However, they are very expensive and push the boundaries of being honest and fair. We recently had a leak in our main drain pipe in the basement and called Papalia. They charge $99 for a consult, but it can be used towards repairs. They diagnosed the issue and then wrote up a proposal to fix it for $900. It sounded expensive, but we already paid the $99 and didn't want to start over again from scratch so we agreed. The plumber also misled us about how simple the fix actually was. It ended up taking him about 20 minutes to replace a 3-foot section of pipe with PVC. He also "forgot" about the $99 credit deal and tried to charge us $1000 and we had to call him on it before he would agree to honor the agreement. So they fixed the issue, the job seems to have been done well. But we way overpaid and every step of the interaction felt designed to mislead and extract as much money as possible from us. Not going to use them again in the future.

I told them I would do it myself, and reinstalled the original thermostat, which worked fine. 2 months later (in December) the furnace stopped. I called them, they said they would try to get here that day. We waited all day with no response. They came the day after and said they needed to order a part, but could not tell us when it would arrive. Into the weekend, after 2 full days without heat, they said to get heat on the weekend would cost $1200, or $700 if we waited until Monday or Tuesday. We chucked them and called another company. That company said this was a common problem and should have been caught in the inspection. They could come on the weekend to do it for $1000, or do it on Monday for $500. I shouldn't have called back after the thermostat issue, but I sure won't call again, and recommend anyone else also look elsewhere

Of course while he was there, he tried selling me on all these silver, gold, and platinum maintenance plans. I was still charged $129.00 just to be given a ridiculous price with no work performed. But that's the idea isn't it? The customer doesn't want to just flush away $129.00 for nothing so you're bullied into having them do it no matter how obscene the price is. By the way, just two years ago they were charging $69. Apparently that wasn't enough pressure for people.
