SO much fun! I love blues and this place delivers. The people were amazingly friendly too. All-around a great time. That said, there are definitely things I wish I had known before I went. RULES - Cash-only, $10 cover charge per person - BYOB. The bar menu is very limited. They've got most straight liquor and frozen margs, and that's about it. There's a liquor store next door if you forget to bring your own, but no mixed drinks or cocktails allowed (liquor only). - Bar is 25+. The crowd is on the older side but please don't let that stop you from coming. We're all young at heart here! GUIDELINES - Shady neighborhood, so be careful. A lot of the Dallas shootings tend to happen in Deep Ellum. Once you're in the bar, the atmosphere is totally different, but I wouldn't spend too much time outside - Bar doesn't open until 9 or so. I know what Yelp and Google say, but we showed up at opening and were told (very nicely) that they were closed, so we ended up waiting around for almost an hour. The band doesn't get going until 10 or later depending on the night. They do have a DJ going before the band, but for the best experience I'd recommend getting there around 10:30 or later read more

I was in the area with my friends at another event when my friend suggested we go to the Blue's Palace. This was the first time that I have ever been here. Just some key insights if you are a first timer. This is a BYOB spot. The parking lot gets full quickly so they use the space across the street. This is a cash only venue as well. This place is sad, the chairs are filthy, the table cloths are filthy. It's bad. You would think as long as it's been there it would be a cleaner spot considering $15 a head and a setup with a bucket of ice and 2 cokes for $15 dollars. Went to RL last night with my wife and had a great time. It's a BYOB place with live blues band. The band performed great with songs from the Gap Band to BB King. They also had a Prince impersonator who was awesome. The atmosphere is mostly over 50 crowd with a small amount of 30"s. Cover charge was $10 per person and worth it, like I said before it's byob and everyone had their own liquor, beer and food. RL himself performed and you would have thought he was BB King himself. The place love him, which I found out later he do a lot of community work. If you are ever in Dallas make sure you check out RL Blues Palace. You will not be disappointed! read more

You cannot come to Dallas without visiting this place! I have been going here for almost 20 years. It's a mature crown where you bring your own hard liquor and they serve setups, (ice and juice). Pricing Onsite parking is $5. $10 entrance fee. It's a BYOB . There set-ups are $12 for a bowl of ice an 3 sm cans of juice. (Pricey) The waitresses come by often, often trying to get u to buy more. They also serve daiquiris and margaritas incase u dont bring liquor. You may bring hard liquor only. Waitresses were very attentive with great customer service. OVERALL: Everyone we met from the parking attendant to the door lady taking the money to Security, waitresses. Everyone was so hospitable. This is a nice size hole in the wall. We went on Friday. They had a live band. The man seem to be 60 and up sitting on stools but when I tell you they can play those instruments and sing. They were great, u won't be disappointed. This spot is for the older and mature crowd. If you dont like old school, blues, r&b this isn't the place for you. It's located down the street from Fair Park state fair grounds. It's an old building, bathrooms are ok. I was informed by regular that the owner and his son sung at one point, they both were great. You won't be disappointed. Fun fantastic night...this is a REAL grown folk club no kids allowed. What can I say about this little place. I like the fact that it is BYOB. There is a live band that has 3 section with 3 different singers. My fav is the 2nd singer who calls for the hens. They have a dance floor that can be really full. I like the fact that everyone is having fun and feeling the music. No judgement or standing around. You can also bring food as well. I seen many tables that had actual dinners. Intro: This is a detailed review for anyone considering this venue. Because I live 45 minutes from this place, I only had bits & pieces of info on this place before my first time there. For anyone considering it, here is a detailed review of it!!! Background: To understand this AMAZING hole-in-the wall, go listen to Mel Waiters' song, Hole in the Wall. Once you listen to the song, come back and read the reviews! It's a small cabaret-inspired type venue, on a serious budget! Cover/Parking: Cover charge is $10 pp and remote parking is $5. Parking on site is free. Get there between 8:30 & 9 if you want a park in the same parking lot as the building, otherwise, you will have to park across the street at Family Dollar. Food: Directly across the street from the club is Henderson's Fried Chicken. It's super cheap and you get alot of fried chicken & fries for a cheap price. They even have chicken backs!!!!!Don't go in expecting a 5 star, customer-oriented experience. Go get your food and leave!!!!! Entrance/Security: You will have to go thru security upon entrance. He's a kind man and I'm still not sure about his black security stick he uses to check purses and bags. The cover is $5. You can ONLY bring in pure liquor. You MAY NOT bring mixers, soda, juice, or any mixing liquids. The club makes its profit on selling you a "set-up," which is a plastic container of ice (think an empty half gallon ice cream container) and two drinks of your choice--soda and/or juice cans. Additional cans are $1. There is a bar on site if you just want them to make your drink. Reservations/Seating: Many people call for a reservation, but you MUST have a party of 10 or more for a call ahead reservation. Even with a call ahead reservation, if your full party isn't there by 9, those seats are given to other patrons who need a seat. The place is small and they try to get everyone seated! After 11:30p.m., it's usually standing room only! The Entertainment: The entertainment is incredible. Don't go critical, just let down your hair and enjoy a down South good time!!!!! The top blues songs are playing as you chat with friends! There is a Prince impersonator who amps up the crowd!!! He's called, Showtime!!!!! Around 11:45p.m. the party (and liquor effects) kick into full gear for The Infamous Hen's Show. This is where women of all sizes and ages come to the stage and for 15-20 seconds, they get to literally shake their booties to the crowd, in an effort to outshine the MAMMA HEN!!!! Everyone knows that the Hen's Show ends with a very large, plus sized woman (surley she's paid staff), comes to the stage and does a 5-7 minute sexy dance. She's approximately over 350 pounds, perhaps 400 and she makes the entire room rise to its feet!!!!!! People come to this venue from across the U.S. just to see mamma hen!!!!! You Tube Blues Palace Dallas Hens or visit their FB page for videos!!! There's a small segment for "The Roosters," which showcases the men!!!! This hens & rooster's show only takes place on Saturday nites. Mr. R.L. Griffin, blues legend & owner, performs a 45 minute, entertaining blues set that's sure to please! There is a live band playing all nite. A dj plays while they set-up. The band is AMAZING and each band member has a personality in the music!!!! Food & Drink Policy: You may bring your own food. This can be anything from a Thankshiving feast, a hot casserole with all the fixings, to a sandwich platter.....just no drinks, juice, etc......liquor only. Drinks (not chilled) are sold on site for $1 each or you purchase a set-up, consisting of an ice bucket and a choice of (2) unchilled sodas and/or juice. Attire: Attire is your choice, but most women are sexy casual with jeans/heels, jumpsuits, anything that reveals a sexy body, or just a conservative look--nobody really cares!!!! Everyone is mature and ready for a good time. Bonus: When you need a bathroom break, there is an unofficial show in the bathroom of intoxicated women who would make a sailor blush!!!! It's a "sho 'nuff good time" in Dallas!!! It's easily one of my preferred party spots with matured adults!!!! You see your old school aunts & uncles, even your moms & pops in there!!!! I celebrated the my birthday at RL's this weekend. I had a blast! The music and entire personality of the venue was fun and welcoming. It was pretty crowded and many patrons had to stand along the sides. The dance floor was consistently full and everyone was in the mood to jam along with the band. Be prepared: - The location is sketchy, which worried some of my guests (safety in numbers!), - Parking is across the street at a strip mall, - Cash only for entry as well as drinks (there is an ATM across the street) - Liquor is BYOB, but they sell beer and wine (Arbor Mist) - Age limit 25+ (this is a fun but mature crowd) This environment is completely different than any other in Dallas, so if you are prepared to experience something funky and chill, you will have a great time! read more

I have been so puzzled why there are not more venues with R&B/Blues music in Dallas. I recently moved to Dallas and when searching for a place to see some music I stumbled upon R.L. Blues Palace 2. Last night was the first opportunity for me to go. I have to tell you that I was so impressed with the quality of musicians and the hospitality of the staff and patrons. I was graciously welcomed and attentively taken care of all night. The place was not crowded on this Sunday evening which made my first experience there even more special. The live band is amazing and I witnessed to what seems to be a routine treat called the "Hen Dance" where ladies confident enough to individually take the stage all become the spotlight for about 30 seconds while the band plays the most funkiest-low down blues number of the night. This place is great, I highly recommend it. We were visiting from out of state and wanted to see some blues, we found this though google and decided to try it out. We arrived just after 8 pm. Some music started around 830. Cover charge was $10 and they had a buffet to eat. They serve drinks, but you can bring your own liquor. Everyone was super friendly, the music was great, and the atmosphere was very fun. It's not in the greatest neighborhood, but we did not have any problems. Every person we spoke to was incredibly nice and we felt comfortable in the environment. Prince even performed. If you are looking for good music and a great time, this is the place. read more

Talk about some down home blues!! I had an amazing time and my friends could not stop talking about it. I was with several people visiting Dallas and called several days before our visit to find out the particulars of how Rl's works and they responded to all of my questions and were very kind. We brought our own liquor and purchased the sodas, juices and ice from the club and mixed our own drinks and had an amazing time. My friends and I promised that anytime we were in Dallas that our trip would be planned around being able to visit RL's Blues Palace. Arrived at 12am on 2-10-17. Free parking..No lights in parking lot..security guard was drunk..trash everywhere..$10 admission..so we went in and it all went downhill from there!! Very unclean inside!!..very very very mature crowd with very immature behavior. Unbelievable!! Dress like your going to a football game and you're on point. BYOB..I should have!! Live band was fantastic that is the only reason the PALACE received 1 star. After 1 hour I could not take it anymore we had to leave. Walking out there were people at the bus stop..yes the BUS STOP at 1am!! People in the parking lot asking for change, selling CDs (3 for $5 lol), and one guy asked if we wanted to buy some food stamps..I almost took him up on THAT offer lol..just a bunch of shady characters in a very shady area. As we drove off my husband reiterated that we will NEVER EVER return again and I concurred. This PALACE is not what you want to Do LADIES!! This PALACE screeeeeeamssss low-life..low budget.
