We were at our wits end and getting discouraged as this was a new engine with less than 100 hours on it. As my wife works in the industry at a business with a similar name, we reached out to see if they could figure out what was causing our issue. Derek was very helpful and courteous as well as thorough with the inspection process. After a couple of days he figured out that water flow was being restricted at the transom due to a clogged inlet that was described simply as "mush". We obtained a new transom and had it installed. Derek called us up and said there was no more steam, the temp was back to normal and the motor was running fine. After picking up the boat, we took it to Elsinore for a test run with no issues. What a relief. For the scope of work performed, the cost was reasonable. That being said, everyone knows what BOAT means! Lol. A big thank you to Derek and the entire staff at Advanced Marine Service! Now we are bound for the river!

A few days…read moreafter going through our boat, he wrote us a lengthy 1 page email detailing everything he found (down to missing screws on the cowling), things that needed to be replaced, things that should be addressed, and items that he found that he said we could do ourselves if we wanted. We took our boat in (which is a big deal since we store it in a slip) to have them do our yearly service. Like most boat owners, we do our best to keep it maintained but also are aware that the boat had some deferred maintenance. They gave us a reasonable quote for the service and we asked them to go through the motors and give us a laundry list of items that the boat needed- and like most boats, it needed a lot. What we appreciated most was that they gave us plenty of options. Foe example, our hydraulic rams were pitting and leaking during the inspection and he gave us options down to each individual piston whether we could rebuild them, replace individual pieces, or replace the entire system, and his professional opinion on both. He showed us how our T-stat housing gaskets would leak due to corrosion and showed us how they cleaned it up and used a marine gasket maker to seal it and stop the leaks. It's not a permanent fix but the motors are 20 years old and we're just looking to get back on the water- not replace an entire engine block. When we went to pick up the boat he spent 30 minutes with us showing us everything that was done and answering our long winded questions. Before we left, the nice girls at the front desk gave us some official Honda Marine hats. Anyways, 10/10 would recommend.

We had to already postponed our trip to the Channel Islands for a couple of days for other reasons, so for them to have this part was a miracle. I had called earlier in the day and received a call back from George and Jerry about the part being available, they were very kind and helpful. When I arrived they made sure to make sure my old one lined up with the new one by measuring the specs on it, I found this to be good business practice to ensure your customer is getting the right part they also offered the part to me for a great price considering I could find this in the same day. I got a used motor and it went bad within the 30 day warranty. Brad offered to trade it in for…read moresame brand (Johnson) and same horsepower (115) for a newer year, 1986 for a 1989. Sounded good to me. Unfortunately for me, this engine blew out while I was starting it in my drive way. It was about 3 months past the warranty, I called Brad to take a look at it to find out what was wrong and have it fixed. He took a look at it and then never got back to me. I called Elio and he told me Brad didn't want work on it and it was probably my fault it went out. WTF. That was in February. Now I got to get someone else to fix it and need to get them info on it. So I go look up serial number. Turns out this Johnson was not an 89, it was 1979. My impression of their used outboard business is this: They get the motors working, slap it on your boat, and hope it lasts past the 30 day warranty. I am super disappointed. I could say more but I am done typing. Check my profile. I never leave reviews. I felt my experience with Amber Marine was so bad I felt compelled to leave this review. They suck.
