I'll spare the public the drama - just a base warning. I would not recommend this company at all. The owner and his son are very nice charming people and they will promise you the moon, but they don't deliver. I really regret hiring them and had to hire another company to fix everything they did. Their crew does poor work, leaves huge messes, and breaks things. They did make promises to repair the damage ($12,000 of damages) but they ghosted us. Not reputable. Robert was friendly and responded within a day. He came to our home and gave us a quote for removing three trees. We paid him cash, so he removed another tree for free. I am happy that the trees were removed from our backyard as they had really thick roots coming up. The reason I wouldn't recommend this company is due to the lack of accountability when it came to the broken items in our property by his crew. Robert told us about a few sprinklers possibly getting damaged during the process. We did not expect to have our flag poll light broken, in addition to the concrete in our drive way and backyard being damaged/ chipped from the equipment. The backyard concrete is scratched . There are still a few thick roots left behind in addition to a lot of wood chips. We did call him immediately when we noticed this, but he said the wood chips needed to be watered and the roots left behind, we would have to remove when we landscaped our back yard. I wish the guys he sent would have been more careful. We just bought this home, and now I regret hiring R&D to do this project for us. It's been 3 days since I made my second call to Robert. After our first call I then noticed the damage to our concrete floors. I called and messaged him to notify about the damage I found after his crew left. He doesn't return my call or text messages. Not sure what can be done, honestly. We paid him cash and he didn't provide us any documentation of the work. I would have appreciated a call back or at least hear just a simple "sorry". My fault for not supervising the job. I hate to feel taken advantage of. We were too trusting. This was our experience with R&D company. We hope no one goes through the same experience as we did. If you need trees removed this is the tree service to call, I did and I'm happy with their work. I couldn't believe how fast they got the job done. Good safety practices and an efficient crew. They removed 4 redwood trees and 4 palm trees from my small backyard. They were careful so no branches fell into my neighbor's yard (as the trees were very close to the fence), or onto my patio cover. They ground the stumps down and cleaned up everything real nice. I would not recommend R&D tree service if you have a big tree that is close to your house. They charged me 3,000 to remove a big tree from my yard and $60 extra to grind another small stump and I understand it was big and mistakes happen, but as a licensed business I expected more from them. I should have looked at their yelp reviews before even hiring them as well. Well what happen is that when the workers were cutting down the tree a branch slammed into my house and made a hole. The next day the guy came to finish grinding my stump to which he didn't grind all the way he missed a spot which I also understand because it was a big stump and it's hard to see everything with all the mulch, the boss ended up making that right when I contacted him because Erick started ignoring me after a while. The following day a guy did come to patch the hole in my house and I was outside talking to him when he told me he wasn't done and telling me he still needed to repatch and sponge it to make it look like my stuckle but he told me it won't look exactly the same but he will make it look close to it, so I said ok thats fine I understand it won't always look exactly the same. He said he would let the business know he wasn't done and had to come back when it dries to just give it a couple of days, but I'm guessing they told him no they wouldn't pay him anymore that he never came back. That's when I messaged Erick (by the way he's extremely unprofessional all he does is make false promises and apologizes than he will ignore you) anyways I let him know that the guy hasn't came back and he says I'm sorry I thought he was done with the job which I doubt that, because that guy assured me he would let them know he wasn't done, so it made me think since I gave them the money (a big mistake in my part) they didn't care anymore. Erick did message me saying the guy would come by on a Monday and I waited all day and he never came so I messaged him and he said he would be by on the following Tuesday I waited again and he never came it was just false promises and apologies with that guy until he decided to ignore me. By the way I also had another big tree in my backyard that you guys were charging me 2,800 to cut down but that one is close to my house as well and it made me think you guys might cause damage to my roof that I just replaced 2 years ago and you certainly wouldn't fix it like you didn't fix my stuckle properly. It's a bummer because even if the workers didn't do a bad job with my tree the owners were unprofessional in not fixing my house properly like they promised and now I'm going to have to come out of pocket for the extra cost that I shouldn't have to do in the first place. I'll give the owner credit for sending his worker out to finish grinding my stump he sent him out the following day when I contacted him and told him Erick had been ignoring me and that was unprofessional of them as a business. The following day I messaged the boss about my house as well and he ignored me just like Erick did and to this day he hasn't messaged me even though he said he would fix both problems he only fixed one which was my tree stump. I'm not this type of person to write reviews like this and I even told Erick it's very unlike me to be this way, but all he did was apologize until he ignored me about my house and so did the boss and that's why I'm writing this. It's been since May 8 since they cut my tree there is absolutely no reason why it should have even taken this long to send someone out and I don't need them to anymore either I don't want you guys to even try contacting me anymore with your fake apologies. What you guys do to your customers is wrong if it wasn't for how you guys handled this situation I wouldn't have had a problem but you guys handled this poorly by ignoring me and not doing what you promised you would. read more

A few months ago Robert did a great job cutting down my HUGE redwood tree. Hard worker for sure! He took special care not to break windows or cause damage anywhere (yay!). Terrible customer service. Robert promised to finish work on a $3000 job, and didn't follow through. He avoided my calls, texts and voicemails. We paid to have 2 trees removed including grinding. The weather was bad the day of the removal and he promised to come back when the weather was better to finish the grinding. This was in January, it is now May and he finally responded to multiple texts/calls to say that it was going to cost additional money. When I asked what took so long to respond and why the additional money, he continued to interrupt me over the phone and said he didn't want the work, so hoped avoiding me would get me to stop calling. Had he been upfront from the beginning I would have already had my work done but now I'm looking for someone else to do it and will have to pay more. DON'T PROMISE SOMETHING AND NOT FOLLOW THROUGH! Let me start with they did a nice job of trimming the trees, but the job went down hill from there. The clean up of debris from the tree removal was terrible, stumps were not removed as promised and a small grove of saplings were left untouched. I would not recommend or ever use R&D Tree Service. I would highly recommend if you do think of using them that you do two things 1.) get a signed contract of what is to be done. 2.) never ever give them all the money until the job is completely done. This is where we made our mistake. They came by the house to collect even though the job was not done. They begged and pleaded to be paid because they had to pay their workers. They promised to complete the job that night. We fell for it which was a big mistake. They have never made any further effort to complete the job. We have called them numerous times and they promised each time to complete the job. The son and father are not what I would call men of their word, in fact the father now just hangs up the phone. I have a different for them. Anyway I guess it is a lesson learned. read more

This job went really well and really fast. They came out the same day we called to do an estimate then did the job 3 days later. We had 3 olive trees trimmed and 21 bottle brush trees removed. Response time was excellent and they provided an estimate quickly. Good communication. Large job removing trees, cutting back shrubs and completely removing old overgrown ivy and large trunks. Our problem began when they were chipping and debris shot all over the street and the neighbors car. The neighbor was upset. I asked them to apologize to the neighbor and they did but said: sorry if you think we got debris on your car. Not quite a professional approach. Sadly, the workers denied it happened at all. I saw it myself. I guess the owner that we called upon to remedy the situation decided his workers were doing everything right. They were using rented equipment and I think they did not operate it correctly. Huge chunks of wood were flying out the back. The final clean up was not good. Had to ask them to do some areas again and they still left debris behind. They removed several trees from our backyard. I discovered later that a tree or limb had fallen onto our patio umbrella and broken it. It had been set back up precariously to look right, but is broken beyond use. We chose this company on a good recommendation but I would not recommend this company. read more
