This is a membership Ranch, you buy a share and can come whenever you want. Make reservations for a cabin, or bring your RV and use a spot for a month (not for RV storage). You can stay overnight in homey red cabins, bunk beds, and double bed. Some have a separate room w toilet sink. There are also bathhouses nearby with several toilets (stalls), sinks, showers. It's not fancy but it's wonderful. My kids loved leaving the City and being in the warm outdoor environment. They played in streams, rode bikes, play mini-golf (which is home-made by owners) so it's a little wonky- my grandkids played & laughed for 3 hours., laughing and trying to keep score!. Obtaining a deed for this place was such a great decision for my family. My kids have met a lot of other kids up here and are already making memories. This place is a hidden treasure and I wish we would've known about this place when I was growing up! Great amenities for the entire family! Horseback riding, mini golf, teen/youth center, community lodge ( games almost every night ie. dice, cornhole, shuffleboard,pool) . Rc dirt track, basketball court, trails, huge pool, and many many many memories to be made! Convenient little store within the ranch, has many items that you would probably forget at home. Option for Rv/ trailer camping (if you have one ) or if you don't own one you can utilize 1 of the many cabins this place has to offer. You can leave your trailer on site for 3 months at a time then have to remove it for 5 days. The cabins are convenient as all you need are linens for the beds and the cabins come equipped with heaters for the winter time. If you've been camping before you already know how expensive it can get. For the dues you pay each year, it's super worth obtaining a deed and keeping this place alive for many more years to come. A beautiful place to spend time with your family and make new friends. At the R-Ranch you'll find horseback riding, swimming pool, dog park and a small golf course for kids. The worst part of the ranch is management, destroying the owners morale and causing a negative impact. I observed as management and employees disrespected and mistreated owners and their rights. In our experience, the management were extremely retaliatory against owners. Management go through personal documents and files and stock on social media many of the owners they are disgruntled with and use the information against the owners to cause anger. Management is quick to call the sheriffs on owners instead of resolving issues in house. Methods used to gain control and or retaliate for owners questioning rules. But through it all, sometimes owners, management and employees of the R-Ranch can put aside problematic behavior to enjoy what's left of the R Ranch this summer. My family used to own a "lifetime membership" to this property LONG ago when it was called "Napa Valley Ranch Club". We went on annual vacations to this property 1959-1964. Had a lot of fun at the pool, riding horses, playing ping-pong, etc. I remember it being HOT! HOT! HOT! The pool was packed even then. But there was an impounded stream nearby on the property and we'd swim there and NOBODY else was there...just us! It was a quiet, safe and family-friendly place back then. Nellie's store prices on "popular" items increase within a week up 200% to owners. So buy your own food and snacks if your being cost effective other than that it all goes back into RRanch in many ways with the inflation of Nellie store items and transfer fees being $900 (used to be $250). I was told the inflation is for the RRanch to pay their employee's $16 an hour, built a new modular home for the Manager and family and building a brand new cafe/restaurant on site too. I was also told the increase was to push out low socio economic, drug addicts and criminals hiding at the RRanch for our protection. Meanwhile, all of the cabins are outdated, bunkbeds are dangerous, the carpets in the cabins are filthy, dusty ceilings and under the beds, tattered curtains broken screens etc. read more

We are new 'pardners' at the Ranch and I'm reluctant to write a review because this is the best kept secret ever! After you buy your 'share' in the property ($1000+ at present) there is around $1200 in admin fees each year and you can come here as often as you like! For our family that is the price of a couple of a week's vacation without horse riding! Horse camp for my daughter was $800 a week. This is a bargain! Other reviews describe it exactly as it is, nothing fancy but well maintained. We were lucky enough to be invited by some friends to stay for a mini vacation. What a wonderful place for the entire family. My son loved it. They have stables and one of the biggest pools I have ever seen. We came during the week and it was not crowded at all. Most of the people who I met who practically live at R Ranch say even when it's crowded, it's still really fun. They have a teen center, an activities room with Foosball, pool, and ping pong. They have dances and concerts, a small grocery store and a restaurant (fast food-ish, burritos, french fries, etc.). It was $15 per person for the night and we got a cute little cabin with 4 spots to sleep. We were close to the bathrooms which were amazingly clean and a creek which the kids had a blast exploring. Deer and a bunch of other critters were all around us. We had a great time! I don't know if I would become an owner because to me you would need to come often to reap the cost of the yearly dues...and all you campers out there know, whether in a cabin or a tent, camping is hard work. =) read more

Wow, I was reminiscing about my ownership there back in 2003 when I would bring my family for little get-aways. I paid $1,500.00 from a private owner and sold it 3 years later for $750.00. I was glad to "get rid of it" because: 1. I never could find a campsite during the summer 2. Annual membership fee's kept getting higher and higher. ( over $1,00.00 per year when I sold it) 3. Restrictions on reserving cabins or bringing guests. 4. disrespectful and obnoxious guests at the pool. 5. Listening to owners bickering Considering I only used the facility maybe 3-5 times during the summer I finally decided enough and sold my membership In all honesty I don't regret selling but at least I had some good memories there with my family. I decided to check online how the facility was going only to find to my dismay that it seems to have gotten worse. The negative reviews seem to have continued to grow and I can say that any ideas I had of possibly entertaining a membership are gone. Too bad though. This is one of the places that offered free housing to the victims of the Lake/Napa County Fires. 100 cabins offered on Facebook. Room for 100 horses! Transportation for horses that were stuck and who's owner's could not transport them. They organized a huge supply center on their property. People came from many counties to this hub of goodwill to drop off desperately needed items to the many who had lost their homes or had been displaced. From here they were distributed throughout the area. Some hotels raised their rates to $300+ a night. Not this one. These devastating fires are going on as I write this, but I feel better knowing these families have somewhere to sleep. I've never stayed at the R Ranch, but I'm looking forward to it! read more

Fred's family has some property up here and he's been telling me about this place for several months now. So when the rest of our friends paid way too much to go to Toronto for a weekend, the rest of us came here for some *camping*. It's less camping and more low budget vacationing. They've got these small little wooden cabins that have electricity (for one overhead light), but no outlets - well, not the ones we stayed in. Each cabin has a bunk bed with industrial plastic covered mattresses and two other bed like structures. There's a big picnic table outside and charcoal only grills. The entire area is gated off so there are children running amok and security seems pretty tight cause it took us a long while to check in. We'd come for some horseback riding - all part of the camp, but since Fred isn't the *owner* he wasn't able to use any of the horses. Only owners can bring 1 guest. Our weekend of camping consisted mostly of drinking and eating down in Napa Valley. Of the time we did spend at the Ranch, I reminded everyone that no one puts baby in the corner and made other stupid dirty dancing jokes. read more

First, this place not open to the public, you have to be a member/owner/whatever they call it... Buyer beware, there are LOTS of hidden loop holes with "membership" The place is a bit run down, about 20 years past it's prime. The cabins and 6 feet apart from each other!?!? This is fine IF you want to be that close with family or friends... But being able to hear the people in the next cabin fart is not what I have in mind when we want to spend time "in the woods" The best way to describe this place is, it's a red-neck version of a KOA Campground, with LOTS of hidden fees. Every time you walk anywhere, there is a golf cart wizzing by you. The day we went the pool was so crowed, we couldn't find a place to set our towels down... And rap music with lots of cussing and swearing, not appropriate for kids... As we were leaving, my wife told me that she will never come here ever again, and I had to agree with her. read more

My family and I became owners at R Ranch last year. We couldn't be happier with it! Our Grandson absolutely loves it there! He loves the play grounds, horses, swimming and the activities that the wonderful staff arrange in the lodge. My husband and I also love to come for a weekend getaway by ourselves. I have been a member for a bit over six years, but I have family members that have been members for over twenty years. The R-ranch has change for the worst in the last few years, the Board of Directors are changing By-laws like changing dippers and some Board members drop out for personal reasons, but basically because of major issues that are going internally. The ranch is divided into two sections, one is the cabin area and the other the trailer or motor home area. The trailer/motor home area is like been in a trailer trash park, there are so many trailers with many personal items that it actually looks worse than a trailer park. Many of this people park their trailers there for about three months but they only show up maybe once or twice for the weekend during the three month parked. The trailer area in my opinion is a complete waste of use for other owners who cannot come and park their trailers for a week or weekend because of the just noted. The cabin section in my opinion is the best area to visit, but it is getting bad. During the hot summer weekends this area gets packed with the majority of decent people and lots of children. However; you will have issues with people bringing their dogs to areas that they are not supposed to bring them, but the By-laws are not enforced. Some people can be extremely rude and they think that they are the only ones at the ranch and their music is so loud that you can hear it from far away. I have asked several ranch employees to please ask those types of people to lower their music, but their typical response is "there is nothing they can do". Lately there has been people who are bringing their trailers to the cabin area and starting to set up camp like the other section. This was never allowed, but it is happening because the trailer area is over packed and disgusting, it is only a matter of time that the cabin section which is very pleasant so far, it gets as bad as the trailer section. The Board members have their own agenda which the employees don't follow. Many of the workers at the ranch are frustrated because they are seen changes for the worst, there is no one person who knows what the other person is doing. The best ranch manager and his wife are leaving and no one blames them because who knows how bad it's going to get. Please don't get me wrong, the ranch is still a place to relax and have a good time if you go there during the week or during fall and spring when it's not too hot. If you are willing to become an owner, due your homework and talk to a lot of people before you buy. The monthly fees do not reflect the maintenance to the ranch. Someone donated a miniature golf a few years ago, the set was in pretty good condition but because no one at ranch has taken the initiative to protect it and keeping kids from jumping on it. It is broken, dangerous sharp edges of plywood is expose and it should be address. I could go on and on and on with things that could be improve very easily and with no money involved, but it is what it is. Happy hunting and make sure that if you do buy, that you get a very good deal as once you buy it's very hard to sell. Food for thought read more

I've been coming here ever since I was 3 years old! You can only come to this place if you are one of the owners or if you come with someone that is an owner. They have horseback riding, a nice outdoor pool and the scenery is beautiful. You get a cabin to stay in! This place is great when you just want to get out of the city! Cooking outdoors and just hanging out with the family is the best because there is no TV.. so there is more conversing with each other. What can be better than connecting more with your family or friends? BUT if you are too high maintenance you will hate this place! I can't wait to come here next month! We joined R Ranch 4 years ago when it was going through some political turmoil on its Board of Directors (BOD). This kind of sucked but then a good BOD was voted in and an excellent Ranch Manager was hired (Yay, Paul Q!!!!). It is well run and a fun place to go. First and foremost you got to love horses. If you love horses, this is THE place for getting your kids on a horse. The stable manager is AMAZING (Yay, Misty!!!!!!). Once you establish your dedication and commitment to helping out at the stables, you can do cool stuff like groom and bathe horses, take ponies to the round pen to run them, help saddle up for rides. Once you have your trail card.... well, it is horse heaven for those who don't want the expense of a privately owned horse. Added bonus: remember when you were young and there was that magical place where you could go every summer where it was warm and you could swim in a great pool, play tennis, hang out with horses, fish in a pond, make new friends, explore a creek, watch a movie outside under the stars, go to a rollicking dance party at the lodge, play bingo, ride through oaks on a friendly horse, wake up in a woodsy cabin with a creek burbling nearby, play horse shoes or ping pong or boccie ball, ride a buckboard wagon pulled by two huge Percherons, play pick-up pool games in the lodge, get a root beer float at the snack bar, pick up a soda at the country store, or just sit with your feet in the creek reading a book? No? I didn't have it either BUT MY KIDS SURE DO TODAY!!! That's R Ranch. You can't buy this kind of childhood experience today for as cheap as it is going now. I bought into this Ranch, site unseen based on the raving reviews from a girlfriend who has been going since she was 5 - shes 40 now. We have not been disappointed. We have been owners for about 6 years, and can not get up there enough. As a family who loves horses, this is the place to be. You can board a horse of your own, or utilize the ranch horses for free. Its the perfect family fun zone, and your kids are safe and secure playing in the outdoors while us adults get to relax in beautiful Napa, only a short car ride to the lake. I have to laugh because even being owners for 6 years, we have only gone over to the Lake once. Why go (unless you have a boat) when you have all the fun you need right on the property. My parents joined the former Napa Valley Ranch in i958 which was located on the present site of R Ranch at the Lake. I spent many wonderful summers at the ranch for the many years my parents were members.I have many great memories during my teenage years! Now my grown children and grandchildren have the opportunity to experience this great hidden GEM. I visited R ranch in 2013 and became an owner in October 2013. In 2014, I stayed three times for a total of 30 days in the A cabins .These cabins have electricity and your own bathroom.We met many wonderful people. Owners and staff are all Great. This is a safe place to bring your family. The location is so close to the Bay Area. I live less than one hour away so even day trips are great year round. The Super large pool,lodge, horses, seeing the deer and other wildlife,allow your family have plenty to enjoy! In 1967 my mom took my brother and myself camping every weekend in the summer at napa valley ranch glub. I have so many great memories of riding the horses, swimming. My brother was in the creek for hours trying to catch a turtle. i kept my family tent for 30 years and used it also. I would like to know if my moms lifetime membership is still valid. The Ranch has been a favorite spot for my family for many years. This year some changes at the stable are keeping riders away. I have never heard this many complaints before. Several long time owners are thinking about leaving the Ranch. I hope these problems will get worked out. Perhaps it's time for a change of board members.
