Although his quote was a little higher than other contractors we chatted with, we decided to go with him because he was very responsive, attentive to detail, and earned our trust. I feel like we're lucky to know Romeo -- the "R" in R. Duarte Home Improvement. He's done a few different jobs for us: a total renovation of our basement, a bathroom remodel, and emergency repair work (because our house is ancient). The company is very fair in its pricing. And there aren't tons of "surprises" halfway through a job. Also, R. Duarte's team shows up! ON TIME! Every day of the job -- not just the first day. If you've ever spent half a day and made half a dozen calls to an MIA contractor, you'll appreciate R. Duarte's work ethic and communication about how a job is progressing. They're also very neat as they work. Our basement remodel was pretty involved. From my weak drawings and many Pinterest photos, Romeo created a wonderful, comfortable space for a family room, office area, a craft space, laundry area with sink, a big coat closet and -- the best part -- a beautiful full bath with walk-in shower. All the walls are perfect. The paint job is awesome. I can't say enough. I'll try to get before and after pictures up -- or at least the after pictures. We hired Romeo and his crew to do an extensive renovation of our house. The work included a total teardown and rebuild of a very old, poorly designed kitchen that was split over two rooms. Romeo's team worked with us to suggest a new, much improved design that involved structural supports, moving windows, moving plumbing, gas and electrical, and a total redesign of the layout. All this work was completed for a very reasonable price and great workmanship. We were especially pleased with the attention to detail in matching the original Victorian era trims and features of the house. Romeo was always willing to work with us to add extra projects to the list (including renovating the laundry, mudroom, front porch) and went to extra lengths to ensure great results, such as finding and fixing leaks in the roof. Romeo and team are awesome. Do not hesitate to give them a call. We bought a 119 year old home in Weehawken NJ that was well maintained but we wanted to update it. This included gutting the kitchen down to studs, leveling the floor, which was unleveled by about 3 inches, adding a first floor bathroom(home did not have bathroom on first floor), moving windows that did not make sense with new layout of kitchen, gutting 2nd Fl bathroom and moving wall over 40 inch to increase size to accommodate a shower, close doorways that made no sense, add closet space which did not exist, gut 3rd bedroom on 2nd Fl to add insulation and new sheet rock, added new windows to 1st Fl living room(you could see right out the bottom of the old windows) and 1 in the 2nd Fl bathroom, added cross beams in attic to sirup the A-frame roof, lay new hardwood flooring in attic, sand and refinish all floors and update all electrical(including a fire hazard of an electrical panel box), gutted the laundry room and full bathroom in basement. They did all of this and the home came out amazing. Romeo is attentive to your thoughts and designs. He will create the image you have in your mind. My architect had the basics down on the plans but the details are what make the job outstanding. Romeo added built in shelving to the 2nd Fl bathroom and living room which added so much detail to an already great design. I am sure I'm leaving out some details but you get the gist. Romeo is always available and will help you with all the options(there are a ton of options). He is trustworthy and a great guy to deal with during such a stressful time( we needed to move into this house as our lease was up). read more

My husband and I closed on our new home recently and scheduled an appointment for him to come in and give us a quote on our kitchen project. We attempted to call various times to find out if maybe he was stuck in traffic and was running late. We left VM messages and never received a call back. You can tell he really knows his stuff. It's rare to find a contractor who truly cares about the quality of the work, but Romeo took his time to make sure everything was perfect. Romeo was really responsive in all communications so all the coordination process was very smooth. His team was timely (I asked them to come at 7am and they arrived promptly at 6:55), and painted our townhouse beautifully. Some areas are open floor plan which can be difficult to paint, but Romeo and his crew had no issue getting the job done. Pricing was reasonable as well. I contacted 4 contractors and I would say Romeo's team was right at the middle in terms of pricing, but given the quality of work I think he and his team are very fairly priced.
