There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said. Dave organized my party (a group of six twenty-something year olds) to explore and paddleboard on the Malibu seas for my 23rd birthday. We met up in the early morning in Marina Del Rey and promptly got on his boat, which was SUPER comfortable - like a living room on the seas. Dave allowed us to bring food and drink (and draaank :P) and even provided us with a cooler & ice. Not only that, but when we realized we neglected to bring cups to hold our mimosas in, Dave had extra on his boat - now that's what I call amazing service! On our trip, we ran into a school of dolphins and my group was positively ECSTATIC. Later, we paddleboarded in an area of open water. Throughout the whole thing, Dave was incredibly knowledgeable and patient, and most importantly, extremely chill to be around. My friends and I don't exactly do this often, but we're so glad we did! To anyone who is hesitant about learning how to paddleboard or isn't very familiar with the ocean in general, I would STRONGLY recommend planning a trip with Dave. Captain Dave made our day unforgettable! The trip was a surprise and he made sure to help me set this up. The boat was prepared for us, with clean blankets and cushions so we could lounge and sit out front on the "trampoline". A wonderful day for everybody included paddle boarding with sea lions, impromptu "stand-up on a paddle board" lessons, an education on marine wildlife, and relaxing on the ocean and all this before 930am! A few weeks ago, I took a Catalina trip with some friends on Dave's catamaran. He had bottled water, blankets, pillows, paddleboards, and most important of all, he has ALOHA! The trip was so much fun and the experience was definitely something to remember for years. I really want to go back to Catalina or even Paradise Cove, because I had a blast. Another great thing is that Dave took lots of pics of us, which helped a lot as I don't have a camera phone nor a waterproof camera. Dave is super cool and very easy to chat with. Already rated 5 stars but I still had to share my experience. My friends and I went on a private boat cruise from Marina Del Ray to Malibu. We played our own tunes on his speakers and drank champagne during our smooth ride to Malibu. Once at the Kelp forest we anchored and started paddle boarding. If you have never paddle boarded, Dave gives you a free lesson. We loved it!! We went in the middle of October and the water felt great! For lunch, Dave took a suba dive and caught some fresh lobster for us!! He cooked the lobster right there on the boat. It was such a cool experience!!!! If you want to snorkel, Dave provides all the necessary gear. Us girls opted to lay on the boat and soak up the rays. On the way back to Marina del Ray he took turns and pulled each one of us on the paddle board! We got to knee board and paddle surf!!! Once our arms and legs were shaking from soreness we grabbed some blankets (provided on the boat) and headed back. Luckily, we came across a school of friendly dolphins. Dave was so considerate and followed the dolphins, turning the boat around and around so we could scream like girls and get our dolphin fix. The day couldn't have been better. BUT then... Dave sent me an email with a link to over 200 pictures of our amazing experience. Every moment professional captured. When I'm back in town, I will go on another boat cruise. Wow, this trip was so much fun! We booked a boat trip out with Dave for my dad's birthday while he was visiting us in LA. Dave was helpful from the minute we connected on the phone, and he was an amazing host! We were a group of all ages (youngest age 9, oldest 69), and every one of us had an amazing day. Dave was great company, and taught us all about the sea life we saw; definitely kept the kids (and us!:) ) engaged and learning, and having a blast the whole time. My family and I went to Malibu for the Christmas holiday and seriously our time with Dave made our whole vacation! First, he took us out on the boat for an adventure day. We got to paddle board and ride the boards behind the boat. It was really surreal being on a paddle board that far out and interacting with sea life! The next day we met Dave on the beach for surf lessons and he had my husband and myself surfing within an hour. I truly credit that to his teaching! It was so fun, we will be planning another vacation with Dave taking us spear fishing and any other fun activity he can think of. This is worth every single penny and more! I met Dave Ogle when I moved to CA last year from NYC, and wanted to find a good teacher for my girls to learn surfing from. I have two daughters, now 7 and almost 9, and it was important to me to find someone that had a lot of patience, was conscientious, and my daughters would feel safe with. Needless to say, they went from being afraid of the ocean to loving their time in the ocean on their boards! I soon began to surf with Dave myself, and no matter what time we schedule the session (usually at the crack of dawn), Dave is always early and prepared. checking out the conditions well ahead of time to ensure an enjoyable experience. This year I found out that Dave had a new catamaran, and I jumped at the chance to take my wife, girls, brother and his girlfriend out on a trip. Even though the weather turned out not to be ideal, we had an incredible time on the boat trip, which was from Marina Del Rey to Malibu and back. The catamaran is extremely clean and new, Dave is extremely knowledgeable about the ocean (with 30yrs of seafaring experience under his belt), and everyone felt safe from the moment we set foot on deck, especially my wife! We stopped at a number of spots, and Dave showed my girls many pretty sights, spotted a bunch of dolphins for them, and even found a whale that we followed for a little while. Dave took some amazing action photos too (and shared them with us when we got home). We stopped the boat by Paradise Cove, and Dave pulled out his and our boards, and we all went paddling, my girls included. He also showed them how to fish, and took great care in making sure they enjoyed that experience thoroughly too. After that, Dave set my brother, and then me, up behind the boat with a rope tow, and we had a blast wake-surfing as he steered. All in all, it was a phenomenal experience, and I couldn't recommend Dave and Coastal Adventure Charters any higher. My only regret is that we didn't get a chance to get out with Dave for an overnight trip to Catalina, but we'll definitely be going out with him again to do that with the while family. All of the previous 5-star reviews are consistent in that they are all on-the-money about how great Captain Dave's service through the Malibu Coastal Adventures. I highly recommend going on a nautical adventure with him! One weekend in May, a group of girls (myself included) went on his customized catamaran, the Zephyr, to go to Paradise Cove (?) for our friend's bachelorette weekend. Captain Dave was extremely accommodating, professional, and very easy to get along with. He safely took us through the choppy waters - the wind was especially bad that day - navigating through the tumultuous waves all while entertaining us, taking photos, and telling us his amazing stories about his past. (Pepperdine Alum in the house!) He recommended that we go to the Malibu coast/beach/pier instead of the Paradise Cove because of the choppy waters, which we gladly accepted. His boat was very clean and accommodating, filled with all sorts of supplies to make the experience enjoyable. He is a certified teacher of many different things, so once we arrived at our destination, he taught us how to paddle board. We even had the opportunity to paddle board near some Dolphins! That was exciting. He took many pictures throughout the trip, and he posts some of them on his website blog. On our way back, he towed some of us on a surfboard behind his boat. I LOVED it! Captain Dave is AMAZING! All of the reviews below are TRUE! Dave helped us find a catamaran last minute, with less than 5 days' notice, on a weekend that was booked solid. He helped my whole family feel very comfortable, sharing facts and anecdotes about the sea life we were watching, and helping members of our party paddleboard. We had a wonderful time with him. There were several members of our crew who got sea sick really bad, so he altered course and took us to calmer waters for the duration of our voyage. Again, could not say better things about Dave. Our first experience with Dave ran very smoothly. He brought boards, wet suites, gave us a safety lesson, and watched us get off shore to make sure we were A-okay. We were delighted with his friendliness and chose to use his services with a larger group. He sounded a little hesitant an not excited at all to be renting us equipment. Dave was great! He was so easy going and funny, and knew the area really well. My friends and I had a blast on a 3 hour whale watching trip with him. The boat was very comfortable with soft seats, blankets, music and bottled water. SURF'S UP! Just had an incredible morning lesson with Dave. First off, I called the day of, and he was able to squeeze me into his busy schedule. He brought a wet suit and a board to Zuma Beach where he taught me about what tides I'd want as a beginner surfer girl. He told me he'd have me standing up on a board in less than 15m, we did it in less than 10. This guy is knows how to immediately pin point your mistakes and help you correct them. I was riding waves in 40 minutes. Dave is positive, patient and just an all-around cool instructor. I'll definitely call him when I'm ready for my Level 2 lesson. read more

Had a great time with Zach learning how to surf (unfortunately couldn't use Dave he was injured at the time) but Zach was a great substitute! It was a great time, he met us at the beach, showed us the basics on the beach and had us in the water within 5 minutes. Both my husband and are were standing up within 10 minutes with Zach's help and instruction! It was so much fun! This was the highlight of my sister and her family's spring break. I was searching for the best whale watching and found Dave via Yelp. We had the most amazing experience. From Sea Lions, to an incredible school of dolphin that we boated with for over a half hour, to whale spotting near and far, and then he taught us how to paddle board (and saw more whales!). It was truly incredible. And I'm a wimp about the cold water - but we were well taken care of with all the gear - including wet suits. I just chartered a boat from Malibu coastal adventures today and got up close to at least 8 different gray whales in three different pods. Three of the whales in the second pod we saw were super friendly and put on a show for us, staying around for a unusually long time and exhaling rainbow tinted plumes from their blow holes! It was incredible, and Dave provides a wonderfully knowledgeable service. He knew exactly where to go to spot the whales. Dave's catamaran is nice and low so you can get a really close look at the sea life, so low that a baby sea lion ended up jumping onto our boat! He also took us to a cove to teach us paddle boarding and provided all the equipment and wet suits. We booked a 2-hour beginning paddleboard lesson for 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 6 & 7). Dave was outstanding! We met him at a beach in Malibu, he had all of the boards and wetsuits ready to go. I treated my 9 year old daughter to a surf lesson with Dave for her birthday. Can I give more than 5 stars?! This review is about The Man DAVE and his kite boarding abilities and patience with me, the student. Let me just say that if you are even remotely thinking about taking a kiting lesson, make sure to find this guy. He is patient, prepared and skilled. Kiting is a sport that's kind of hard to predict. You have to have the right conditions in order to get any value out of a lesson. No wind, no kiting. Dave was great about working around my super busy schedule and informing me when he thought would be a good day. I've had previous experience with kiting, but its been more than a couple years since I've been out. I was a little nervous going out on my own after so long, so I was looking for someone to help me out with the basics again. The day we met he was fully prepared with all the gear needed. He even had a wet suit ready for me. Which is great because the water is a little on the not so warm side. 5 years ago I considered myself to be an intermediate kiter. It turns out I never fully grasped the vital skill of body dragging. I don't know how Dave did it, but by the end of the day I finally grasped the concept. Dave is an experienced surfer, kiteboarder, and great teacher. He also is a boat captain so explaining all of the ocean conditions - tide, waves, wind is second nature to him...I learned a ton. A local kiter had recommended Dave so we set up about 6 lessons over a 2 to 3 week period depending on the wind conditions. He got me through the basics in no time and I especially liked that he was sensitive about using the time wisely because I was on a budget. We still stay in touch and he gives me tips to continue to help me progress when I see him on the beach. He also hooked me up with a used like new kite from a friend of his. Kiteboarding is a difficult sport to learn and through Dave I got a great start and got introduced to many other kiters who all try to help each other out. read more

I called my credit card company's concierge service to find my family and I a half day boat rental during our trip to Malibu. They sent me the information for Malibu Coastal Adventures and told us that they had an opening for July 3rd. I called Dave a few days prior to the 3rd, as we arrived in Malibu. From the beginning Dave was extremely nice and accommodating. He let me know that he only sails out once a day so that way if we decide to stay a few hours later than we originally thought, we would have the opportunity. The night before we were supposed to sail out we saw the on forecast that it will be cold (We were supposed to leave at 8am) so I e-mailed Dave and asked if we can sail out a little later. He promptly responded and again, was super accommodating. The boat was extremely clean, and all we had to bring was snacks and water! Dave took us south from Marina Del Rey, where we were able to anchor and hop off and he taught us how to paddle board! The kids (ages 5, 11 and 13) had such an amazing time! We all got out of our comfort zones and tried something new! Captain Dave also taught the 5 year old how to fish! All the adults had an amazing and relaxing time as well (in total we were a group of 8). Dave was such a pleasure to spend most of our day with, and we definitely look forward to booking him again on our next trip out to Malibu! Definitely well worth every penny!!!
