Two years later after RM Fence installed wood fencing and side gates. Everything is falling apart it is constant maintenance. The gates don't close they're not attached to the wall anymore the wood material used it's such poor quality. Gates no longer close wood is literally peeling off. The latches on the gates pulled right out if the wood, such low end wood and low end latches. Looked OK brand new for about six months and then everything went downhill and started falling apart peeling breaking Using this company was a complete waste of money. read more

Ive gotta echo some of the previous negative reviews unfortunately. Mark and Zelma are super nice and easy to deal with, and the estimate process was smooth and easy as well. But now that we've lived with our gate for over 6 months, I have to say the quality just isnt there. I had a carpenter take one look at the gate right after it was finished and he said Id be lucky if it lasted two winters. He wasn't lying. We already had them come out to fix the gate not closing properly after a few days of rain in january. The fix job wasn't the greatest experience but they did manage to get the gate closing. now months later, I've realized they just cut corners all around. The gate looks good, but it just wont last. They didn't use any proper bracing, the latching fixtures are super flimsy, and the posts they used were half the size of the previous gate we had. The gate is already sagging and I really doubt itll last very long before we need to fix it again. hate to leave negative reviews but after seeing a few other people echo the same comments, I thought Id add our experience. read more

I was really stressed about taking on this large 180 foot long fence replacement project at my house. I recently purchased a new house and needed to install a fence to keep my dogs inside their play area and far away from the pool. I called R&M Fences based on their excellent Yelp reviews, and it was a great decision. Mark came out and learned what we wanted and sent us a fairly priced bid. We had a delay on materials which held up the project, but it was worth the wait. Pepe and Sergio built me the most perfect fence. They worked their tails off on one of the hottest days we've had all year, all day long, welding, drilling and measuring. They asked me to check their work along the entire process, asking exactly what I'd prefer at every turn. They understood the project and worked so hard to help create a safe fence for our dogs. They also made an existing backyard iron gate even more secure for me, again measuring, welding and painting until the finished product was showroom gorgeous. These are true craftsmen who take pride in their work, and it shows very much. The job included a difficult turn around a spiral staircase, and they cut and finished the fence perfectly, and worked around trees, closed gaps, etc. Everything I could have possibly asked for. They worked for a day and a half, and didn't leave until I was totally satisfied. I am beyond thrilled with the fence that Pepe and Sergio built for me. The wood gates that we had R&M Fencing put in never closed correctly after the first two weeks they were installed. We had Mark out two times to fix them and the fix never lasted. Also the experience with Mark to have to come back and do the job correctly was not pleasant. One year later we are having another contractor add bracing. We are not happy to have to spend more money on gates the we spent $8K on that never performed the one function a gate should perform "Open and Close" Wouldn't recommend them read more

Marc and Zelma and the rest of the crew are AMAZING. We had them replace a fence that had been falling down for over a year with a brand new beautiful wood fence and gate. So great that we had them come back to put in a second gate. And when I had an issue with the second gate's placement (not anyone's fault, just a communication mishap), the crew came back a few days later and resolved the issue right away. Wonderful people from the owners to the crew - very kind, and on top of their game when it comes to fences. They even had to deal with my extremely fussy neighbor (we were splitting the cost), and everyone came out happy. I couldn't be more satisfied with my fence and gates, and R & M Fence will have a customer in me for years to come - there's more fence to fix and more projects to be done. This was a relatively large contract, involving about 150'-200' of redwood board-on-board fencing across 2 residential properties, including 2, 45-degree slopes and several gates. The build quality was outstanding, and our specialized design requests were executed to plan. The company deploys a small team of permanent, full-time builders, with obviously deep experience. Construction moved along at a good pace, and all elements were plumb and level. They use brass screws, quality metal braces and hinges. There were no Bozos on this bus. read more

Mark is awesome, I recommend him 100%. He was great to deal with. He is friendly, accessible, honest, and conscientious. He installed a fence around our back yard to finish and match the one we started in the front. I only got two estimates for this job. The first was a fence company that was also highly rated on Yelp. Mark's bid was substantially less and he impressed me so much at our first meeting with his knowledge and his professionalism that I hired him immediately. I had to wait about a month for his schedule to clear but when the job got scheduled everything happened according to plan. The lumber was delivered the day he said, his crew started the morning they were scheduled, and he finished the day he promised and the work was perfect. There were some extra costs we added to his estimate for sealing the wood but he told me from the start that that would be my responsibility. In the end the total cost was still below the first estimate and I'm so glad I got to work with Mark and his wife Zelma! Fencing is a big job, and so important because you're going to look at it everyday. Be wary! these owners are very nice when calling in to inquire about a job and during it...IF they respond and show up when asked. There always seemed to be more "pressing" or "bigger" jobs taking place, so that feeling of insignificance is bad customer service. The job actually looked great when completed. Then came the really bad customer service. The wood began having issues so we called to have him (Mark) come and take a look. His wife wouldn't even have him come out and made many excuses as to why it was not their responsibility. They had their money and they moved on. We were actually referring them to some others until this happened. Not any longer. they lost any future business from us and all our referrals. read more

I used R&M Fence to replace 65 feet of old fence with a horizontal wooden fence in our yard around the pool patio in 2 sections. The design, work and finished product are amazing!!!. Marc, the owner , was awesome to work with from the first appointment, to rereviewing the bid with us, to doing the job, and even called after it was done to amke sure we were totally happy! I got 5 bids for this job since a high quality redwood horizontal modern fence can be pricey. R&M was the best bid, but more importantly we saw how engaged Marc was in the bidding process and he showed us a huge photo book of his previous fences that looked great and really was a great responsible business owner to deal with. He was patient with us when finalizing color and offered stain color samples on a piece of wood so we could see it up close live rather than pciking the color off of a paint/stain chart. I am fussy and have a good eye for detail and Marc was met my high standards. His two employees are great adn have been with him for many many years, which is also a good sign. Quiet, respectful and work very clean. They communciated with my neighbor and assured her that her side of teh fence was just as important to them. I even made a change to the heigh of one section of the fence after they were done and Marc made the change happily and quickly at no extra charge. They even stained two wooden planter boxes for us at no extra charge. Nice not to get nickled and dimed. We replaced our old and nasty fence with a beautifully designed redwood horizontal fence with lattice. We took many bids for the job, but Marc at R&M got the job for a few reasons: He said he would be here at 10am, he was here 5 minutes early. I am on a steep hillside in Sherman Oaks and needed to fence on my property to meet city requirements for new pool construction. They put up a beautiful wood fence on my upper hill and a hard to see, black, chain link fence on the lower hill. The steep and uneven topography is very difficult to work on, but they got the job done. I called several companies to come out and estimate building a fence I was sharing with a neighbor. Marc and Zelma were very accommodating and came up quickly. Their price was very reasonable and based on the other reviews and photos here on Yelp, I was comfortable going with them. My neighbor had very specific ideas for the fence and explained them to Marc. Marc agreed to all that my neighbor wanted and we set a date. 2 days before the construction, I got a email stating that they were running behind on another job and asked to reschedule. I was fine and appreciated the early notice. They showed on the new date ( 2 days later) and had to deal with my difficult neighbor. Marc came out and did what he could to make him happy. There was minor alteration requested by my neighbor which increase the price but it very fair. The overall job was GREAT. The work was professional and the workers were very nice. I kept waiting for this guy and his company to come and install frames, big garage sliding door and two small gates since 2015 begging of summer. He said he would match another estimate that I had then said he cannot match the other estimate and wanted more money. So we agreed on a price and a time frame when he will resume the work. Then when that time comes to install the fence I didn't hear from him, so I emailed and ask him about it, he said he is stuck doing another big job for a "celebrity." He said he would start my job and I was on top of his list (blah blah blah). Then we agreed upon another time for few months later on September 2015. Then September came and went didn't hear from him so I emailed him. He said "his welder had a heat stroke" (excuses excuses... Haha). At this point he apologized and said he won't be able to do my job cuz it was taking too long to do it as he promised. So I asked him when can he do it... And that I can wait. So he said on November 2015 so when I was waiting and November comes he said he would not be able to do my job because his welder's "father died" and he has to go back to his country. So if you like me waiting for this guy to come finish the work, good luck! I suggest you go elsewhere! read more
