Giving 2 stars considering I became sick after eating here. I came here to celebrate a birthday party. It does not seem this place gets lots of traction since we came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was empty. The table ordered chips & queso and a taco sampler. Both were good, no complaints. I ordered the arroz con pollo with the rice on the side. When the plate was placed in front of me, I could smell a stench. The color of my food was brown. I started to compare this plate to El Tapatio as this is the same thing I order from them except theirs is red. I stopped myself because everyone cooks differently. The party started at 12:30pm and so I came with an empty stomach. By the time I got home at 2pm, I began feeling ill. I became very sick with nausea, etc. I was sick the remaining weekend and into Monday. The location is in a pretty nice area. Inside is really clean and pretty. The wait staff were really attentive and friendly. Helpful with suggesting drinks. Overall, with my experience, I wouldn't chance coming back here again to try their food. read more

Didn't know this place existed until a friend brought us in to celebrate her birthday. But to be fair, I don't go out to Citrus Heights all that much. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted kindly and sat right away. The service was kind, friendly and knowledgeable and everyone had such a wonderful smile. You can tell they enjoy working there/together. We came during happy hour on Sunday which I believe is 11-4. The house margaritas for $7.50 were delicious! We even had a few of their shooters called boomshackalacka - and again, delicious. I ordered the Mexican pizza from the happy house menu and added asada to it and it was absolutely yum! We stayed for about 4 hours enjoying each others company and having a good time. I hear they do karaoke and trivia nights during the week too and its very popular. We tried this place today for the 1st time. The fact that it was essentially empty at lunch time should of been a warning. There was 1 older lady sitting at the bar and 2 older ladies sitting on the patio. The salsa was lacking in some flavor. Could of used some salt and lime/lemon maybe. The chips seemed generic. The lady at the bar was loud and talking to the wait stuff non-stop. At one point she asked the waitress to take her bandaid off. The waitress was singing along with the music very loudly, almost like she was mocking the music. It was super weird. The food came in a decent amount of time. It was super hot. I ordered a chicken taco and cheese enchilada. My husband got the chili Colorado macho burrito. The portions were massive. The flavor was lacking. The cheese kind of tasted old. The chicken had a weird cinnamon or nutmeg flavor. The enchilada sauce didn't taste like anything. My husband said the most flavorful thing about his burrito was the sour cream. I mean, truthfully........I am leaving a four star review, primarily treating this as an entire "experience" review. We sat in the bar area, as my wife and I were invited for a night of dinner and karaoke. It was loud and raucous, but I believe it was the intent. There were a lot of regulars, and the actual karaoke was fun to watch. Our friends participated, it was fairly organized, and maybe next time I will muster some liquid courage and sing myself. Save for one overly drunk woman, it was a pretty fun experience. My wife ordered the taco salad. She said it was definitely a salad (but not the most positive way). She said there was an abundance of lettuce as filler, but the actual other taco parts were limited, so possibly a little skimpy on the yummy bits. I ordered the birria quesadilla, as I know birria is trending across the United States right now, so why not ("Birria" in the United States = Mexican version of a French Dip sandwich, i.e. beef with a thin dipping sauce). I mean, it was good enough, as I wish the cheese were melted a little more. The beans and rice, surprisingly, was quite good. My wife enjoyed her blended margarita, and they do have a fully stocked bar. The food, then....a 3 to a 3 minus We are for sure coming back for a good time, with singing, some drinks, but maybe eat dinner before and just share an appetizer for next time. read more

Where to start, when we arrived it was pleasant, our waiter was kind and all but once the chips arrived at our table we should have known better, stale chips, salsa was not the greatest and the bean dip, I have no idea how it could have no salt or flavor. We ordered our food and hoped it was just a fluke, nope my salad, the meat and veggies were ok, but the tortilla on the it was placed in, it tasted like soap, i could not finish eating it i maybe had a quarter of it, surprisingly when I told another waiter, she tated it and had the same conclusion,when my spouse tasted it same thing, but when our waiter came along she did not how 3 people did and one didn't I have no idea, we let them know with respect what was going on, my husband's salad was sour randomly and had mostly the butt ends of the lettuce and the white parts of the lettuce let's just say he just ate the toppings, my child's meal was fine a bit dry on the meat but fine, would I ever go back, most likely not, in the end we were not comped for all our issues which we did not expect but it would have been nice given that we didn't really eat any of our food, the bar side seemed to be having a good time with trivia but other then that I would not recommend this place I would rather stick to what mexican places I love, not quite worth my money. read more

The margarita was big, but huge. The staff was friendly the food was decent. The prices were reasonable. I doubt we will go back however because while we were there, there was a dog in the bar. Worse, there was a dog in the dining room. Neither had vests or jackets identifying them as service or emotional support animals. The one very close to us was very cute. He was begging from it's owner. For the owner's sake, I'm very glad that the health department didn't drop that night. read more

Yesterday evening my boyfriend and I decided to stop in for date night. I ordered the Carne Asada Fries (off menu) First can we talk about the fries!? They are my absolute favorite, seasoned fries and man are they tasty! And the carne asada is very flavorful, juicy and cooked to perfection! Not to mention it's topped with lots of melty cheese, fresh guacamole, pico de gallo to add some heat and beans! Seriously order these nacho fries and thank me later! Chips & Salsa~ The tortilla chips were crisped up to perfection and very flavorful as well and the salsa paired perfectly! Not to mention they are complimentary for your table! Support this small local business, especially now when they need our business the most! They have gorgeous day of the dead murals by ADR Creates Solutions we admired! I was in there last night and I have to say this is the most disgusting Mexican food I've ever had in my life. The tostada was soaked in water. Couldn't even eat it so much lettuce not enough meat the meat that was on there had no flavor and tasted boiled. I had the chili Colorado plate. The meat tasted like it was out of the microwave. The rice had no flavor. Beans had no flavor. This place is just gross. I woke up this morning with a stomach ache and I've been going to the bathroom nonstop so I feel I have a touch of food poisoning. Be careful eating here. The indoor decor and bar offerings are the star of R Vida Cantina. However, I found the food to be on the bland side. They do not serve the obligatory chips and salsa appetizer which is a huge factor in my rating of any sit down Mexican restaurant. But because my food was so bland I asked if they had salsa hoping to level up my meal. The salsa was horribly bland too. I'm not exaggerating when I say their salsa tasted like lightly seasoned canned tomatoes. The service at R Vida Cantina was exceptional but unfortunately it can't make up for the extremely bland food. We made another visit on a Thursday around 5pm and brought four more of our friends!!! Rodrigo was working but in the bar today. Our server (woman) was so friendly and accommodating as our group came in stages. We loved having her as our server!!We ordered the house margaritas (delicious). Also the mini taco sampler (all meats great!) pozole (small-big chunks of meat, lots of hominy and great flavor-definitely homemade and not from a can) tres amigos (chili verde-delicious, chili Colorado-fabulous) chili relleno, Ramos nachos and chicken in a cream like sauce. Everything was great. Each meal was definitely enough for two people!! All were happy and satisfied. Definitely worth coming here and the food and service will not disappoint. Restaurant was busy in the bar and the dining room had a steady amount of customers. They have happy hour from 3 to 6 and the prices are definitely worth it. :) read more

When it comes to a new, unique, family-owned Mexican restaurant, count me in! I was excited about "R Vida Cantina" opening up as it gave the local residents of Citrus Heights even more options to an already saturated Mexican restaurant market. There is already El Tapatio, Tres Hermanos, and La Fiesta so does this area need another place? Well I had to be the judge and see how this place matched up to its competition. Conveniently located on busy Sunrise Blvd. and in between Oak Ave. and Woodmore Oaks Dr., "R Vida Cantina" has been serving up its authentic family-style Mexican food since late-2019. I do feel bad because as soon as their business was thriving with customers, they had to shut down their indoor dining due to the Coronavirus pandemic. When I came here with my lady and our two friends, we dined outside on the evening of Friday 7/24/2020. I will have to say that the service here is top notch. Our waiter (whose name I didn't get) was extremely helpful and had a great personality. He brought us out 4 iced waters complete with their homemade chips & salsa. Since we were all hungry, we immediately placed our orders. I went with their "Molcajete" which offers sautéed chicken/beef strips, mildly spiced sauce, mushrooms, onions, tomato, Jack cheese, green onions, jalapeño peppers, avocado, and a side of flour tortillas. I washed this down with an iced cold 24 oz. Modelo Espacial. My lady ordered 3 Carne Asada tacos w/rice and beans while our friends tried other various meals including enchiladas and fish tacos. Even though this place was busy, all four us received our dinner entrees in roughly 10 minutes. The entire presentation of my Molcajete was very well executed in the traditional stone mortar. The food itself was absolutely delicious while the meat, sauces, and ingredients all pulled together in every savory bite. As I mentioned, this place has some very stiff competition in the area. I wish them the very best as these small businesses rely on us by keeping them stay afloat. With that said and done, I will say that "R Vida Cantina" is an excellent dining option if you are truly looking for that full Mexican experience. My rating, a perfect five-stars. read more
