After months of anticipation, I finally made it down to Radio Mexico. Given both my proximity to the restaurant and my love of good Mexican food (not to mention the way I lovingly facebook-stalked Radio Mexico around the time of its opening), it is shocking that it has taken me so long to get here. But finally, I made it and now I am kicking myself for not coming earlier and being one of the hype-makers myself. While St Kilda's other Mexican offering, Bluecorn, is tasty and fun, Radio Mexico is even more authentic in its approach, yet with nice little innovations. My grilled fish taco was tender and delicious, while the pumpkin and goats curd taco was a taste sensation that even meateaters should really consider trying. We also got the frijoles con aguacata, which was great to scoop up with our leftover tortilla chips from the guacamole. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse, which was lovely but we expected it to be infused with more of a chilli kick. My only real criticism is that there were not extra sauces on the tables - the sauces already on the tacos were good (especially on the pumpkin) but I like to slather my tacos in enough spice to give me hiccups. Next time: I want to try the cerviche and the coconut sundae - good thing summer is coming! read more

we showed up at 6:30pm on a saturday night and we were offered an hour wait, or a table outside that was not licensed. since i was driving, i didn't mind not drinking and the husband agreed... although he did look a bit sad when we saw some dos equis being served to patrons indoors. we ordered the totopos and added guac & house made sour cream. it was super delish and i made the social faux pas of double (and triple) dipping, but it made it soooo good. the pork carnitas were amazing. AMAZING. so tasty and flavorful. mm i'm drooling just thinking about it. tried the crab and corn tacos, i wasn't as impressed, but they were okay. i'd go there again, but the waiting puts me off a bit. plus st kilda is a bit of a nightmare to get to from the eastern 'burbs. an hour drive PLUS an hour wait? i'd have to really be in the mood. read more

All time favourite Mexican in Melbourne! The most delicious tacos (definitely order any of the fish, prawn or pork), best corn on the Cobb, great guacamole and awesome margaritas! This place is fun and relaxed. Great place for friends on weekends or for a midweek Mexican fix. You can never order to much as everything tastes amazing. I visited Radio Mexico for my sisters birthday & we had a fantastic time! We tried a few different dishes amongst our group & loved everything, esp the soft tacos & the corn. Margaritas were fantastic too & the bill was really reasonable. I would rec Radio Mexico to anyone. read more

Good service and some of the best Mexican in Melbourne. Definitely order the guacamole, BBQ pork belly tacos and costras. Even though it was busy, we didn't feel like we waited a long time for a table or for food, and overall had a really good experience. Can't wait to come back! read more

For me, once a place is a favourite, it has to do something pretty bad for me to dislike it. And Radio Mexico is yet to do so. Sure, they may give me the menu, let me spend 15 minutes drooling over which favourites I'll revisit, only to tell me upon ordering I'll do no such thing as they've run out. Sure, they may play the music so loud that on my last visit, as a 'get to know you' dinner with my sister and her new boyfriend, we shouted, mimed a little, before giving up and silently scoffing salsa and staring into our margaritas. But one bite of a Baja fish taco (and a few sips of a margarita) I've forgotten all about that and I'm back in Mexican heaven! read more

Sadly, this was not as good as expected. The service was abysmal; our server was zombie like, like a ghost disappearing and zero enthusiasm. We ordered two margaritas and had to send them back-very sour as if only limes and tequila used. I don't mind a mediocre drink but at $18 they shouldn't suck! The salsas were nice, the fish taco was average-nice but not inspired. With very few choices for Mexican food I can see why people flock here. If you're from a place like Chicago don't expect this place to blow your mind. If you're really in the mood for Mexican food this might satisfy your craving. read more

Mexican food in Australia is a hit and miss anyways, but the Radio Mexico in St Kilda and Northcote do a good job at being boutique but decent Mexican. It's pricy, not your typical local California or Mexico City taqueria prices, but does pretty good Mexican food. Just wildly overpriced. read more

Tired of waiting for the place to open. Yelp says it opens at 4 but the restaurant employees said 5. Showed back up at 5:05 and all of the cooks were outside smoking at the front door and said to come back in another 5 minutes. Sorry but you lost a customer read more

I have been several times, the food is authentic and good ingredients. The first few times the service was good to average. But we loved the food and the ambience so kept coming back. However the last time we went the food was under cooked and we mentioned this to the staff that took it to the chef and brought it back out telling us thats the way it should be. However I dont believe pork mince should be served still red, maybe i am wrong. But the fact that the food was just brought back ad refused to be re made or even warmed up ruined the experience for me, and I wont be going back unfortunately. Don't even bother y'all. Icky hipster Melbourne service. We were left waiting to be seated for nearly 2 hours while people who were friends were the host walked right in and filled up at least 6 tables before we were finally seated. Food was stingy, expensive, and frankly not that good. Quesadillas were dry, tacos were fairly flavorless, nachos were an actual joke. Not worth it, go to Los Latinos or Las Amates instead if you'd actually like to enjoy your food and service. read more

Great mexican, hard to find in Melbourne. Coming from a californian living in Melb with very few choices for my Mexican fix, Radio Mexico was a great recent discovery. Authentic, western mexico dishes, fresh, not heavy with beans. The owners did a great job of capturing the Mexican flare with the decor, the margaritas are great, too. The seating is tight, and this place is hoppin, even as early as 6pm, rightfully so. See Mamacita's and New Market, or even trippy taco for some other good mexican. read more

One niggle I ordered nachos and dip as a starter and when finished the waitress asked if I'd like a more nachos to finish the dip, I got charged $5 for these, was under the impression they were complementary! My first time visiting here also happened to be the first time I met my boyfriend's mother, so unfortunately no pics, but each meal was well presented. I enjoyed what I ordered - I wasn't super hungry so I went with the Baja tacos (fish tacos - also major points when you pronounce it correctly. The waiter will praise you over and over when you get it right) and I also ordered the pork tacos as they were a menu favourite. Mine came out first, and I'm not one to start eating until everyone else's food has arrived, but when it came to me, it didn't seem that hot. I waited patiently, and alas, about 5 mins later, a waiter arrives with... our drinks. Everyone at this stage is encouraging me to eat, but I'm still extremely set on eating when all meals have arrived. 10 mins later, the other meals arrive, and I start eating. The pork taco (which was only JUST warm when it arrived) was unsurprisingly cold when I ate it, and a little on the dry side. The fish tacos were slightly better in my opinion. My boyfriend ordered the Sunday roast I believe it was called, and that was quite nice, with rice on the side, and his mother really enjoyed the quesadillas. Overall, it was okay - I feel like it's normally better due to friends recommendations and reviews, so maybe I'll have to give it another go, but still quite annoyed that they would serve us so far apart. It's pretty much restaurant 101 that everyone would want to eat together rather than awkwardly talking through mouthfuls of food. Oh well, hopefully they'll do bette next time. read more

This was ok. Fancy expensive mexican good that wasn't hot (came out lukewarm). Good atmosphere. Decent food. But just "ok" for us.

We came across Radio Mexico through Yelp (so thank you to the previous reviewers) and we were so impressed we had to write a review as well. Our main waitress was brilliant, made some great recommendations and as she suggested after Macho Nachos and wings between 4 of us, and then a main each we all left the restaurant full and satisfied. Will defiantly be recommending it to friends. A+ read more

3.5 stars to be clear, this isn't a particularly authentic mexican joint, more like an oz interpretation of mexican food. overall: not great, but not bad. the space itself and the crowd is very nice, staff is friendly. the corn is full of buttery goodness. tacos are OK only, especially at $6 a pop. was assured by my dining companion that some of the other stuff is better (e.g. the pork belly, which was sold out by the time we arrived). cocktails were overpriced and underwhelming, with the exception of the margarita i had, which was pretty good. read more
