I absolutely HATE rodents specifically rats and mice. My mother and I have never seen any in our 6 years of living here but out of no where bunches of them are coming into our home, not to mention when i called maintenance about the problem I don't think they took me seriously. I have also had this problem ever since I moved here when my toilet gets super clogged every two months and I had to learn how to unclog it myself because the maintenance people obviously weren't doing a good job.

None of the apts have central a/c or the ability to control the room temperature (heat is base board and is either on or off, no temperature settings.) I was without heat for 4 days in March of this year when temperatures dipped into the teens, so I did not pay rent for 4 days, and management still insists I owe it to them (the PA state law says I don't.) They were supposed to do a massive heating system overhaul in March 2020 but instead bought another property. Every and any bit of work they do is done as cheaply as possible. Our front doors stick because they painted right over the old paint without scraping or sanding. Contractors typically show up in unmarked white vans, and I once called the police because there was a young boy in the hallways ripping out old, dirty carpet from the stairwells without any protective clothing or filtered mask. The massive pot hole in the back parking lot was filled only with sand. The management decided to contract with Comcast, so you have no choice but to use Comcast for internet. My bill went from $40 to $60 to $100 in 2 years, and you have no leverage because they know it's the only service you can get. Walls are thin, you can hear everything in the hallways and your neighbors going to the bathroom and flushing the toilet. My bedroom window doesn't close all the way because it wasn't installed properly, the fan in the bathroom vents into the ceiling (black mold growing around it,) and they even turned down the water pressure after the start or Covid to keep the water bill down! They don't hire a lifeguard for the pool, and we don't know who does the chlorine checks, so few people swim it out of health concerns. Management is greedy, rude, and there have been at least 4 different assistant property managers since I moved in. You can rent a nicer place for less money in Media. The only redeeming quality is Shaun the maintenance guy, but once he's gone, you'll be out of luck. Go elsewhere for nearly $1,700/mo.

The building itself looks like it was built in the 70s and they've been making upgrades to the individual apartments but because the foundation is so old and needs a face lift itself, it takes away from the "upgraded apartments." The apartments start at a minimum $2,000. Even for the old rinky dink 1997 brown cabinets. Yes they were a thing the year that I was born but it's really time for PA to stop selling outdated apartments at an overpriced rate and just do away with them. Maybe it's because I'm from NY where yeah you're paying an arm and a leg for rent but no one would dare sell you an apartment that was last renovated the year that I was born. The amenities are awesome but the price for these apartments are outrageous. You could get a more modern, luxurious apartment with the same amenities, if not better at the KOP Town Center. If you're looking for a luxury apartment with luxury amenities than maybe look at the Town Center. If you don't mind paying 2,400 for an overpriced "upgraded" apartment that still feels old, then this is your place to be. They do have great amenities and a door man but for the price that you're paying, you're better off going to The Ave and Omnia in the KOP town center

The lawn crew are loud & take all day to get the mowing done, which is very frustrating when you work from home & need the area to be quiet. They will also spray harmful pesticide & mulch without giving you any proper notice if you have children or dogs. Oh and dogs? It's an $80 fee on top of your over priced rent. After five years, my kids and I are moving out of Eland Downe (we're relocating away from the…read morearea). Our time here has been extremely happy, virtually headache-free, and we're all somewhat sad to leave our cozy home. A lot of people ask me about living here, so I sort of feel like the unofficial ambassador for the place. Here's what we have loved: 1. The layout of our house was excellent. We had a three bedroom, 2.5 bath model with an unfinished basement. The rooms were surprisingly spacious -- honestly, that may be the biggest kitchen I'll ever have. The townhomes are much bigger than they look. 2. The maintenance staff kicks butt. Seriously. I rarely had to wait more than a day for them to handle a repair. They're all extremely nice guys -- many of whom have worked at Eland Downe for years -- and I never had a problem with them being in my home when I wasn't there. I believe the entire staff lives on-site as well -- so I guess that's an extra incentive to take pride in their work. The maintenance manager knows EVERYONE and has always been great to answer questions for me, even if he's just out walking his dog in the evening. 3. The office staff is "human." My rent was a day late after a mondo snow storm and they were so nice about it and didn't hit me with a late fee. 4. The indoor pool is a really great feature. It's heated. We swam all winter. (There's also a fitness center in the same building.) 5. The landscaping always looks nice. You can tell they really invest in this. I always felt good about having people over because the community was so well-kept. They even weed your front flower beds and put down mulch. 6. On a similar note, I'm a single mom. Between the maintenance and ground crew, it's been really nice not having to worry about taking care of repairs and yard work. There was a lot of peace of mind with that. 7. I always felt very safe. I've left bikes out front by accident and they were still there in the morning. I've left my car windows open all night and nothing was disturbed. (Not recommending you do this, just saying you don't have to feel like people are targeting your stuff.) 8. We've always had great neighbors! Once we got to know them a little bit, I felt perfectly comfortable asking them to pick up packages off our porch if we were away. (Tip: Be friendly. Introduce yourself. Make an effort.) 9. It's a kid-friendly neighborhood. Kids ride their bikes, use the playground, play in the open areas and the parking lots. It was a nice play to raise kids. At this point, they're upgrading a bunch of units. I peeked in the one next door to me and WOW. It looks like a completely different place -- granite countertops, stainless appliances, wood floors. They look amazing. However, some of the units are not getting upgraded so they can continue to offer townhomes at a variety of price points. You can get anything from a 2 BR with an unfinished basement to a 3 BR with a finished basement. There's more variation in unit size than I originally thought. I should also mention that the place was spotless when we moved in. Spot. Less. I felt really comfortable just putting my dishes right into the cabinets. Obviously, I highly recommend this place. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Our immediate neighbors have really made our time here enjoyable. In a condo community, they really make a difference. For whatever we need, both were/are very responsive and helpful. If we call with an issue, we have always gotten a response within 24 hours. The guys who do the work around the complex are helpful and polite. Don't judge the units by the outside. Yes, they look like 70's ski resorts but you have to look past that because the interiors are what make the condos. Some sort of complex upkeep happens every year - painting, repaving, updating lighting, pool, etc. If you're interested in getting involved with other residents, they offer multiple activities throughout the year to connect with neighbors. You make of it what you want. If you're considering living in Summit House, it gets my recommendation.

The condos' exteriors are old looking and a lot of them are in need of renovation. The REAL problem with Summit House is Sherri, the office manager. She is single handledly running the community into the ground. She will NEVER fulfil a request. She gets snippy anytime you report a problem. Nothing is ever the association's fault. You will get charged for things that are not even referenced in the by-laws and your HOA will go up exponentially each year. It's something around 250/mth now I believe which is a joke bc they'll NEVER help you. I complained about bees once and was told maintenance came out with a tennis racket, swatted some and left their carcasses on the ground to scare away their bee friends. Can't make this stuff up. Once I was plowed into my parking spot by a snow plow. I couldn't get out for days. I had to rent a car. When I complained to Sherry I was told it was my fault for not parking in my car port. Not that it matters but the reason I wasn't parking in the car port - that I paid for - was that the door to the storage cabinet in the front was falling off the hinges and if it HAD fallen it would've fallen onto my car. Upon relaying this information, Sherry told me that I would be forced to give up my carport if I didn't use it. Even tho I PURCHASED the condo and the port was referenced and included in my closing docs. The final straw for me was when my neighbors deck began to leak from above and into my ceiling. As far as I was informed, Summit House takes care of the exterior/outside of the walls and my responsibility was within. When the neigh it's deck leaked it caused water damage into my bathroom. The whole ceiling needed to be ripped out. When I called to report the issue to Sherri I was told that it wasn't Summit House's responsibility. No reason given, of course, as this is actually NOT the law. But nonetheless, Sherri refused to do the right/legal thing and rather than deal with the hassle of a lawsuit, we paid for it ourselves. If I had it to do over again, I would run fast and far from Summit House and Sherri. There is no reason to have to deal with such aggregation and expense simply to live in a home you are paying for.

A pound me moving in the apartment it still needed additional work and I really wasn't all that happy. The service manager at the time was absolutely amazing (Marquis) he came for one thing and I was telling him about the other problems and in one day he fixed everything and even returned the next day to follow up. Little did I know that some minor maintenance would be the least of my worries. I had been living in the apartment short of two or three months, when the real problem came. After a long day of work I'm watching a movie and my boyfriend see's a mouse run across the room. I'm immediately upset and frightened at this point. I Have Never Been More Scared In My Life!!!! So, first thing the next morning I call the front office and they just acted like they were in disbelief and they would take care of the problem. Well......I can whole heartedly say it's been months and I'm still having the same problem. I have spoken with the office manager Megan and Regional Manager Karen at Scully company. They have since admitted to the older buildings as being infested with mice due to the construction around the apartments. Plus further inspection of the apartment, they have hidden holes where the pipes run for the heating, under the bathroom sink, behind the stove, etc. So it's like the mice can just go from apartment to apartment (because you can hear them all in the walls and kitchen area). I have spoken with several other tenants in the buildings and they have seen mice in their apartments. When I ask for a resolution they offered me to move on a sister property (which seemed like the simplest resolution but also was a hassle, seeing as they said everything would transfer over but when I called their property manager she said you have to go through the whole process of applying over again). So not only do I have to look for another place, I have to go through the process again, and as a healthcare worker find time to afford to move all my items somehow into another place. I'm very disgusted with management and Scully at how they are handling the situation. Mind you I haven't heard from the office in two months now, No follow up, No checking in, No Nothing!!! I want to say that the maintenance men have been absolutely AMAZING!! They have tried to make me feel as comfortable as someone in this situation can feel and they come out right away everytime I call. Christina in Dekalb office has tried to be as helpful as possible. But it's just not enough NO ONE should have to live like this. So this is just a FAIR WARNING to future residents you have been advise to LOOK else where!!!!!
