I hired Harrys Marine to diagnose an oil leak and an overheating issue that I had in my D4300. Unfortunately, the previous boat owner's mechanic replaced an intercooler and when they installed it, they pinched a O ring which caused a very small constant raw water leak that was at the bottom of the engine outside of any easy inspection and small enough that the bilge was never overly wet. This leak ultimately caused the oil pan to fail. At the same time, I had the whole cooling system gone thru. Kyle coordinated my haul out along with the engine removal for repair. He was very transparent and invited me down to the shop to go thru every part, showing level of wear and suggested options to repair/replace. Engine was fixed on time and the cooling issues were rectified. A week and a half later I noticed some black soot drops in the engine room along with soot buildup around the turbo and exhaust. Thru pictures, Kyle identified that this connection was not properly assembled by the boat yard that ultimately re installed the engine. While the mistake was not his, Kyle sent out his mechanic Mike to my home port to fix the issue at no charge. Not his mistake, but he went over and above to take care of me and get my boat running perfectly. This type of customer service is so rare these days and I truly appreciate the culture of customer first at Harrys. Thanks to the whole team. read more

took boat in for shift cable check/replacement, harry's said it was fine, charged $200 for broken part and b.s.. had to replace shift cable myself once i found cable would not move. i had high hopes for this place and was extremely disappointed in their service. i will never use them again and suggest you don't as well. read more

After breaking down multiple times at sea, it seemed like we were spending more time at the boat mechanic or getting towed in than fishing / wakeboarding. We decided to try Harry's Marine where Kyle walked us through all the options. Instead of pouring more money into an 19-year-old engine, we did a full repower - the engine and the outdrive. When it was completed, Kyle took us out for a sea test and thoroughly explained everything. It was awesome! The whole experience was great. Seeing my dad say "Oh sh**t!" as the boat accelerated from a stop was really cool for me to witness. The new setup puts us over 40 knots top speed whereas the old setup struggled to get going over 28 knots. Everything (including gas efficiency) about this engine is better - they really have come a long way. Before we decided to repower, my dad and I looked at used boats - they all seemed to have the same issues as our boat with its original engine. We looked at new boats and the prices are just insane (don't forget about luxury tax too). I think repower is the way to go and the place to make that happen is Harry's Marine! read more

They both are very experienced mechanics and went over all of the issues, giving me options on what should be done. The best choice was to replace the engine and repair the Volvo Penta unit. It's easy to understand why. She got a controller head turned around for us in no time and was extremely thorough in determining not only that we had the right part number but double checking our serial numbers so that the part was programmed correctly in Mississippi. Harry's marine spoke to my insurance company and got me a brand new drive. The drive was replaced and I got my boat back within three days. Fast forward to September 2020. I urgently needed some parts for my Volvo Penta D4 so I can be on the water for Labor Day. Went to Harry's Marine and offered him 500 cash for $200 worth of parts if he would take them from and existing engine he had there. He said I didn't need to do that because he could overnight me the parts. As promised I got the parts and should be on the water for the Labor Day weekend. honesty and fairness goes a long way and he surely earned my respect. I used to go to Newport Boats in Corona, where I bought my boat, but they closed so I was searching for a replacement shop. My boat ran into Mission Bay sand in 2012 and, being a total noobie, I never got it flushed and kept on going. Long story short (towed out of MDR in 2013 and a 5 year layoff) the first conversation I had with Tammy seemed like the right call to make(pun intended, lol) so I made my appointment. Ron took good care at drop off and sent photos of the progress. They were able to get the block flushed, all the regular deferred maintenance done and me back on the water in MDR (the scene of my first on the water tow) for a shake down in a little over a week, one of which was the holiday weekend. So Newport Boats stopped doing service on all boats and I was kicked to the curb like an unwanted puppy in the Bronx. I found Harrys Marine and guess what?!?!?!?!? Kyle at Harry's Marine did it again! Harry's Marine added a DPS to my Volvo Penta set-up on my Tiara 44 Coupe and did a great job! Not only is the install very clean, at the same time Kyle ungraded me from ESC 2 to ESC 4 so that I have the latest bells and whistles. During the DPS calibration, Kyle identified a rare problem in my port transmission. Rather than ignoring it, Kyle went through a number of careful steps to diagnose and fix it so it was right. After watching all of this unfold first hand, I can easily say that Kyle is the most knowledgeable person with Volvo Penta drive systems and all of the related electronics that I have ever met. First off, thanks to Tammy she was so nice to me. I got a Monterey boat with Volvo penta needs annual service. After left my boat there for one day diagnosed they said engine was locked up and unable to break it. Their recommendation is a new Volvo penta long block rough quote 10 thousand usd. They offer to buy my boat for 500 usd. I took my boat home call other mechanic changes new fuel pump and oil changes. Now my boat turn key to start and run good. Finally they do nothing charged 110 usd for diagnostic. NEVER COME BACK. read more

Employees are up to date on Volvo bulletins, even the new diesels and are well-trained. Harry, the owner is a wealth of boat and engine knowledge and one of the nicest guys around. Great service and honest. I took my boat in for annual service and an oil leak in the outdrive. Unfortunately, the repairs were more extensive than I anticipated. Kyle gave me a couple of repair options (bare bones fix, fix and basic maintenance, and make-it-like-new). He also explained the pros and cons to each option, as well as the prices. I decided on the middle option, and Ron and Kyle were great to get everything completed very quickly and thoroughly. I appreciated the fact that they took pictures and sent them to me so I could see the extent of the problems as they moved through their repairs. I reached out to this mechanic in November, we went back and forth for over 2 months sending them my inspection reports, driving out to the boat to take pictures of the error messages, following up with them as they do not follow up with you. After all this, Tarah tells me that they are too busy doing bigger warranty jobs and for me to call another mechanic. I told her that this was not fair and that we've spent months and I didn't want to start all over again. She said I agree, it's not fair, let me talk to Kyle the owner and see if we can fit you in and if you don't hear from me by 4pm, call me. I didn't hear from her so i called and left a message, didn't hear back again so I called an left another message a few days later. Didn't hear form her again so I called again and she was at lunch. I explained the situation to their parts guy and asked for Kyle. He said he was not in so I told the parts mechanic that I'm frustrated and what do i have to do to stop getting the run around, do I have to write a bad review. Kyle the owner calls me back in minutes from the office number, the same kyle that was not in the office just 2 minutes ago. He says that it's not that we don't want to take your job, it's that we're backed up until April. He starts getting upset and says you're going to leave us a bad review because we're backed up. I explained to him that it's not that you're backed up, Tara told me right off the bat that she can't fit me in until March so I already knew that and was fine with that, the issue is that i'm not getting any kind of response so that i can know what i need to do. This is the way a business should be run. I bought my first boat about two years ago. After about a year in a half the engine warning light came on so I contacted Volvo to find out where to go get the boat serviced. I ended up at the local service shop which was a joke. The service was horrible and for some reason they could not fix the problem even with the warning code. I called Volvo back and they put me in touch with Harry's. I called Harry's right away and Tammy put an appointment on the books. Kyle came to pick up and drop off the boat himself from Orange (90 minute drive). He explained what he thought was causing the warning light. He was right and had the problem fixed, boat tuned-up, waxed and back in the water very quickly. The last time we had our boat serviced charging us Thousands of $$$ they left the oil cap off the engine they serviced and rags in the engine room. Luckily we found it before to much damage was done. Then they didn't even apologize for the mistake. They also do not like to answer emails, their phone or questions. They use to be good - i guess the generations are starting to show. read more

First off, I would like to thank Kyle and his team for the great job fixing all the issues that I had on my Volvo Penta KAMD 300. I purchased the boat last year from a private seller and had the engine surveyed by New Port Diesel in Oregon. They stated that the smoke is normal and the high temperature while cruising is normal with these engines. Last year I had a hard time keeping up with my friends boat chasing tuna and decided to bring it in to someone that specializes in Volvo diesels. I found Kyle and team on Yelp, dropped her off and just picked it up yesterday. I dipped her for a test drive after and she felt like a brand new boat, all issues gone. He told me over the phone what to check, test and how to clean the contacts with sandpaper and use WD40 to lubricate. He saved me a service call and hundreds of dollars in labor fees.
