Race Point Beach is at the tip of Cape Cod, surrounded by grassy rolling sand dunes and grasslands. Since I visited in mid October, I didn't have to pay $25 to park and the place was pretty deserted. I walked down to the beach over a blue mat laid down on the sand which made for easy walking. I little shocked to see warnings posted about sharks! As I neared the beach and the waves rolling in, I could see some people watching something out in the surf and was excited to see a seal swimming along in the waves, its head popping up occasionally. I have many fond memories at Race Point, from fishing, to swimming, to driving on the sand. It's an incredible, large ocean beach. Beautiful sand, waves, tidal pools and sand bars that are constantly changing. You can ride to the race point parking lot on bikes from the Provincelands bike trail and relax at the beach to enjoy the views. It's part of the national park system so there is a fee in season. You can use this pass to enter other national seashore beaches as well. There are a number of paths to the beach from the parking lot. One path has a mobimat available, in season at least. It is a pretty long walk down this path, and it is fairly steep, so if you struggle with that, you might prefer Herring Cove which is just on the bay side nearby. It's a bit more gradual of a hill. read more

The only thing to know about this beach is that it is absolutely magnificent. It is a national treasure and you must visit it one day. This is a beautiful beach that feels like you are at the end of the world...which in some sense you are because to get there it means you have traveled to the far tip of Cape Cod...there is no where else to go once you get to that tip except into the sea. Race Point is one of the beaches comprising the Cape Cod National Seashore and is part of the National Parks System. As it was off season we did not have to pay for parking or pay to access the beach. Having a National Parks pass though is a good idea especially for anyone who travels around the USA as that pass will get you into any of the National Parks including Race Point. The water is clear and clean. The shore line is vast and spectacular. I cannot emphasize how clean and clear the water is and how pristine the beach is. This is a well-tended and beloved beach. I have been coming here since I was in high school and the beach and the surrounding dunes are unchanged and seem eternally beautiful. Coming as we usually do, pre or post summer season, means we find the beach uncrowded. Regardless of time of year, the water is cold...this is New England after all and even during a hot summer (such as the one we just had!) there is rarely time for the water to warm up sufficiently so that going into the water is initially bracing. But I like that feeling and once submerged you are fine. Each year during the fall, we find there are still plenty of warm days...we call them Indian Summers...and this year has been no exception as we have had several days of bright sun and temperatures in the high 60s and 70s. Autumn swimming and paddle-boarding are still terrific activities here but I would recommend a partial or full wetsuit. The dunes are absolutely spectacular and worth seeing. They are home to the nationally protected Piping Plovers which are a delight to watch as these tiny birds scamper about. When necessary, the beach poses shark warnings but despite all the media hoopla they are not usually a problem. The current can be strong here so swimmers beware. read more

This is a lovely and large beach. It's dog friendly and especially during this time of the year in the fall as there are hardly any people around. My pup loved running in the sand. I was lucky enough to see some seals bobbing and swimming around close to the shore which was a cool experience. Great beach to enjoy a morning stroll. read more

This is my favorite beach down the cape. As a continuation of the vibe of the lower cape and especially Provincetown, Race Point has the sense of being untouched by the crowds and heavy foot traffic of the upper and mid cape region. This far east, you are surrounded by dunes and everything is built on the sand. The bike trail is a must for running or biking, just get ready for some hills. read more

We went to the Old Harbor Life Saving reenactment on Thursday afternoon. This was very informative and a fun experience. Kids could help with the clean up and they all enjoyed the activities. The volunteers were knowledgeable and lent a great story to what happened when a ship wrecked. Great addition to our visit to the cape. read more

Such a beautiful beach on the end of Cape Cod. We love going here as there's a nice size parking lot, and restrooms. There's an admission to enter, but it's worth it. Plus let's help our US Park Service preserve our beautiful lands and beaches. The beaches here are clean and the dunes are amazing. But it's cold water, be prepared. It does get pretty busy in the summer too, so expect a crowd. We always spot sea lions in the water right off the beach. Then in the far distance you can usually see a whale or 2 come to the surface. This beach is beautiful. Pristine miles of sand, dunes, and water. Lots of wonderful rocks to admire, toss, or stack. The water is cold, but that's no surprise. The beach is clean, parking is ample, and a blue mat is available for making your walk through the sand so much easier. This is a must see beach. Enjoy it and take in all the beauty that surrounds you. Parking is 20.00 for the day, but gets you into other beaches as well for the day. This is another great beach on the tip of Cape Cod. It's a little more remote than Herring Cove, so you'd definitely need to drive or bike here. The dunes are amazing and when you're walking down toward the beach, the views are breathtaking. It does feel a little more open and exposed than Herring Cove and I've never seen it get as crowded as HC does. I believe there is a fee for parking a car because there's a little booth in the road you have to stop at, but I've always biked there and that's free, baby! read more

Yet another gorgeous Cape Cod beach, this is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a summer day. Be careful in the water as once again, lots of sharks can be found here. The beach is well kept and clean but not too huge. The dunes here and natural life are so wonderful and I enjoyed watching the sand plovers running around. Great beach, as other reviewers mentioned. Water doesn't get as warm on this side of the cape, not great for swimming (at least not for long). Sand dunes here are really nice and peaceful. Last time we were out here we had a sea lion playing peek-a-boo in and out of the waves with the kids for over an hour. Nice paved (although sandy) bike trail, big parking area. Access to drive onto the sand if you want (don't sink). Very close to Provincetown, another interesting place to visit. Perhaps I'll review P-town another time. read more

Beautiful beach on the tip of the cape! Parking lot is close and there is one walkway with matting. Very picturesque with the white sand (big grain), green beach sand, and blue skies. We saw whales spouting in the distance and a seal made a brief appearance In a wave! It reminded me of my favorite beach, (Crane beach) but a little more wild with ferries in the distance, RVs parked on both sides of the beach and stronger waves. Even though the parking lot was pretty full the beach wasn't packed with people. Changing area and bathroom available but they need some work and a good cleaning. $20 the day, no discount for late arrival. Can be used at the other beaches same day. read more

This beach is a different kind of beach loke I have never seen before. The currents there are strong consequently not many people were swimming. They have shark signs all over so I didn't feel comfortable about that. This beach is not to long. This beach has sand bars and takes all the space. Its nice to look at but not my favorite read more

We absolutely loved this spot- beach was clean, people are polite, no ones sitting on top of you- really felt like a dream on true. We also saw some birds in the water and seals swimming along the water. It was 20$ to park for the day and the great thing is with a receipt you can access all 6 beaches. There's bathrooms and a changing area which I thought was nice. There is a huge parking lot but try to get there on the early side (10-11am) to grab your spot. And then you pass the artists' cottages, which are not open to the public and yet tantalizingly close, visible in the desirable Outer Cape golden sunlight. This seems to be everyone's favorite beach in Ptown but for me it was just ok. It is definitely scenic and a great beach but most of the sandy area is closed off for birds nesting. I guess that's a good thing but I think it would be more enjoyable if the area was more open. One of the best beaches on the east coast. Race point has a wild feel to it as it is not part of a protected cove. Big dunes, big surf and cold water. I love the bike trails that lead out to the beach. The only place on the east coast to watch the sun set over the ocean towards the West. Amazingly breath taking. read more

We went to Race Point Beach on Sunday and it was a WONDERFUL experience! We were looking for a dog-friendly beach, and found out about Race Point Beach through www.bringfido.com. We had never been to the beach with our dog before, and it was better than we could have hoped for. We were allowed on the beach that was to the right of the life-guarded beach. Dogs are to be leashed during the hours when the beach is being lifguarded, but before and after those hours it seems as though dogs could be off-leash if well behaved. The leash rule wasn't a problem with us, though! We brought a long rope so that we could go in the water and have our dog out on the beach just beyond the water (she was not sold on the idea of going swimming!). The water was cold, but free of seaweed...and the beach was clean (free of debris/trash). People were friendly. There were many seal sightings which was pretty cool. They're much bigger creatures than we ever expected! We're definitely going back! read more

This has to be the best beach in Provincetown. The views are gorgeous, the public restrooms are clean and they have a large changing area, so you can change from street or bike clothes to beach wear. Wide open beaches, sand that doesn't burn your feet, not many people and whales surfacing off in the distance. A really picturesque place. The only drawbacks are that there aren't any public concessions, so bring your own food and drinks, and the water is COLD, I mean almost ice cold. Not as cold as Maine beaches, which are ice cold, but it makes the Hamptons, Jersey Shore, CT and Block Island feel like the Caribbean. And we were there when the water is the warmest - early September. But if you can brave it, it's definitely worth. And even if you don't get in the water, the views are worth the trip here. Especially if your trip here involved biking here because the bike trails are spectacular. Another top thing to do in Provincetown! Don't miss it. read more

It's way out there. It was a pretty far drive from the center of Provincetown. It's really remote and if you come off season, we got there right before beach season hits, the parking is PLENTY because no one is there and free parking during off season only...otherwise it's $15. I never spend a lot of time at a beach. I just walk up to it take a look around and leave. I was walking along the "broadwalk" to the lifesaving station building when a wild fox and I had a face off. Man I totally froze in my tracks. It sniffed at me. Had a bit of a face off....I slowly regained my mobility and walked backwards away...man that was scary. This beach is certainly wild looking with the huge dunes...and fox. What does the fox say? Loved this place to the core The water was cleaner than any beach I've seen in Northern California. The water temp was warm from it being heated all day. We got here around 5 after it's free to park other wise I think it's like $20 during the day. Oh they stick it to your a$$ on cape cod with the beach tabs but I mean they're some of the cleanest beaches I've ever seen with my own two eyes. The water is clear and not polluted like the shores of the Bay Area where I reside. There wasn't tons of boat traffic in and around the cape. The people here seem to have respect for nature I don't see trash bags that have been rummaged through by Birds due to people's carelessness. I don't see cigarette butts, or a bunch of lost kids toys. This place is pristine and I hope it stays that way, forever. It was nice to come sit here because I didn't get the sand fly bites like I got at some other beaches. Wow!! they hurt and OFF does a great job of repelling them but I didn't have to encounter that this time around. read more

A lot of grassy dunes that corrosion is obvious where visible. Fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as Cape Cod itself due to its location. Personally, Provincetown is where one can easily find same-sex couples which this beach invites all. Provincetown Theatre Company is nearby this beach. read more

I visited Race Point Beach over the 4th of July. I bought a one-week off-road permit ($50) for the beach since Nauset Beach was closed for the piping plovers to fledge. The off road driving area is so big that there is usually areas that are open if they have to close part of it. It extends from Race point beach all the way to Long Nook Beach in Truro. My review is for Race Point Beach, the area and trail adjacent to the light house. The trails we really fun to drive out to the beach and past the light house; there are some great photo ops along the way. The key to driving through that soft sand is low tire pressure, I recommend 10 PSI. The beach wasn't crowded, we had no problem getting a good spot each day. We were able to spread out and throw bags, football, and Frisbee. The water was cold, but we still went in it, it felt nice on a hot day. The bathrooms and dressing rooms are not too far away; they didn't charge us extra to get into this area of the park since we had the beach permit. One more tip: bring a rake, there can be a lot of sticks, seaweed, rocks on the beach that you probably don't want under your towel! read more

Incredible spot for wildlife sightings! I saw a cheeky fox running about a funeral party here a few weeks back. The party had just sent their mate out to sea shrouded in flowers, catching the eye of the fox. The fox was running between beach umbrellas posing for photos and catching a snack. Then, we saw him again in the parking lot before leaving. He lunged at my friend but thankfully she escaped in the knick of time. Herring cove, we will be back for more! read more

4 and a half stars for east coast beaches this far north. We drove to every beach on the Cape last uear before finding this beach the very last stop and we are glad we did. It is extremely clean with good sand and very minimal rocks or junk. The water is chilly but this beach is super to walk if you like uncrowded beautiful beaches. There are seals that pop up near the shore quite often and usually a whale or two within sight. The parking was free every time we visited and no shortage of parking spots. They also added a mobi-mat from the parking lot to the beach to make it more accessible for those who cannot walk the short distance to the water. We will keep returning here every year. All the information online says DOGS ARE ALLOWED beyond the lifeguard protected sections of the beach. When we got the the beach we were KICKED OUT by the lifeguards that made us go through a really embarrassing situation. There are NO SIGNS saying dogs are not allowed but the lifeguards walked us out of the beach anyway. read more

Absolutely out of this world stunning. This is one of the most beautiful, unspoiled places I've ever been in my entire life, and far and away my best beach experience. Race Point is easily in my top 5 all time most impactful landscapes, right up there with the Scottish Highlands, The Côte d'Azur in the South of France, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Yosemite. Just very, very special. This is Cape Cod and goddamned America at its most sublime. We spent the late afternoon and evening here, catching a sunset that is unique because this is the only place on the entire east coast to watch the sun fully set into the ocean. Once you come over the brow from the conveniently nearby and large parking lot, you know you're in for a singular experience. Race Point feels like the end of the earth. The sky, the sun, and the moon are never more accentuated in glorious harmony than at this spot on the bleeding edge of the continent. There are no frills whatsoever. No restaurants, no development, no trash, no light pollution--just pure panoramic coastline. We also saw a large amount of seal activity, and actually swam within 20 feet of an entire school of baby seals for over an hour. It was like a fucking beautiful dream this place. Get on the right wavelength, relax your mind, and Race Point will put your life into grand perspective. read more

I like this beach a lot. It's big, clean and has good water. not much in big waves, but you can swim your ass off! Life guard, clean bathroom and lots of parking! You can also bike here from downtown, there are bike paths through the dunes and you feel like you are on the moon! it's cool. read more
