R&D Contracted through my insurance to tow my car to the shop. They were very timely, a half an hour before promised. Which is great, because it is freezing out today. I am safe and warm at home, but I can't help but imagine, what if my car was disabled and I was stuck outside waiting in this weather? That half an hour would mean a lot!! Company was to tow out vehicle via a AAA call. We asked for the garage half a mile away from our house (location of car). Car never arrived. For about an hour the answering service couldn't find the car. when found it was delivered to the wrong garage across town. When the car finally made it to the garage we chose...late for the appointment...it was determined the car was dragged onto the flatbed based on flat spotting on tires. Representatives of the company refused to accept responsibility and blamed AAA for not giving enough information. My wife tried to tell the driver where to take the car and he refused to listen. I had a towing done with these guys after slipping off the road when it was a morning with really bad black ice. When the tower was unloading my truck at the auto body shop he ended up damaging my frame more and I was a bit concerned. So when I asked if that was normal he said, "no", and directed me to call the garage he came from. When I called I reached one of the owners and the only thing they had to say was, " well you shouldn't of went in the ditch". Now I found the way they handled that rude and careless enough to mention a bad review atleast. Also again, there was black ice which alot of people can slip out on there bud. Actually one of the officers was dispatched for another person slipping out while confirming I had someone coming to tow me. Which unfortunately was you guys, who I will never call again. read more

Bullcrap auto inspection. Failed inspection for a few things I can fix for out of state rebuilt title but I also was failed for a couple of very small spots of rust on the rocker panels and was told I couldn't repair them with fiberglass and minimal adhesives and yet the online requirements says it can be used at a minimum yet I was told that the rocker panels had to be replaced. This is not about safety folks because you can't tell me that a clear title vehicle is safe that I see on the roads here with Way more rusted rocker panels than a rebuilt title vehicle that has way less rust on the rocker panels and the fact that they say can't be repaired with minimal amount of adhesives. This is about money and not safety or ALL vehicles would be held to the same standards. If a rocker panels are structural on a rebuilt title vehicle then it is structural on ALL vehicles. TLDR: Shady people, will never get my business again. I had initially gotten a quote to replace the suspension (front+back) on my Audi A4. I dropped the car off the night before, when I called at 1pm the next day they "..were just getting into it." I received a call around 3:30 that same day stating that they had broken a part (steering knuckle) in the process of attempting the job. The gentleman continued on to say that they were going to get a replacement part from a salvage yard and then put it back together, but because it was going to be too much of a hassle that's all they were going to do. I was told that I would need to pay for the broken part but they would eat the labor. I asked if they could at least change the oil (oil+filter provided) they said they would. The following day after they had replaced the knuckle they broke I went to pick up my car. Begrudgingly I paid for the "repair" and my oil change. When I went out to start my car it was completely dead (first time this has ever happened, up until this point I had never had an issue). I went back inside and was told "well, they did have the door open the whole time." The gentleman jumped my car and I was on my way. The following morning my car started relatively normal with only a slight delay (as if the battery was having a little trouble), but seemed fine. I went to work and on my lunch break I went to start my car, dead again. I called R&D where I was told that it was probably my battery and that it couldn't possibly be their fault, Rich (the R in R&D) then went as far to say "...it's not like we swapped your battery for a bad one, if that's what you're thinking." (I hadn't implied nor even mentioned this as a possibility). Rich then stated that he couldn't tell me anything over the phone and I would have to bring it in to be tested. I showed up at 5pm (after I had gotten out of work)and waited patiently for the women at the desk to acknowledge my presence while she was on the phone (8 minutes later), she then went on the floor and informed Rich I was there. Rich came out and asked what he could do for me, I stated I was there to get my battery tested. Rich told me "well all my guys have gone home.... *sigh* are the keys in it?" To which I replied "yes, and it's still running, I don't want to turn it off incase it dies" he pulled my car into the shop where 4 men gathered around my car (everyone was supposed to be gone). He came back and presented me with a readout of the battery and told me that it would need to be replaced. "Alright, thanks" I said, and left. I went to advanced auto parts and picked up a new battery. Went to my local garage and had them replace the "bad" battery with the new one. I brought the old one back to advanced auto parts to get the cell deposit, but asked him to test the battery before he took it, because the whole thing just wasn't sitting well with me, he tested it and the battery tested fine. So needless to say, I will not be going back to R&D ever, and I will continue to tell this story in hopes that it saves someone else from similar circumstances. read more

Love this place! Honest and friendly staff with great knowledge about cars. After finding R&D, I try to wait and bring all my cars to VT to get fixed. (I live in NJ). They do quality work at a reasonable price, servicing everything from the minivan to a Mercedes. Last year they swapped out a ticking engine in an Infiniti for me. These fellas are the real deal. By far best service I have gotten. I drive 20 minutes out of the town I live in to have them look at my rigs -only wish I had found them sooner. I took both my Saabs to get their eye on it and although the news was less than rainbows both times (go figure saab) they had solutions, parts, connects to folks in town who do body work that they sometimes don't, and what felt like life advice (half joking here). Bottom line: they know their stuff and are damn good at it. UNLIKE other mechanics who just rattle off what you need to pay and care not to elaborate on what the parts and the job pan out to be DAn and Ian were thorough, gave their honest opinions and brought me under the car to look at exactly what was going on. Although I'm not too psyched on having to throw money & parts at my car to get it vt road worthy- I am looking forward to having this crew as my go to guys. Not only fixed my car but explained what's wrong, how to keep it up, I am not car savvy at all so where other people would have overcharged me they helped and explained things to me. I was staying at the lake nearby when my car started to make a rattle. I went in to the shop for help and they fixed my problem in 10 minutes and only charged me a smile. It felt like serious hospitality to a total stranger. Maybe the fix was easy, but I couldn't figure it out and it was causing concern because we were 5 hours from home. They checked other things to make sure I was good to go, as well. The place was clean, inviting and very friendly. I would definitely recommend it. How we do anything is how we do everything. How they handled the smallest problem says a lot about how they would handle the larger ones. read more

R&D is the service provider for a major roadside service organization to which I belong. With a dead battery on a cold (-10 degree) day I called the organizations toll free number and reached a dispatcher in Michigan. Within 10 minutes of ending that call Danny from R&D called, he was two miles from my location, he picked me up and drove to the location of my dead automobile and had me up and running within 5 minutes. This really is the best place in the area to bring your car. They are very knowledgeable in their craft, and they are also very friendly. I don't know much about cars, but I never feel as though I'm being pushed into something, simply because of my lack of knowledge with cars.
