration. Let's just give them the benefit of the doubt and say he wasn't kenneled much as we think, I don't understand how he can come back with grey gums from dehydration. This clearly shows he didn't have access to water. When we asked about the injury to his head, the owner stated they were fully aware of that, but nobody bothered to tell us. We still don't know what happened. We do not recommend this business and will never return.

She took her time getting to know Mav before we left so he would be comfortable with her coming into the house. Heidi even did an emergency wellness visit for us while we were at work. That said, I'm glad I can kick off Shaggy Dog Spa's Yelp existence with a postive review! The short review: Unless I can find a comparable place with cheaper prices, I will definitely be bringing my pooch back to Shaggy Dog at least once a year. Now the deets... I had been searching for months for a trusted, experienced groomer for my beloved Lhasa. I spoil him rotten, so I was concerned about entrusting him to someone else to cut and wash him. I found Shaggy Dog because I bring him to Abbott Valley Vet right above. I later learned that I knew someone who was working there seasonally, so if she was there, it had to be a decent place (she loves her dogs as much as I love mine). I finally sucked it up and called to make an appointment. I kept getting voicemail, so I left a message requesting a call back. It did take about a day for the owner to call me back, but it is a small business, so that is forgiveable. I was able to get an appointment that same week. When I brought my dog in, I was greeted by the owner and one other employee, both of who gushed over my pub. I felt he would be well-attended there. The owner asked how I would like him groomed, and I filled out a form with all of his information. I really only needed him cut, but I was advised that the cut would look better if he was bathed, so I agreed to that; no nail clipping though. She told me he would be ready within three hours, and I requested that she call me when he was done so I could come get him (I was worried about him being in a crate for a long time since he is not used to it). I received a call in two hours that he was ready. And ready he was! He looked so handsome and perfect; I have never seen him so white! He came out of the grooming room with his tail wagging. I love that she cut him to maintain his breed characteristics and added a fire hydrant printed scarf around his neck. She also cut around his eyes (a very difficult area) so well. Oh, and he smelled amazing! I'm not sure what shampoo they use, but the smell lingers for weeks -- even after another bath. My one con is that she didn't cut him short enough, which was most likely a misunderstanding. We clip him really short to keep the time between cuts to a maximum, but it is unusual for his breed to be that short. The cost? $40 for a bath, cut and groom. The price also would have included nail clipping if I had let her do it -- maybe next time since I now know they can be trusted. The staff at Shaggy Dog Spa are friendly, helpful and, most importantly, love dogs. I highly recommend them.
