Went in at 3:30 pm talked to both Gentlemen in the front they set me up with a rack and a cargo box all Thule Brand. They installed it in about 40 minutes . I was in and out in about an hour. Price is competitive my overall set up was a better deal than what I could find at REI ,Sears, the Mazda dealership, and comparable within a few dollars of what is available online but no wait and immediate service . I would recommend to let them install a larger system/complete system . I asked them about transferring the rack from my car to a another car they were honest as to what would work and what wouldn't work. read more

The only star I do give is for the guy who helped me was very very nice. Other than that I would give this place less than one star if I could. I went into the store to get my husband a rack for the back of his truck that we can add attachments to for kayak, bikes, luggage box, etc and is adjustable. I spent a couple hours in there asking questions and more questions so I could get exactly what I wanted. He showed me several bike racks that fit and he insisted the racks we already own will definitely work on them. My husband installed it in the back of his truck on Christmas Day and drove all the way out there today to start adding to his rack. First, he has a two year old in one arm and this giant box in the other while the staff wouldn't get off their lazy asses to even offer to help. Second, they told him there were no connections for that system including the ones we already own or anything what he was looking for after he walked them to the truck and explained it all to them. They looked clueless when he said he wanted to have this over camping gear to hold bikes etc. they just could not understand the request. Then, they will NOT refund and resell a system that will work for him. They will not store credit him or even tell him what does work with this system...they just pretty much said you are screwed bye. ....ALL after.....when I purchased the items and was helped to my car the employee stood the box upright, with two tiny kids with me and it fell over when he walked away from it denying and scratching my car enough that it has to have body work done and file an insurance claim. The owner came down when it happened and sat his butt on a stool and never offered even an apology. This place is absolute garbage, they tell you what you want to hear just to make a sell. No refunds or exchanges even when you are shopping as a gift and telling them it may come back for something else if it isn't what he wants. DONT GO THERE!!!!!!!! read more

I ordered a cargo carrier that was not in stock around NYE. I was told it would take about 10-14 days to receive it, and they would call me when it was in. Needless to say, I called on the 14th and the item had "not been sent from the manufacturer". I'd say that's an easy way of stating "we forgot to order this...our bad". After I asked for my money back, I wasn't offered one apology. The only thing the guy at the desk could say was that he didn't know why this happened. I would rate this zero stars, however, that is not an option. REI ordered the same item and received it within the week. Will never go here again, nor will I recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

I had a car with a hitch and hitch-mounted bike rack, and recently traded the whole thing in for a newer used car. I got a new hitch installed at San Diego Trailer Supply, and they recommended Rack-it when I said I was looking for a new bike rack. Recently I stopped in to Rack-It to see if they had (or could order) a hitch-mounted bike rack. The gentleman in the store asked what I was looking for, and I told him: a hitch-mounted bike rack that folds down (even with the bike(s) on it), so you could access the hatch. He told me that they don't exist. Well, that was news to me, because I previously had one that did just that, the Rola TX-102 2-Bike Rack. https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Bike-Racks/Rola/59400.html And after having shopped on Amazon, I know there are other models that do this as well, such as the Softride Element Parallelogram and some Swagman and Yakima models. Here's what you expect when you go to a specialty store: That they know a lot about the thing they specialize in. It's fine to say you don't carry something (model/maker), or that you don't think a particular product is a good one (please qualify), but to categorically state that something 'doesn't exist' does not speak well of your knowledge, and by extension your capabilities. While I can't speak to Rack-It's service in terms of ordering, installing, etc., I can say they don't really know what they're talking about in terms of product awareness or knowledge, and that they're condescending and dismissive. More simply put, they don't know enough to know they don't know everything and shouldn't say things like, 'that doesn't exist.' I certainly wouldn't return to Rack-It based on that experience. You're much better off researching and ordering off etrailer or amazon. (And for anyone interested, the Rola was pretty good!) read more

Today I went to Rack-it with intentions on picking up a bike hitch system and a roof rack system, for our Honda CRV. I bought Thule racks years back at their old location and they were very helpful, but fast forward 15 years later, we walk in, the guy in the front was very rude and looked completely stoned. After asking him about a certain set up for a rear hitch bike rack system, he answered, "We don't sell anything like that", ok, that is great, but you have a building full of many different systems, maybe he could of showed us an alternative product, you know, be a salesman! We were then going to ask about a roof rack, but this guy was such an unhelpful ass, and I was not going to give these guys any of my $$$$$. I am very disappointed, I have sent at least 6 of my friends to shop for racks there, and I return for at least a $900 purchase and this guy won't even lift his lazy ass off of his chair to help us out. I've been looking for a rack unit for my pick-up to transport paddle boards. People kept pointing me to Rack-It so I went. They have a wide range of options and helped me select a rack to fit my needs. Jay was really hepful and arranged to install the rack same-day so I drove home a few hours later with my new Thule rack. I came in to pick up a part and asked the guy at the counter to look at my rack situation on my car. It was 40 minutes before closing but he acted like the doors had already been locked. He finally came out and pretended to glance at my racks and said they were fine and ran back in to the store. The whole time he was sullen, rude. Whatever happened to treating a customer with a little respect? I spent a fair amount of money at that store over the years but I won't be back unless I absolutely have to. It might just be that one sales person - the other guy at the counter seem pretty friendly. But management has to get a handle on employees working with the public and customer service or they will lose customers. I don't need bad attitude I can, and will, go elsewhere. read more

After visting another bike shop, I was told to best shop on line for a bike rack for my class B RV. I needed a rear hitch extension to allow for a mounted spare tire to secure bikes. I was excited to go in today, but the end result was less than thrilling. I wanted to have them drill three holes on each side of my high rise camper so I could mount eye bolts with the eyes on the inside in order to string some cargo netting on the top of the inside of the shell to add some interior storage capacity. They said they wouldn't do it. I still don't understand why and they gave no explanation. I asked if they would put artificial rain gutters on and the answer was yes. I asked if they'd put articifial rain gutters in and just not install the rain gutters. They said no. I'm totally confused. All I wanted was for them to do the same thing they do to every other shell they drill into, which was drill into mine. Wouldn't do it and they made no suggestions of where else to look. Awesome guys that work there. Here's my story... I bought an Inno surf rack many years back from Rack-It and one of the racks locking device recently malfunctioned and would no longer keep the surfboard strapped down. I emailed the Inno company the they contacted me 40 minutes later with Rack-It's info and told me to have them look at it. I was planning on somehow rigging up the racks to make it work or the last resort to bust down and buy a new rack. Like I said, I'd have the racks for a longtime (I bought them from their previous location) and was very please from all the use it received. These guys at the shop quickly looked at my rack, decided it was broke and before I knew it they were installing a brand new unit to my car (for free) and said it was still under warranty. I was in and out of their store within 15 minutes with the biggest smile on my face because I now have a brand new working unit. My only downfall was I felt bad because I wanted to tip these guys but realized I didn't have any cash on me so I made sure as soon as I got home that I would write a review. After inheriting part of a SUP rack from a friend I called in to Rack-It. The staff was knowledgable and walked me through the exact parts and process I would need to put the kit together. They ordered everything to the store and installed the system. A few weeks after a part fell off and they welcomed me back, ordered the new part, and re-installed. I needed to get a rack system for my car and someone directed me to Rack-It in Kearney Mesa. When I first walked in I was pretty happy because they have an extensive selection. The first salesman who helped me was courteous, knowledgeable and pleasant. Unfortunately, he handed me off to another salesman who was condescending, patronizing and apparently put out by my questions. Since I was about to spend $600 for a rack system, I thought it was reasonable to see what the components looked like. Well, salesman #2 disagreed. It went downhill from there. I found Rack-It from google searching and was in the area so I stopped by. I forget who I spoke with but they are extremely helpful and friendly. I found exactly what I was looking for but I wasn't looking to buy that day. The rep there told me they are usually 10% less than most retailers.
