If it's all you've got it's all you'll get. Very used bikes at a "we got you" rate. If they are the only place available, that was our situation, then do it but keep your expectations low. Our bike had no spare tubes. All worked out but if we flatted we would have been stuck. Staff was trying to be helpful but simply both over worked and under supplied with bikes and parts. We planned to ride the Mickelson Trail on our visit to South Dakota. We were going to ride from Deadwood to Hill City and enlisted the aid - so we thought - of Rabbit Bikes. I talked to Stacey a few times to ensure that all was set. We had a 12:00 pm shuttle time from Hill City to Deadwood. We arrived at the shop at about 11:30 and tried the door but they did not appear to be open. This was on a Tuesday! I called Stacey who assured me that the driver was on the way and would be there no later than 12:15 pm. I gave her a call at 12:21 pm and did not reach her. I asked her to call me back. Never did get a call back. We waited till 12:30 pm and decided to create our own ride. The ride was GREAT! We rode from Hill City to a couple of miles past the Rochford Trailhead and then back. We would've liked to have done the Deadwood section. Maybe next time. I just know that we won't be using Rabbit Bike for our shuttle. Poor service and no follow up. read more

Don't count on these people to know what they're talking about or to be there for you. I contacted them on Friday to ask about renting a bicycle and taking their shuttle on Sunday or Monday. No problem, I was told. I showed up Sunday as soon as they opened and the person behind the counter said she had no idea about the shuttle service. I was given the owner's number to call. No answer. Then I got kicked out of the shop because they were closing -- not 15 minutes after they opened at 9 AM. I went with another company. Beware as bikes are not as advertised on website. I was able to pre-book a Cannondale Fat bike with suspension online. When I showed up it was a junky garage with broken down old bikes. The bike I booked nowhere to be seen. I was given a no suspension fat bike with balled tires, worn out brakes, broken right brake pull and a loose front tire. As a local of the Black Hills I will never recommend. read more

Worst experience ever. We were in South Dakota July 2021. We tried to rent from another business in town; they were not able to accommodate us and recommended Rabbit bike rentals. We attempted to call Rabbit bike rental several times with no answer. Messages left and eventually able to reach someone, Went to the shop at the agreed upon time and no one around. Waited for someone to show up. Spent 30+ mins getting fitted for the bicycles. Morgan would pull out bikes and then leave to go into the shop. Very unorganized. Finally started biking the Mickelson Trail. We were 5 mins in and we all felt like we were biking in quick sand. Rabbit Bike had stated that they had the tires properly inflated for the trail. All of our tires were very low, when we sat on the bikes the tires compressed to half of the volume of the tire and we are not heavy people. When my son attempted to shift gears the bicycle chain fell off after replacing the chain he was stuck in one gear or the chain would come off. We finally got fed up as we were miserable biking with such low tire pressure and not going anywhere. We eventually turned around and did not see what we had planned to see. We returned to the shop and updated Morgan regarding the tire pressure and chain coming off and she stated she would contact her manager to see about a refund. We have not seen the refund. We paid for 4 hours and spent 2 miserable hours. We saw others on the trail and were envious of their inflated tires and ease of moving! Please rent from someone else. The Mickelson trail is very nice unfortunately, the experience with the bikes ruined our experience. We have rented bikes in California, New York, Whistler and other locations and have never had a bad experience until Rabbit Bicycle. read more

I love Joey can I take her home with me? She is über nice and got me hooked up with a cool ride on the Michelson trail. Pretty sure she gave me Ed's ride. Not sure I was supposed to tell. The variety bikes is very good and Joey knows exactly how to size beginner to advanced. I'm sure Ed is awesome too, but he was off fishing. I got in 50 miles of awesome trail. She prepped me for the long ascent back to mile marker 68. This was the best unguided Bike trip I've ever done. I try to do this at least once a year, so it is a fair sample. The only thing I will do different next time, is bring my own cleats, gloves and more food. There were ten great places to picnic. read more

Horrible experience attempting to rent a bike at this shop. I was traveling from the East Coast to visit relatives in the Black Hills Area and wanted to rent a bike so my relatives and I could ride together on the Mickelson trail. Since this was the same weekend as the annual Mickelson Trail ride I was concerned about the availability of rental bikes in the area. So I emailed an inquiry to Rabbit bike which I never received an response on. Figuring it might have got lost in their spam mail, I called them ahead of my trip and was told that I wouldn't have any problem renting a bike from them that weekend. Good to go I thought. Arriving on a Thursday, my cousin and I stopped by Rabbit to see about renting a bike. We were told, in a very condescending way, we couldn't take one on the hanging rack. OK then, we would just come back on the day we wanted to ride over the weekend and ride from the store. They said fine. So we show back up on the following Saturday and are told "we don't rent bikes when the Mickelson Trail days are going on...we are too busy". Are you kidding me? A retailer that advertises that they rent bikes, has bikes available, has at most two other customers in the store and three people working, can't rent a bike? It's their advertised business. How about letting potential clients know up front on your website that you don't rent bikes on these days, or letting people know when they call and inquiring about renting bikes during these days, or when they show up in your shop ahead of time and ask about it. What a waste of time this business was. We went down the road and rented a bike from Mickelson Trail Adventures. Got a perfectly good bike for the trail with no hassles. read more

Five. Of us stopped to rent bikes. The guy that helped us, and I use the word helped loosely, was short with us and unaccommodating. We left and went to Michelson Trail Adventures where they couldn't have been better to us and it was less than half the price. read more

The bicycles we rented were mediocre. We have rented better bicycles in Paris, France, and in Spain for less. The shifting on my wife's bicycle was difficult. She also had an issue with the chain slipping in certain gears, a dead giveaway that the teeth on either the chain ring or cluster, and/or the chain are worn too far. They had a hard time fitting a bicycle to my wife. Although we scheduled the rental a month and half in advance, bicycles were not ready for us when we arrived. We stayed in the loft above the shop for five nights. The "kitchen" is small, and could use a fry pan. I felt like I was on an episode of "Cutthroat Kitchen" while cooking, but I made do. There were not adequate toiletries in the bathroom. Fortunately, we had our own. The owner and managers did not make themselves available to us; our contact was with the bike mechanic, who professed to be somewhat separate and not knowledgeable about other matters. At least he did call the owner for us since I had only AT&T and not Verizon for my mobile and did not get much reception anywhere in SD. The mechanic seemed to know his business. Nevertheless, I doubt I would use Rabbit in the future. read more

We rented 4 bikes plus a tagalong for my 7-year-old from Rabbit Bikes to ride the Mickelson trail in July. The bikes for the three adults and my 11-year-old son were fine, but the tagalong was not installed properly and it was impossible for my daughter to ride it without tilting to the right. She is a good pedlaler and was doing her best, but the tagalong would not stay upright. She was a trooper and rode the 10 miles tilted to the right about 30 degrees. Other riders on the trail would stop to look at us because it was so odd and obviously not right. If we had been wise, we would have tried the tagalong in the parking lot which is what we did with the rest of the bikes and had we known of the issue in time, we would have gotten my daughter her own bike. When we mentioned the issue to the shop when we returned, they said that it is supposed to be like that (it's most certainly not supposed to be like that, we have used properly installed tagalongs in the past with no issues...the tagalong should be tightened securely to the adult bike and in this case, the adult bike needed a sleeve or some other piece of equipment in order for the tagalong to be tight enough) and apologized for not warning us. I am warning anyone who wants to rent a bike with a tagalong from this shop...check the fit before they leave you with no cell service at the trail head! read more

Traveling and touring several rails to trails bike paths over a weeks vacation. I damaged my bike on a trail in Montana, and needed fixed before I could ride the Mikelson trail. The owner of Rabbit Bicycle was able to diagnose and repair/replace with parts on hand. Very knowledgeable of the area and extremely customer service oriented. A great experience. read more

Had a flat. Walked into this shop and they took care of us with minimal wait and at a fair price. Their shop had a variety of items for the bike enthusiast. Some items were pricey but others were fair. They helped us in a pinch and we can't complain about that. read more

Had an excellent experience with Rabbit Bicycles. We were vacationing in Custer and riding the Mickelson Trail. One of our bikes got a flat and also encountered shifting problems. They were able to get the bike fixed and back to us the next day in perfect working order. Also the shop is well stocked with accessories from tubes to clothing. I'd highly recommend them. read more

I've been to this shop in prior years just for passes and friendly conversation with the prior owners. This time I stopped in to grab some gear and spoke with a young lady named Brook(sp?). She was quite rude and claimed the annual passes were $18 instead of $15 which I refused to pay. When I asked if that was a company policy or an overall price increase she said that's just what she was told to charge. I then asked about some of the trailheads on the Centennial trail or single track and she didn't have a clue so she asked a large bearded gentleman about it and he hands me a booklet/pamphlet with no real working knowledge of the trail. I asked of he'd ever even ridden the Mickelson and he said that he's driven it many times. I see good reviews on here, most of which are from tourists not familiar with biking in general, one of which is from the same girl who works here whom I assume is the owners daughter. I also see another poor review where there is no apology or offer to rectify. That is bad business. I believe this to occur when the owners/managers aren't completely invested in their product. Do any of these people even bicycle? Completely unsatisfactory. You can fool the tourists not the cycling community. If I could give 0 stars, I surely would!! read more
