About a year ago, my husband and I made the difficult decision to pack up our life in West Seattle and head back home to San Francisco. We planned to sell our beautiful home and we hired an agent with whom we had worked with previously when buying. While we hadn't been impressed with him on numerous occasions, he was a nice guy and we figured he'd get the job done. Besides, we figured the market was hot and our beautiful home would sell itself. That assumption was the biggest financial mistake of my life to date. I have learned the hard way that your sales team matters. It can make or break an already challenging and stressful experience. Finally, after 5 months and tons of cash for unauthorized remodeling work, our home finally hit the market. By this point, it was October. It was supposed to hit the market in June. This agent had redone the bathrooms himself, put up fences, painted our walls, and put his agency's banners all over our property and the vacant lot next door. This comical attempt to market himself while grossly over pricing our home had the expected and obvious results of very little interest from buyers. His lack of market knowledge was a disaster. After 6 months, 10's of thousands of dollars, and many nights of lost sleep, we knew we needed to find a new sales team if this home was ever going to sell. I got a recommendation for RARE Northwest from my agent here in SF. I set up a call with Rachel and we connected immediately. She listened and gave her honest feedback about our messy situation. Her response was real and grounded in her understanding of the Seattle market. She didn't candy coat the facts or tell me what I wanted to hear.
