Absolutely love this place. The venue itself is intimate and has a close quarter element that makes it super trendy. The music was awesome.

Hard Pass! Let me start by saying that I used to hang out there regularly, in the 90's, when it was a smokey, legitimate, jazz bar. It's been a while since I went so we decided to go. What a mistake! First of all, there was a $20/person cover charge. For what?! The band? The first band that was playing was four guys that looked to be drunk frat boys playing poorly and hardly knew the words to the song they played. The second band was fronted by a guy who was so flat it hurt my ears. They were no better than a band playing at weddings, which they did promote themselves to be available for. The song choice terrible! Footloose?! I know it was a predominantly white crowd but come on! Then when they did sing an Earth Wind and Fire song, they were so bad that Maurice White was probably turning over in his grave. What a sad state of affairs! read more

The Balcony Club is an East Dallas institution. It's a great Lakewood neighborhood spot. Love coming here randomly on a night with zero expectations. There's normally a cover ($15-$20) and there's almost always live music. The cocktails are delicious and they do a great job on the classics. Aviations, Old Fashions, etc are all safe bets here. Their staff is super friendly also and they do a great job of taking care of all guests. They do NOT serve food but they do allow you to bring food in (I'm not 100% sure about this but pretty sure that is the case). I do recommend getting there early so you can get a preferred spot. The seating is FCFS and the crowd is always eclectic! Makes for great people watching and sipping on tasty cocktails. read more

I came here just looking for a place to relax and be in a social setting. The location is upstair next to the movie theater so it might be a little difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for. Inside is a very Speakeasy type of location, it has a bar with various drinks and a few seats for couples or groups in front of the bar. On the opposite side there are a few tables in the corner and a back area that leads to the bathroom. There is also a small stage for performers to get on and play their music for the guest attending. There was a nice live band playing with a few people dancing to the music, a very calm and nice place to check out. I didn't eat while I was here so not sure if there was a menu to eat. read more

A hidden gem and neighborhood anchor in East Dallas has been Balcony Club for a long time. It's a jazzy lounge attached to the historic Lakewood theatre. @balconyclub It's just a cool, vintage vibe that books quality jazz and blues acts. The music is always good, but the space is the highlight for me. You feel like you stepped back in time into a big city speakeasy. The greatness of the Balcony Club is it hasn't changed its vintage charm in the 35ish years they've been around. They serve solid classic cocktails and host one of the most friendly and eclectic crowds you'll see in Dallas. It really feels like you could be in New York or Chicago. Quaint, fantastic drinks, wonderful live jazz...that is how I think of The Balcony Club. My spouse and I visited a friend and she suggested this place for a nice easy going evening to just relax. She is right...it was perfect. We were fortunate to find a booth. And it was enough away from the live music to be comfortable in catching up with our friend. We arrived around 5:30 on a Sunday and there were only a handful of people present. The bartender said the music starts at 8. You're able to bring your own food, as they don't serve any. There is limited seating and a small section in the back where you can't view the stage, but there's a TV back there so you can see what's happening on stage. Definitely had an old school feel. We were really looking forward to a fun night out, but this place was a big letdown. The drinks crazy expensive for what you get. It felt like they were more focused on overcharging than creating a good atmosphere. And they charge a cover of $15.00 cover to get in the door at 6:00. The vibe just wasn't there. It didn't feel fun or welcoming, and honestly, we left feeling like we wasted our time and money. We came for good familiar music and a relaxed, enjoyable night... didn't get either. My favorite Jazz bar, speakeasy vibes in Dallas! They do have a cover fee but it's so worth it. This place has some of the best live music I've seen and you get all of the front and center action. The drinks are awesome and super affordable, they offer draft beers along with specialty cocktails (amazing old fashions). This place was so chill. I've been here a few times but have yet to write a review...so here we go. It's a nice quaint atmosphere with bar and live music. A great place for live jazz and heavy pours. Check out the line up before making your way to the Balcony Club. .. some nights are a miss. Crowd is pretty diverse, but mostly 40 & up. Open mics are always entertaining for better or worse. Bartenders are great and the band occasionally takes requests if you're tipping. There's a lot of history and soul to this place. Like some of the other guests stated, this place is very cozy! I went on a Thursday night at around 8:30pm ($5 cover)! There were 2 shows, one at 6pm and one at 9:30pm, the first group was still playing when we got there. They had the crowd singing aling, even a few people were up at the front of the stage dancing, it was a great atmosphere! I would say the crowd definitely changes based on the group performing, but that's to be expected! The second group had less crowd engagement and was defintiely more of a chill vibe. Thursday was Ladies Night 15% off drinks. We were sitting right across from the bar in these cute little booths facing the band right at the entrance. My boyfriend ordered our drinks, when he got the receipt he asked why he didnt get the 15% off and the man told him because it was ladies night and I had to be the one who ordered the drink, even though I was RIGHT across from the bar. That was a bit annoying because had we known that, I would have went to the bar and ordered, but no one made that clear until AFTER the tab was already closed. read more
