Eric saved the day!! I took an electronic device in (rackmount synthesizer), which I'd been trying unsuccessfully to install two SIMM boards into and just having no luck. I took the device in to Coast Electronics with the two SIMM boards in hand, and Eric knew immediately and exactly how to install them. The other great thing is that he didn't charge a fortune to do this, which I was very grateful for. If you need anything repaired or worked on, Eric is your man. Eric and his team are a fantastic resource in this community. They can fix electronics and find solutions for just about anything that plugs in, has a battery, a small motor, etc. They have helped me with phone, ipad, stereo, DVD, TV connections, fixed an old remote, a toy, little lights in old systems that I thought would never work again. A wire came loose in an adapter for my record player. I bought it at a Radio Shack 25 years ago and went in for a new one. Within ten minutes, Eric had saudered the wire back on stronger than it ever was and the adapter works like new. Plus, their prices are great and if they don't have it, they will get it. Use them! I had a problem with my Motorola APX7000XE (a public safety handheld radio) which required me to order and solder on a new flex cable. I took everything apart as far as I could and brought it to Eric. Since the store wasn't busy when I went in, he repaired it right in front of me and chatted the whole time while doing so. There are not a lot of Radioshack shops in business these days. So while in San Luis Obispo when I spotted this one after shopping at the CVS, I had to drop in. The shop is in the Laguna Village Shopping Center. I was looking for a portable handheld analog transistor AMFM radio which is hard to find beyond the big A online retailer. As I walked in, the clerks greeted me. The inventory lining the shelves brought back memories of the bygone days. I grew up with a father that fixed things... oh no, he dared not throw an item away without a hearty attempt to fix it. Stuff like radios, fans, toasters, etc. We would get our supplies at the RadioShack. There was a staff person knowledgeable about various current makes of transistor portable radios and the difference between them. Refreshing. Great personable customer service. read more

I opened up a handheld high powered spotlight. And.... it turned out I opened up a "can of worms". It was a complicated mess of wires and connections. Luckily I took pictures as I pulled it apart. Called Radio Shack & got the manager. Told him of my dilemma & he said "no problem, bring it all in". Loaded it all up in a shoe box and headed for The Shack. Long story short, they replaced the lead acid rechargeable battery & put it all back together! Props to the manager & his right hand man, Chad! In this age of integrated circuits and non-user servicable electronics, it was a pleasant surprise that not only was this place conveniently located (for the Central Coast), but that the staff was fairly knowledgable, and able to direct me to what I needed...which they had in stock. I visited this store because I needed a simple composite to mini-jack converter. Of course, the Shack had it! They have all the things you need to make a connection from whatever to whatever. Also met Eric who is what all retail stores should have for a representative. Super friendly and knowledgeable! Instead of tossing a few things into the garbage that have not been working properly, I decided to try to do double-duty by both supporting a local business and keeping e-waste out of the dump. I am not disappointed that I made this decision. I brought in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, and a stereo subwoofer all for diagnosis. I know the deposit of $25 a piece sounds like a big investment, but it is reasonable, especially considering the level of customer service the Coast team provided. One employee helped me get the heavy subwoofer from my car (my hands were full of kids instead), and each time I spoke with someone from their team on the phone, there was transparency about any issues and solutions for each piece. In fact, the whole team was really upfront about the potential of not being able to fix certain pieces due to lack of information provided by the manufacturer. Overall, I would recommend Coast Electronics to anyone who asks! read more

The employee and manager helped me find the exact cord I was looking for (thunderbolt 2 to thunderbolt 3) which every other store around was out of. (Best Buy didn't even carry this!) They were also very friendly and helped calm me down because I was very stressed and needed this cord ASAP. Desperate to find specific antenna adaptors for my ham radio, I searched online for local electronic part stores in my area, which is the Santa Ynez Valley on the Central Coast. The only other store in Santa Barbara Electronics which is not stocked very well as far as ham radio parts. I think it's important to mention that when I called Coast Electronics, the sales person was personable, friendly and extremely helpful. My questions were all answered and I learned a lot from the salesman. Luckily, a friend of mine gave me what I needed but my future purchases will be with Coast Electronics even though it's an hour drive from our home. read more

Wow! What an amazing experience we had with this business. I called to set up an appointment for someone to come to our home and reset our home theater system as a Christmas gift for my husband. I was told the person I needed was Eric Vanderlip, but that I must make the appointment directly with him. Because of my schedule, it took a few phone calls before I could speak with him. Each time I called, the person I spoke with was helpful and pleasant. My husband and I are thrilled with the work that Eric did for us. Not only did he arrive promptly as arranged,was pleasant and knowledgeable, he did not leave us feeling silly for our lack of electronics knowledge. After accessing our situation, making some changes, and teaching us how to better utilize our system he determined that we would need some supplies to complete the job and made a follow up appointment. He again arrived at the arranged time. He not only completed the job on our home theater system, he taught us how to use our smart TV more effectively and fixed our door bell that hasn't worked for the past 3 years! We have paid 2 other people to work on this system over the past 4 or 5 years with disappointing results. Eric and Coast Electronics knocked it out of the park for us. Needed a wire extension done for an AC adaptor. They were very friendly and got it done in 15 minutes. Great service and a good price.

Would not recommend this place due to inconsistent return policy. I purchased a 2015 MacBook Pro charger(MagSafe 2) for $80 + tax. I called ahead of time to verify the return policy. The employee told me I can return within two weeks. Before I purchased it in the store, he reassured me that I can return it within two weeks. I go to return this charger and a different employee tells me that "we cannot return apple products." Would've never purchased an $80+ charger if I knew. To be fair, he told me that I can come back later to speak to his manager but I was unable to make it because it's such a busy time of the year. Now I've gone back home to the Bay Area for a week or so to attend my sisters college graduation and it's past the two week window. Unfortunately got misled to spending over $80 here. Not sure if their employees need to be relearn their policy or what but definitely do not come here if you ever consider returning a product to them. Also this same charger costs $20 on Amazon but I needed it urgently for finals. Always check online first if you're not in rush. read more
