There's still a decent selection in stock, and things can be ordered for you if needed. The guys working are so knowledgeable and will definitely take care of you. Prices and purchasing process is what it is in this climate.. actually, hubby said he got a pretty good deal on some ammo.. idk much about this stuff, but hubby left happy with his purchases and the service. Went for some 223, and told the guy which 223 I wanted. He played dumb and grabbed a 500 round ammo box of the better rounds. I had to correct them. Went for some M1 Carbine. Bought a lifetime supply at a good price. Nowhere on the box does it say that the stuff is steel core, prohibited from all ranges. (At least I'm set for the Zombie Apocalypse.) I ended up buying my own reloading gear. Oh, and the parking lot totally sucks. It's one of those lots with tiny spaces that the enviro-nannies in the city planning board required, hoping that it will force everyone to buy a 2005 Nissan Leaf. read more

Today, I needed specialty lead-free ammo for a hunting trip and decided to give them another shot, and I'm glad I did. I was greeted right away and completely changed my experience. This guy was friendly, knowledgeable, and really helpful. He made solid recommendations for future trips, but I stuck with my usual ammo since my rifle prefers it. I have been to several locations in different cities. The people and staff are always friendly and have answers to your questions or can give you advice. The prices are decent and is worth it before the new CA gun levy and excise tax starts in July. The new levy will be an increase of 11% on top of the federal 10% tax excise. Ammo is over priced. You get better deals going to small shops, or even Turners. I'd recommend calling around. Reply - I called, and your employee said that the cheapest .223 is 65¢ a round as of 01/24/23 at this location. As a store that specializes in ammunition, I'd expect more competitive pricing on common calibers. Local shops in San Diego shouldn't be out pricing you. Reply - I called in asking for the cheapest .223 ammunition in stock, and I made that clear over the phone. We did discuss the cost of PMC, yes, but I wasn't looking for anything specific. LAX Ammo is a great place to buy ammo but their prices for name brand ammo is not exceptional and not always the best price in the San Diego area. But where LAX Ammo shines is they will have ammo when it is scarce everywhere else and the LAX Ammo brand of ammo has a great price! BUT, in my experience with the LAX Ammo brand handgun the ammo is not loaded to the same velocity, pressures, and consistency as say Remington, Winchester, or S&W ammo. I put it more in the category of PPU and the like. But is cheap to shoot and fun plinking ammo and that's what counts if you are just out for fun. Where LAX Ammo is lacking is in the staff they hire. Don't get me wrong some of the guys are fantastic, but without fail there is always one guy in the shop that is a total -well you know- this is the reason for only 4 stars from me. Its almost as if they feel like you have no choice but to buy ammo from them, and the reason LAX Ammo is not my first choice. read more

Ammo is crazy pricey right now. I appreciate that they're first coke, first serve vs limited. The main white guy is so knowledgeable. He's fast, thorough, and a wealth of info. The other shorter Asian guy pulled the wrong box for us, but we can still use it so it's fine. A bit overconfident, but still fast. TLDR: I got over screwed out of $60 because they didn't mention sales and I wasn't paying attention. I bought about 3000 rounds from LAX at a gun show in Del Mar a few years ago, so I was excited to see one that I didn't have to pay a cover to spend money at. You'll see that I was wrong about that. Maybe it's an Encinitas thing, but the guy at the counter was complaining about "working for free" and "barely breaking even" while I was there too. And I know it should be considered "good customer service", but being asked,"What are you looking for" right when I walked in for the first time and hadn't even looked around was a little jarring. The person that got served before me was thanked repeatedly for their business and asked to tell their family and friends about the shop. I spent almost $700 after tax and barely got a "goodbye" because the employees found themselves embroiled in a conversation I wasn't allowed to be a part of. I guess it doesn't help that I don't look the part of an avid shooter. Still, I spent enough for a, "Thanks. Please come back." Where the stars really got knocked off is the buyer's remorse upon reviewing my receipt and their website: I wanted some 22lr. I was told the best deal in the place was a 2000 round can for $95. Good deal, except for the box of 500 for $19. That's 2000 for $76. I wanted 500 of .380 reloads, but they only had 1000 because 500s didn't sell. That's fine. I asked for 500 45 reloads. They're $155. He failed to mention they had a deal on 500 45 new for $143. I asked for 500 40s. I got home and realized they'd given me new rather than reloads. $140 vs $110. I guess it's my own fault for not paying attention, but I still feel like I got screwed out of $60, not to mention getting twice as much .380 as I went in for. Given the complaints this guy has been making, I guess they won't be in business when I need ammo again, but if I do go back I'll be sure to pull up the calculator and website to confirm everything. read more

I used to visit the store in LA but have moved to San Diego recently. First of all what other people have posted regarding the in store price difference being higher than the online price is true. In the past it was not as obvious but now looking at their website it is clearly stated. The staff were friendly and helpful. The amount of ammo and types of ammo was plentiful. They had some harder to find cartridges. Pricing wise they are unfortunately not competitive with other local stores. To get an idea they are selling re-manufactured ammo at the same price other stores are selling brand new ammo. read more

Decent store, but a couple of places for improvement: 1) For an ammo store, one would expect the most common calibers to be in stock, such as 38 special and 357 mag. Loose wadcutter rounds do not count. 2) Online pricing for out-of-state is much better than local pricing, which defeats the purpose of having a local store.
