A flashback to a previous lifetime. The time I generally describe as my misspent youth. Growing up in western Washington state meant a lot to many people, and everyone has their own backstory. Looking back I can't imagine wanting to ever leave. Actually I never did. But I leave I did, and I mourned it for the first decade. Then during the middle of the second decade I ceased to miss aspects and eventually came 'round to mourning it again, but for entirely unexpected reasons. But yesterday I reached into my 500Gb hard drive and scooped out a selection of CDs to cram inside my iPod Classic to listen to on a drive to a distant city called Plover (I like to childishly call it P Lover) for what was to be a single trip for work. It turned into two days, which wasn't a bad thing. During the drive I broke out Stoner Witch, The Melvins 90s major label disc. Listening to that in my very awesome new Pioneer car stereo was way better than my nice but not sturdy home speakers. So upon todays end of workday I wanted to find a used Cd store or a thrift store that might have something cool. Instead I found an awe inspiring little store that's chock full of EVERYTHING, that is if everything is rock music related. I didn't bother to look at the possibility they might also sell schlocky country music by crappy rock musicians that decided to go the so wrong right wing GOP path to Ooops. I wandered into the wrong thought. I found a place that is so awesome I will make this area a destination instead of only a place to stop for a whiz or perhaps because work brought me. GO! Owners a complete dick. Bitched at me for trying to put the CD back where the rest of the artists CDs were. "If it doesn't go in easy it doesn't go there" guess what dickhead, the CD fit in the same empty spot where the rest of the them were. Then I had to overhear him being a jerk to some guy who clearly wanted to talk to him. Then 5 minutes later another group comes in and he wastes no time yelling at them too for nothing! Best record store on planet Earth. The owner is an encyclopedia of all-things-music, and the staff are top notch. EXCELLENT selection of new releases on CD and LP, otherwise they can order pretty much anything you can imagine. Good tunes and good times. If I had one problem with the shop, I guess I'd say it's probably all of the hugging. Not sure if they always hug me because they enjoy my presence, or if they can smell the emergency meat I keep in my pockets. read more

Not very impressive if you're into vinyl. Besides CD's, all they have is new vinyl and not much of it. They should name the store Radio Kaos CD's or Radio Kaos Music instead of Radio Kaos RECORDS. A record store it ain't. Hipster kid running the counter was a bit of a d-bag, too. read more

This is a wonderful place to shop for your music needs in downtown Stevens Point. I've been shopping here for about 10 years as of writing this. The owner has been in the business for ~30 years, is extremely knowledgeable about new and old music across most genres, jazz, hip-hop, rock, blues, reggae, rap...the only genre I can't speak for is classical and that's just because it hasn't come up in conversation. CD's and Vinyl records are primarily what is sold, with new releases sold every week, the shelves are kept current. There is also a balance of what is on the shelves, if you look on the shelves or just ask, there is something here for everyone. If you come in and a record you're looking for isn't available, ask and they will probably order it for you and it'll be there in about a week (give or take). The records (when I say records, I am referring to both vinyl products and compact discs) are fairly priced, they are usually (but not always) priced in a way that is comparable to Amazon or Wal-Mart, and are usually still cheaper than going to Shopko, Kmart, or Target, and you will for sure find a greater variety of music at Radio KAOS than at any of the aforementioned (excluding Amazon-but that's not a fair comparison). It is worth mentioning that they will sell used CD's, but not Vinyl, which I think is fair-it's easy to tell if a CD is scratched, but to sell a used vinyl you really need to listen to the whole thing. If you are the type of person who likes to trade your records and that sort of thing, you really are better off selling it at a garage sail or going to a pawn shop, because this isn't that kind of store. This is the kind of store you go to find a hard to find album that you can't get anywhere else, this is the kind of store you go to to build your music collection and expand the music you listen to. If you want to have an experience of going into a record store, the vibe, the music, and being around other people who love a wide variety of music, then this is the place to go. To summarize: Extremely wide variety of music, new releases weekly, if they don't have it, they can order it, great vibe, great atmosphere, reasonable prices. read more

The store itself was actually a pretty cool place, with a lot of interesting music spanning all genres. I was having a really great time admiring the collection of albums with my buddy, as it was his birthday and we were doing some shopping accordingly. Too bad the guy running the place was an absolute asshole. Worst "customer service" experience I've had in quite a long time. I'm all for supporting local business, and I like trying to buy my albums in record stores when I'm able, but I also like being treated with some semblance of respect, as opposed to having some bitter old man exclaim that we were insulting peoples music tastes (we were pulling out albums occasionally and laughing between each other, due to nostalgia from music listening experiences of years passed). My buddy, a very shy, introverted guy, was made to feel like shit and was ridiculed like a child, simply because the guy didn't even bother to inquire as to what was actually being said. If you guys have had positive experiences with the store, then I'm not going to tell you not to give him business. As I mentioned, the selection is pretty great, and the environment of the store was pretty decent as well (apart from a hint of an odor that brought to mind cat piss with Febreeze sprayed upon it). And maybe the guy's actually a really cool guy, and I just happened to catch him on a bad day. But I truly believe you'd be better off either buying the albums from Amazon, or directly from the artist themselves, or perhaps even from another record store out of town (I don't think there's really suitable alternatives in Point). Coming from someone who's been regularly satisfied by his experiences in record stores throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest (across the country, even), you can do a hell of a lot better than Radio Kaos Records. read more
