I've been here twice before and had a great time, but today--on a Sunday--was a completely different experience. I brought my industry friends to what I thought would become my new favorite bar, but we were treated with disrespect, as if we didn't belong. I'm not sure why the vibe was so off today--maybe it was a particular person at the bar--but I'd strongly recommend avoiding Sundays. Unfortunately, this experience tainted my previous visits, and I'm not sure if I'll be back. I know plenty of good people who would love this place, but only if the staff and atmosphere were more welcoming. read more

I was verbally attacked by a bar customer for disagreeing w/ her opinion ...of me!!! At which time , Veronica , the karaoke host jumped in and started verbally assaulting me. She is known in the bar circuit as being inappropriate, offensive , and downright mean . It escalated , as I walked out her and security followed me outside threatening a physical altercation. Like the sound of a glass longneck bottle being dug out of ice on a hot and muggy evening? Then you are half way to loving this place! Driven by here for years, but never stopped in. There's a fondness growing in my dry parched heart for this place. It absolutely doesn't look like a dive bar as it is in an old strip mall when you pull up. Coin operated car wash across the street and you might miss it. Big parking lot with a somewhat bordered off smoker's porch out front to the right of the entry. Walking in to the left, you see the bar with 50's/60's styling and a huge mountain of alcohol bottles. As you walk up to the bar, you can see the huge troughs of ice and bottles and cans. This is a bar! There are tables, cozy booths, juke box, small dance floor, pool tables, dart boards, big screen TVs, karaoke on Saturdays, and lots of friendly East Dallas folk! I love Willie's lounge because of the atmosphere! Awesome jukebox and a great place to play a little pool. Love that they always have a little side table filled with food items to munch on! Only negative thing I have to add is that their bartender fcking SUCKS. I only get a good drink when my friends (regulars) order the drinks for me. read more

There will always be pretenders, but Willie's Lounge is a REAL dive bar. Drive through the edgy dilapidated neighborhood that refuses to gentrify, and park your car in the tiny lot out front. If you drink liquor, bring it with - they only sell beer and set-ups. But they do take CC's. Enter the darkness of your youth; this is the bar your older cool uncle went to - and it hasn't changed since he got back from 'Nam. The dive-bar where every member of the Dallas Fire Dept has had a drink at some time. The walls are filled with Rick Timmons fire posters, neon beer signs, and old Fire Dept memorabilia - the icons of DFD (note that old-time Dallas Firefighters still say DFD - not DFR) history. When I was a DFD rookie (36 yrs ago) it looked exactly the same. Old country music takes me back to my youth. For that matter; the whole bar is a time capsule. Best Dive Bar in Dallas! Amazing Bartenders who go above and beyond for their customers! They bring in home cooked food on all shifts and it's always delicious!! The bathrooms are always clean and stocked. They have the largest selection of alcohol that I have ever seen in a dive bar and the drinks are cheap! The entertainment is always wonderful! We went last night for the first time when a live band was there. The band was great and they have a small dance floor. Next time, I will wear boots instead of flip flops. Changed from 4 stars to 5. We dropped in on a whim yesterday. One of the best whims ever. It was Texas / OU weekend, and the game was already on. We could tell most of the folks were Texas fans, fine with us!! We were greeted immediately by Mandy the bartender, and several others at the bar, where already most of the spots were taken with apparent regulars. We sat at the "other bar near the bar", hubby happily ordered Lone Star (they have regular AND light...WOOHOO!!) and I asked Mandy to make me a margarita. She did, and it was a good one!! She's a top notch bartender and took really great care of us!! We enjoyed great conversations with folks there, so kind and generous. One of the regulars bought us a round, and the owners had another one for us on deck, but we had someone to meet and had go. One could really feel the love in this place. They were preparing for a baby shower, you could tell these folks were all family, and they did a nice job of making us newbies feel like we were too. It's a hangout for some Dallas Fire Department guys, one of them we met had been going there since 1964. We really, really enjoyed our visit with everyone! This is a historic Dallas Fireman's bar. Fire helmets on the walls, old fire pictures and memorabilia all around the place. Jukebox plays good music and there's occasional live music. Cheap beer great people and good conversation. Come to Willy's to get in some pool games and good stories. Especially if you are a fireman you will enjoy the atmosphere here. read more

ok, so my daytime find was fun. been back a couple of times and the place is dead and beers are $3 and it stinks in there. found out one unique offering of the bar: they only sell beer and wine, so you can bring your own bottle of hard liquor in there and buy the mixers, first is $4 something and each addl mixer is $2 something. i think you can pour yourself shots for free..... read more
