I am "post menopausal" and just met with Dr. Lopez for the first time. I had a wonderful experience with her. She really listened to me and is helping determine which hormone treatment is best for me. She is very responsive to messaging through the patient portal, and that is so important when you have concerns or follow up questions. I am really grateful that I found Dr Lopez. I have been dealing with horrific abdominal pain on and off since I was a teenager. I have had countless ultrasounds with them concluding nothing is wrong with me. It's been crazy. For the last 30 plus years I've been trying to figure out what the cause is and going to doctor after doctor after doctor begging someone to please just do something different to figure it out. I have also dealt with major issues related to my "monthly bill" us females are blessed with. Dr Lopez is the first doctor to actually do something different. She did a cath/inject hysterosalpingogram. Guessing that's the technical term as that's what's in my chart for what I had. It was very painful for me from the start and she was very nice and patient with me and talked me through everything. She showed me what she found on the screen and was patient while I was able to calm down, breathe through the pain, and look at the screen. I cried. I yelled. I cussed. She was very understanding and when I asked if I was the worst patient she's ever had for that procedure she was very nice and said everyone handles everything in their own way and that's all that matters. She made me feel better. I don't know what it is but the older I get the less pain I can tolerate. It's frustrating. Anyway, she let me know I'll need surgery and we discussed other options during that surgery as well for another procedure I've been asking about so both can be done at once. She let me know I'll get more details in a few weeks at my pre-op appointment. I have seen Dr Lopez three or four times this year and every visit she is very thorough with me, listens to me, answers all my questions and never rushes me. Dr. Lopez has been my doctor for almost two decades. I appreciate her professionalism and guidance. I recommend her highly.

As a first-time pregnant at age 43 and a foreigner, I was initially happy to find a doctor quickly who made a good first impression. She seemed serene and calm, and her English and pronunciation were perfect to understand. However, some serious red flags soon emerged, and my positive impression dissipated like steam over a pot! I realized that she really doesn't care much about people, doesn't explain much, recommends expensive tests, and seems to want to get the most money out of you. She recommended 2 expensive genetic tests because of my age and asked if I wanted them without any explanation of what these tests exactly were or how much they cost. I didn't know anything about it yet and blindly believed her. We did the testing, which cost us a lot of money, and later, we found out that we could have had the same tests completely for free through the California screening program! She didn't inform me of this option, although it is her duty by California law to let patients know about such possibilities. Scheduling the appointments and tests were done as quickly as possible, clearly aiming to get the most money out of us. Never go to the first appointment earlier than week 11, as the first three months carry a high risk of miscarriage. I even had the genetic tests when the embryo was already dead (missed miscarriage), but we unfortunately didn't know it at the time thx to the bad timing. It was not necessary to do the test so quickly, but they are aware of the high risk of miscarriage and push you to act ASAP. Because one of the tests was positive, her office also tried to push me into another expensive genetic consultation. If I had undergone that consultation, it would have been just more money thrown out of the window. And after the miscarriage, they again tried to force me into surgery as soon as possible. I was smarter already and didn't let myself be pushed into it. Instead, I waited for a natural miscarriage, which was free and less risky than surgery. Avoid Dr. Lopez if you want a doctor who truly cares about people and not just money. I was really highly disappointed by her approach. If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I finally decided to transfer my care to a different OB group. Here are some, not all, of the reasons why. If you need an OB who is emotionally available, don't see Dr. Lopez. She's very disconnected, condescending, and makes you feel uncomfortable asking questions. She doesn't prefer to spend much time in the room and tends to rush through appointments. I was made to feel guilty about the weight that I've gained so far. I'm a tall individual and I don't feel unhealthy or "big" by any means, so I was thrown-off by her "concern" and the guilt that it's caused. As a healthcare professional, she should be aware (one would hope) that every patient is entirely different. Not everyone is going to fit perfectly in the 25 to 35 parameter weight gain that she seems to be stuck on. She needs to focus on improving the delivery of her words. I'm an OB nurse and requested a doctor note in order to stop caring for COVID patients while pregnant. I've cared for several COVID patients prior to pregnancy, so this was solely a temporary request. She said, "no, because then there wouldn't be any nurses left to care for the patients." Really, Dr. Lopez? Not every nurse in the hospital is pregnant. Plus, that's not an issue for either of us to worry about. It's a hospital staffing issue. Fellow nurses--you understand. I believe that if caring for COVID patients while pregnant is causing high anxiety and affecting work performance, your OB should have your back. She verbalized she wouldn't release me from work earlier than 36 weeks. She's aware I'm a nurse--hence, the paragraph above. I run around the hospital for 12+ hours per shift and it's getting more and more difficult waking up early and working long hours. Especially since I'm not sleeping well. It seems as though she has zero empathy. At 20 weeks, I expressed that I struggle with anxiety and have been since childhood, and am anticipating postpartum anxiety/depression. In tears, I asked if it was possible to be given a doctor note, when the time comes, for additional time off from work to spend with my family. She said, "well, if you don't really have anxiety/depression, I can't sign a fraudulent note." I was made to feel as though I needed to prove my anxiety. How does one do that? I couldn't stop crying and was in disbelief by her response. Her bedside manner is very unprofessional and needs immense improvement. All in all, nobody deserves to feel the way that I've felt. Especially a first-time expectant mother. Pregnancy is not easy and can be very stressful. If you're facing a similar experience or having doubts, seek out a different OB group. Zero Stars. If you are looking for someone who has: 1) Terrible bedside manner. 2) Makes you feel bad for weight gain. 3) Stresses you out throughout your pregnancy with a variety of scare tactics (i.e. stillborn statistics). Stress is good for a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, right? 4) Has no respect for your time. Keeps you waiting in a room with no pants on for over an hour until you have no choice but to leave because you have a job to get back to then acts like nothing happened the next time you see her. 5) Has staff that emails and calls rudely and demands money for payments that are not late or threatens to drop you as a patient while you get a second opinion. 6) Recommends expensive, specialized tests then doesn't make clear notes so the specialist actually knows what you want them to look for. 7) Disguises scare tactics and fear mongering as an abundance of caution so she can create a reason to perform an "emergency" C-section. It would be an inconvenience for her to have to wait on a laboring woman. It isn't as if she gets paid to do this or anything. Look no further! read more

Dr Lopez was my doctor during my first pregnancy. While I had the best experience with the saddle back memorial hospital staff, my experience with Dr. Lopez unfortunately was the opposite: - Bedside Manners: she is very disconnected, NO emotion of any kind, doesn't really explain things, rushes through appointments and can be rather condescending and doesn't share many words of encouragement - Delivery: I went into labor early in the morning and had to deal with their office's on call doctor (can't remember her name but I think she was the youngest one there) which was awful. She was very visibly annoyed when we called her when I went into labor, did not want to spend any time on the phone with us and when we called again to let her know that my water had broken, she kept insisting that it had not! - when adr Lopez finally came to my side at the hospital, I had already been in labor for 30 some hours and had spent almost all of my time until then with a nurse (very kind and capable). She would only spend a few minutes at a time with me before she would leave the room. - she made me push for 3.5 hours and when I finally decided I couldn't anymore she was still very reluctant to got for a c-section. I asked her how much longer and her answer was: could be half an hour, could be 3 more hours!! No compassion even during the worst times. She would later reveal that after 3.5 hrs of pushing, she couldn't even see a head and yet she still wanted me to continue despite the uncertainty and the agony. No sympathy or regard for her patient. - I would find out later on and after changing my OBGYN that I have narrow Pelvic archways, turns out that combined with the size of my baby (8 pounds), made me a prime candidate for a c-section. "I would have never allowed you to push for that long" we're the exact words of my new OBGYN... I wish I had trusted my gut and changed doctors after our initial visit with her when I felt the disconnect and lack of compassion. I shouldn't have gone through what I did during child birth had she been an advocate for me, her patient rather than checking the boxes and not getting dinged for allowing a patient to do a c-section. read more

I needed to find an OB after my insurance changed last year and i had heard good things about saddleback women's medical group. I knew I wanted to find an OB who was direct and well informed regarding high risk pregnancies. Dr Lopez seemed perfect as soon as I met her. I ended up getting pregnant just a few short months later, and she was extremely supportive when I unfortunately miscarried at 7 weeks. She reassured me that it would happen again and that i should take my time and try again only when i felt ready. About 4 months later, i conceived again, and dr Lopez and her team helped support me through my entire pregnancy. I was high risk due to a history of preeclampsia and a postpartum hemorrhage in my first pregnancy. She was extremely thorough, always highly responsive regarding any concerns, and direct regarding possible risks or outcomes. I gave birth to a perfectly baby boy and i feel so grateful to be healthy thanks to her attention to detail and excellent care. If you're reading this, you may know that the Quality of the OB is only part of the overall OB experience.... Having good office staff is also very very important. I can't express enough how wonderful the staff is at saddleback women's. Edgar at the front desk was always super friendly and welcoming, and Jordi, dr Lopez' medical assistant was an absolute rockstar with getting my questions answered, handling paperwork, and making my visits pleasant and fun. She constantly had me smiling and feeling at ease despite my anxiety toward the end of the pregnancy. I was very pleased with the other OB's in the practice also. This is super important to consider when choosing an OB for delivery. If i had delivered during one the other doctors' on call days, i would have felt comfortable being delivered by any of the doctors at the practice. I am disappointed to see some of the past reviews of doctor Lopez describing her as cold and unsupportive. Although i would not necessarily describe her as "warm and fuzzy", she was always kind, supportive and educated. She provided clear snd concise instructions and did everything to keep me and baby healthy. For me, the most important factors were that she was educated/well informed, and responsive, both of which she fulfilled very well. Stay away from this office! I should have paid more attention to previous reviews but I guess I had to learn my lesson the hard way. I waited a month to get an appointment, I drove 35 minutes to get there, plus more than 10 minutes to find a parking spot in their crowded parking lot. I got to the office 18 min. before my appointment but they refused to see me because, according to them, I wouldn't have time to fill in the forms. I'm sure I would have. Besides, how much time and focus could the doctor possibly give me if they are this rushed? Obviously they are overbooked. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

This review is only for the OBGYN Doctor Lopez and not for Saddleback Women's Hospital. I started seeing Dr. Rachel Lopez when I was about 15 weeks pregnant. This was for my first baby and I was so excited to start the process and finally meet my doctor. Dr. Lopez was very bland, not personal at all, rushed through appointments and ultrasounds and never really explained anything other than the very basic facts at each appointment. I felt SO disconnected from her and just could not imagine her or any doctor that was similar in personality as being there for the birth of my first child. It is such an important time and special process to go through so if you don't have a connection with your OBGYN, PLEASE look elsewhere! I did some research and read reviews and decided leave Dr. Lopez and switched over to Lisa Sherwood and Melissa Alexander the two Register Midwives at Saddleback Womens. I had a basic consultation with Lisa and Melissa and felt beyond thankful that I found them. They were so informative and caring and I had an instant connection with both of them. The (free) consultation was longer than ANY obgyn appointment I had previously and even though I was past the 20wk mark I still was treated like I had been in their care all along. The best part was that my insurance still covered having them as my midwife just as it would a regular OBGYN and my appointments were still at saddleback womens hospital. I gave birth to my daughter at Saddleback Womens which was beyond great... the nurses and staff were wonderful. and NO, you do not need to have or plan a natural birth to have a midwife. They are so much more informative about pregnancy nutrition and give you plenty of options. They were hard to find so Google Saddleback Midwife program or Lisa Sherwood Midwife and you will be thankful that you did :) read more

Dr lopez did a great job getting our son out! She is professional and listens to all of our concerns. During labor she makes good judgements and doesn't jump to conclusions acting when needed. Her experience makes us feel comfortable. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a good obgyn. read more

I saw Dr. Lopez almost two months ago while I was gonna start trying for pregnancy. She barely spent 10 minutes for my first visit and asked me to do couple of hormonal lab works in order to tell me the exact write time for trial. I had to do one of them on the 3rd day of my period and the second one on the 1st day of my ovulation. She left the room without giving me any chance to ask how I should calculate the first day of the ovulation. I asked the front desk and she asked me to either get ovulation calendar from the pharmacy or search it online since she didn't know anything !!!!! I did the lab work with the calculation I figured out through different websites. Getting the result, they called and asked why I did the lab work on the day I was not ovulate ? After explaining them what happened, they promised to ask doctor Lopez and give me a call back. Funny enough, I'm pregnant but I'm still waiting for their call !!!!!! Lolllll....
